It is a pleasure for me to submit this letter of support for Steven Scheibe. As the selected artist for our Art In Public Places Program in our school district, Steven has worked with diligence and passionate enthusiasm on “Illuminated Passage” – eleven silk panels now hanging at Liberty Middle School. In all of his work, Steven has demonstrated innovative vision and superb project management skills, providing a range of opportunities for our school with a diverse student population. During his residency in our school district, Steven demonstrated outstanding leadership abilities and conducted himself in a manner that elicited confidence and commitment. His past experiences in public schools have given Steven a special sensitivity to the educational needs of children, parents, and school staff. Through his leadership, Steven established and maintained a positive, industrious environment, motivating our planning team as he attained high levels of achievement and creativity. He used sound judgment when confronted with difficult problems, and was aware of and understood the mood of our district and community by staying in close contact with the principal and central office staff. His calm, direct, and levelheaded manner enabled him to deal effectively with any situation that came to him. Steven is conscientious, thorough, and accurate as he worked through the art making process, developing support resources. He is trustworthy and dependable when soliciting and obtaining district support. He understands the need for accurate and complete records, and handles budget requests promptly and efficiently. He is very dedicated to excellence and is always well prepared because of his willingness to spend extra time and energy on the details of his job. Throughout his varied work in the public and private sector, one constant rings true with Steven. He does all he can to create exciting learning opportunities for students, staff, and the community which I witnessed first-hand when Steven spent an entire day at our recent Art and Technology Fair, sharing his dye-painting silk process through public demonstrations. His content knowledge, enthusiasm, and extraordinary commitment sets him apart as a world-class educator and artist. Steven's major strengths would be his leadership and organizational abilities, his experience and skill in managing multiple projects, his high level of interpersonal skills, and his attractive and positive personality. He demonstrated dedication to personal and professional excellence, and was always prepared and focused on details and results. Steven motivated and inspired those around him to do their best. In all of his work, Steven Scheibe consistently demonstrates the exemplary dedication, commitment, and excellence that make him a joy to work with and a credit to the visual arts profession. Steven consistently shows a passion for the arts and a desire to lead, promote, and strengthen the idea that the arts and education are a collaborative effort, striving to create a community that understands and appreciates all aspects of the arts. His life-long dedication is evident in all aspects of both his personal and professional life. He is a tireless advocate for the Washington State Arts Commission’s Art In Public Places Program, continuing to foster ongoing partnerships with arts organizations, schools, and communities. Steve is a very gifted artist! We have had him do some very unique works using silk and glass, he has captured exactly what we had wanted. He spent a lot of time meeting with us, as well as researching the piece he was creating for us. We feel that these pieces are treasures to us and create a very special environment that is warm and meaningful. We plan to have Steve create a couple more pieces that we are thinking of having done!
