RTK provided most of the tile during construction of our Santa Barbara style home. From the minute we walked into the studio Richard took us under his wing and gave us a complete education about styling, coloring and grouping of tiles. Throughout each project we were offered guidance and inspirational ideas. The final product exceeded our expectations. Now that the house is complete we can honestly say that the tile provided by RTK elevates the entire feel and look of our home. It is tile at its absolute finest. For many years RTK Studios has produced the highest quality, most authenitc tiles, tile murals and tile pottery in the tradition of Malibu Pottery and the Golden Age of California tile making. If you have a California Spanish home or want to reproduce one, they are the tile makes to use. They have excellent design services, production abilties and product quality. Greatly appreciated, and perhaps, unique, is the fact that they stock (yes, that's right, stock) many of their standard colors and some designs, which means you can have the product in a matter of days rather than waiting weeks for fabrication. This has proven a life saver for me. Still, if you have the time, they can produce the most beautiful custom tiles to your design. Yes, worth the price. The quality difference is palpable.

rtk tiles are duplicates of the original Malibu and catalina tiles of the 1920's, that were produced in California. However, if you compare the quality of the colors and glazes, hands down rtk tiles are far superior.I used their tiles in a hotel I built and still own here in santa Barbara in 2000. We just completed another hotel here in Santa Barbara and used their work in it also. I cannot recommend them highly enough. If you use their work you will not be sorry, very high integrity people. . While reaserching tile companies for our 1920's Spanish Revival house in the late 1990's my wife and I were referred to RTK studios at a tour of the Adamson House in Malibu. After meeting with Richard Keit and Mary Kennedy we knew that RTK studio was the only tile maker for our job. This has been a labor of love for my wife and I and after 14 years we are still not finished. Our home presented some unique design and installation challenges keeping everything in a 1920's theme. Richard and Mary of RTK Studios are, hands down, magnificent creators and purveyors of brilliant tile designs based on the Malibu and Catalina styles of the 1920s. They utilize the same production technique (cuerda seca) that imparts relief to the surface, thereby achieving a look and feel quite reminiscent of the original tile styles. The many varieties and styles of glazes are stunning. The tiles are incredibly durable and meant to last. We've installed hundreds of these lovely tiles, both interior and exterior, especially in conjunction with plaster and stucco, to complement and transform an already-impressive Mediterranean style architecture into a finely detailed and glorious project. And the bonus is that many of these tiles are already produced and ready to go rather than placing an order to be positioned in a production queue. Their studio in Ojai, California, is itself a wonder to behold and a sweet surprise that awaits those who make the trek to witness their many fine gems of inspired ceramics.
