Caleb Johnson and his team have been an absolute pleasure to work with. My wife and I approached them with a strict budget and timeline, and they went above and beyond with communication, deliverables, and service at every step of the way. Their design style is clean, concise, and always conceptually sound. I needed to have a code analysis for a new coffee-shop in Portland, ME, for that purpose this February I contacted Caleb Johnson Architects and Builders. During our phone conversation their director of Business Development, Shannon managed to give me a quick estimation of the costs, she also sent me the email explaining all the possible costs of work. My project started and finished very clear in pricing, not exceeding my budget. For the code analysis itself I was working with Patrick who was very prompt in his work and professional. For completing the analysis he was dealing with City of Portland's authorities to ensure that every single detail of the plan would be approved. I was very satisfied with the level of service of this company, will definitely call them again for my next need. Yulia

I explained I wanted to stay with in a certain build budget. I was given a design that was double the budget. A house that might give Caleb and team bragging rights for a magazine article, etc. But not within the scope of the budget I set forth at the onset. If you don't know what your doing, what to spend $300 to $450 a sq foot to build something high end (with no reason to spend that kind of money as you will never recoup it on resale & can get the same look for under $250 a sq ft.) then yes Caleb and team will be fine.

I had always done my own house designs but in this case I had designed a house on an island in Maine and felt there was a disconnect between my design and the area. After researching on Houzz I discovered Caleb Johnson and contacted him. I loved his clean design ideas. It was very late in the process. Caleb came out to the site and immediately knew what to do. I was stunned at his quick grasp of the situation. He not only knew what "look" was needed on the site but opened up the floor plan. He knew exactly the right thing to do even though he had to work within the footprint of the already designed house. Although I had only asked for minimal input his attitude was always helpful and happy to see me. His input came in under estimated cost. I am forever indebted to him and his staff for their work on my project and probably will be needing his advice as the project progresses.

We hired Caleb at the recommendation of our realtor when we purchased land in Biddeford and he did a wonderful job with a classic, yet contemporary barn that we wanted to build that is solar heated. He and his team designed and built a truly wonderful home for us on the inland side of the pool with plenty of constraints (water restrictions, zoning hearings, very big ideas with not so big a budget, etc). The barn turned out wonderfully and our family loves to come to up Biddeford as often as we can (I think that Caleb still has pictures on his website). A couple years later, we then hired Caleb to do a completely different project in Massachusetts- desiging an addition to a 1888 colonial home that we purchased when we had to move out of the city. Our place in Massachusetts was designed by a "locally famous" architect, but we needed the extra space (and a garage) and didn't want to ruin the asthetic or flow that we bought the house for. Caleb and Cat were happy to come down to Boston and work on site as needed. Needless to say that the addition fits right in and we get all sorts of compliments that many wouldn't have even known that it was an addition, if not told. In any case, Caleb and company have done a wonderful job on two projects for us with very diverse requirements. They are very professional, great listeners, do an excellent job adapting to different requirements and styles, manage well to a budget, and are good people to work with. I would definitely recommend them for any projects in Maine or other parts of New England.

After inte rviewing several architects for the renovation of my beach cottage, I found Caleb Johnson to be the most forthright, resourceful and honest about my dreams for a redo. We had DEP regs to deal with and I had budget constraints. Together we designed a renewed cottage that I am so proud of, thanks to Caleb. He incorporated some of the old features into new spaces and did things that I could not have imagined like vaulting a ceiling. It opened up such a big space and gave my cottage such spaciousness. He stayed within budget and completed the project a bit ahead of schedule. He was on site every day and when I arrived unexpectedly his master carpenter always stopped and showed me the latest progress. His team is on the same page. I recommend Caleb Johnson Architects & Builders to anyone who wants or needs to get a job done perfectly. I have never done business with a more honest, aboveboard, fair-and-square person.

When I was looking for an architect firm, it was a bit overwhelming. Then my brother gave me a magazine he had picked up at the airport in Portland. It featured some Maine Architects and one in particular had caught his eye, one that would not dismiss a small project and had lots of experience working around water. My next question was....could I get this in top notch Biddeford Architect to consider a very small and complicated project 3 hours away in Weld Maine. One phone call to this enthusiastic designer and that was that. He not only knew where Weld was, his children when to a camp there and he was delighted to come up and meet with me. He and his associate Cat, visited, planned and listened to the dream my daughters and I wanted to create. We now call it our 50 foot slice of heaven! The best part of the whole process was working with Caleb Johnson Architects. No idea is silly, they listen and they make it happen. My space constraints were tight and they worked around all the issues to design our dream camp, a place our family will treasure and use for many years to come. I could not be happier with their work and for keeping my daughters involved with the process, it was a real family project.

We are in the design stage of building our retirement home. Caleb Johnson and his Team took a very restrictive and tight square footage lot and created our dream house. We were so excited! Next came the local Planning Board, state agencies, permits, more permits, more restrictions etc and we were so discouraged. But Caleb, Josh and Michael never stopped and have kept our dream alive with their experience, vision and professional contacts and resources. Demolition is next and we look forward to continuing the journey with Caleb Johnson Architects and Builders.
