I will give the short version of my review first, and then for those who want the play-by-play, they can go on to read the long version. Short Version: If you have property in Carteret County and want a beautiful custom home built to your specs at a fair price, finished early, and managed by an gifted and experienced General Contractor and Carpenter, Blue Green Construction is your only choice. We couldn’t be happier with our home. Long Version: My wife and I dreamed of a waterfront home. In 2018, we bought a plot on the North River in Carteret County, hoping to build someday. We cleared the land, installed riprap to prevent erosion, and saved for construction while seeking builders. We contacted many local builders and modular home firms, but were disheartened. Some were dismissive outright (looking at you, Brimco), and others were just didn't seem motivated to build. Modular homes didn’t match our vision, and customizing them raised costs and timelines to levels similar to stick-built homes. My wife finaly found Blue Green Construction in Morehead City online. Bruce, the owner, called back in 20 minutes, offering to meet us on a Saturday despite our three-hour distance. In May 2024, we met Peter, their project manager, who showed us a stunning nearby build. At our plot, we discussed design and budget. When I asked if they could build our dream home in our price range, Peter said, “Yes, I think we can.” Thus began our partnership. In June 2024, we started design with Peter. From conversatiosn and just rough sketches, he created plans via email, masterfully nailing our vision by the fourth draft in three weeks. His estimate by late June fit our budget. Loan underwriting took 60 days (lender’s timeline), while Blue Green worked on permits, delayed by Carteret County Health Department’s slow 60-day process—be warned. Once approved on October 1, 2024, Blue Green got county authorization in a week. On October 15, 2024, they broke ground, targeting June 1, 2025. They hit milestones weekly: pilings, framing, roofing, drywall. And they coordinated well with our lender, earning praise. By Christmas 2024, the house was framed; by January 2025, roofing was done, and drywall began. Neighbors noted the crew’s 10–12-hour days, weekend work, and politeness. Peter managed the project expertly, calling my wife two to three times weekly with updates, photos, and next steps. He was always accessible, honest, and offered expert advice. We visited monthly, seeing great progress. By April 2025, the house was nearly done, within budget except for a pricier septic system mandated by the Health Department. By May 1, 2025, finishing touches remained. On Memorial Day weekend 2025, we did our final walk-through with Peter, moving in two weeks early. The house is stunning, with top-notch craftsmanship. Blue Green’s process was a pleasure. For a custom home in Carteret County, Blue Green should be the first people you call.—you won’t be disappointed.

HIGHLY recommend Bruce and his team!! We hired Bruce to totally gut our kitchen & laundry/half bathroom. From the start-he was thorough, knowledgeable and honest! Our project started on the date promised & finished on time! Because we were in Raleigh during the remodel, he was great at keeping me updated with texts & pictures! We used his wife, Ellen (The Cabinet Lady) for our cabinets & countertops and are thrilled with the results! She was great to work with as well! I cannot say enough, so happy with the results!!

We hired Blue green to build our house. First we were amazed with comments our neighbors had about the crew. We never heard a bad review about the crew. Congratulations Pete and your crew. We had a fantastic experience with Bruce and the guys at Blue Green Construction! It's so hard to find contractors that do what they say they'll do and do it in a timely way, but these folks are exactly that. We did a bunch of work to our 15 year-old beach house, the biggest part of it being all 5 bathrooms gutted and redone. The end product was absolutely beautiful! I'm not saying that there weren't a couple surprises along the way that caused a few delays (there always are in renovations), but the project was wrapped up by the time they estimated from the start and every concern was ironed out creatively AND economically. By the end of the project, we came to trust these guys like they were family. Best contractor we've ever worked with!

We chose Blue Green over 2 other builders, when we decided to move forward with a demolition and new construction of our beach house. We had vague ideas on some styles and details, bit no real floor plans in place. Peter and Bruce coached is through the floor planning and home design process, and layout on our lot. We left many design details up to them as we had little experience in new construction. The results are excellent and meet or exceed all of our wishes. In cases where I had special requirements, these were met. Any compromises were dealt with fairly, and equitably. They communicated well, and the fit and finish are excellent. Great experience for us.

In January 2021 tragedy struck our family. We were already a large family in a small home. The idea of adding another person was not ideal. We looked at a home to buy; that would better suite our needs. However, our offered was declined. We decided to remodel and do an addition to our current home. While living in it. I made several calls to other companies and even had one who came out to my home twice then when it came time for the contract the terms changed. Burse and Peter came out to our home in February 2021 and did a Compleat walk thru on our first meeting. I showed them a drawing nothing to scale. With in two days, I had plans and 2 estimates from Bruse. The estimate was not cheap. This company does quality work so you're going to pay for it. We needed this project started quickly. They started demo in March 2021. We made request with some of the demo supplies, and they were respected. a few mishaps happed along the way, and they were corrected immediately. All forms of communication where answered no matter time, day or even a holiday. We were consulted every part of the way; often it was more than I could handle so they were quick to make a suggestion. they accommodated last minuet changes with no issues. They were easy to work with, their crews and even the sub-contractors they had come in cleaned up at the end of every day. No messes or trash left around. The final outcome is nicer and fancier than I could have imagine. Our project was completed in November of 2022. We added approximately 1400 square feet. Included was kitchen, apartment (kitchen et with handicap full bathroom), large office and master suite. TIPS take it or leave it: some things we learned: 1. What I thought in the beginning was the pros to doing a remold verses just moving and buying a new howe. WOW was I wrong. Don't try and live in the home during a major renovation. You end up packing all your stuff up anyway. 2. Anything that looks like trash will be thrown away. This group keeps a tidy construction site. 3. Don't tell your contractor who to subcontract with. They have been doing this a long time; take their advice. 4. I like to reuse and recycle this does not make a job easy for your contractor. if you're going to remodel then REMODLE. From beginning to end of our project, the entire Blue Green staff was efficient, effective and professional. Bruce, Peter, the entire Blue Green staff and all subcontractors were polite and attentive to our requests, Their attention to detail and constant communication made the process pleasant and stress free. They seamlessly adjusted to any change we requested during the project. The project was completed within the agreed upon timeline. We are extremely happy with the completed project and would highly recommend Blue Green Construction.

The simplest description of our experience with Blue Green is, “A very positive experience—Blue Green Construction delivered a beautiful product within the timeframe and budget we agreed upon.” But, of course, the experience of a major home renovation—one that required moving our family out of the home for several months—is more complex than end product, timeframe and budget. Most importantly, Bruce and his entire team brought integrity and transparency to the process that built a valuable level of trust. Every individual who worked on our project, including subcontracted partners, was trustworthy and professional. As a result, we were able to collaboratively work through any challenges that arose during the project. The result is a highly functional and beautiful home.

From our first initial consultation to the completion of the project you guided us through the intricacies of renovation our home. In every step of the way you listened carefully to our ideas, needs, and concerns with professionalism. It was not an easy process melding the older portions of our house with the new portions, but you did a great job and it is a perfect fit and we love it! We especially want to thank you, your staff, and the subcontractors for their attention and concerns to our needs. It is not easy to live in a house when it is being renovated but every single employee and sub was considerate, friendly, skilled, and most importantly, listened. We are enjoying our house and want to thank you for making it our home!

Bruce Brotzman and Peter Brotzman of Blue Green construction are doing a fantastic job building our home at Deer Island Harbor in Swansboro. Bruce and his crew are highly skilled and professional. His crew replaced the siding and windows throughout our house and shed and provided timely, high quality work with close attention to detail.
