Wilkinson Preservation

We had a good first impression of Wilkinson. The idea was they would do general maintenance on our home and be a sort of "concierge" when we needed more specialized repairs done that they couldn't do in-house, they would facilitate for a fee. And we had a lot of flexibility in choosing what they would fix and what they would not fix. In their initial visit, they took care of a bunch of stuff, and we were pleased with the results. Harder stuff, unfortunately, was far more problematic. While we liked that they could take care of things while we were at work, and that they coordinated things with contractors, our project manager was very unresponsive, often going weeks without followup. On a range of issues, we ended up needing to micromanage more than if we'd been doing all of the calling and facilitating ourselves, and things took much longer than necessary. We still like the idea of the service, and when we did accomplish things we were happy with the results. But the responsiveness just wasn't where we wanted it, at least for the particular project manager we had. Something else to watch for -- Bids from contractors they solicited for work were very high, and while we were happy to pay Wilkinson's fees, we weren't happy to also pay above-market for work and then pay their fee on top of that. Because, by default, they charge a percentage, they are potentially incentivized to solicit more expensive bids. They are pretty flexible, though, so you may be able to negotiate hourly rates instead. Overall, recommended for general maintenance, but not as a concierge service. Hiring them for a single, more-focused project might be fine.

These guys are top notch - 100% A+. At our home in Atherton, they have been involved with tile work, marble polishing, fire place restoration, dry rot repair, rodent proofing, sealing, electrical repairs, appliance repairs, painting, and all kinds of miscellaneous maintenance items that never seem to get done. They did a complete home inspection and then very professionally reported everything they found. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They are THE BEST!

Wilkinson did our remodel back in 2008 and we hired them again when they created Wilkinson Preservation. They are life savers! We've had a few emergencies over the years (gas leaks), and some just urgent issues (hot water heater not working, broken garage door) that they've helped solve nearly immediately. They are customer-service focused, knowledgeable, skilled, congenial, and all around terrific! I highly recommend their team. We've primarily worked with the same 2 staff people so I've even had them come to my house when I'm not able to be home. They're interested in the long-term relationship so they do an excellent job.

Hiring Wilkinson Preservation is the best investment in my home that I could have made. My first appointment was for a full inspection of my house that resulted in a punch list of repairs and projects. I got to choose which items would be addressed and when. That helps with my budget. Quarterly inspections tackle seasonal maintenance so I don't end up with emergency repairs. When something does come up, a quick call to my team, Kyle and Erick, takes care of it. One of the nicest features is that I have these same great guys each time. They know me and they know my home.
