In Jan of this year, I hired him for an Interior Painting, Sheetrock Repair, HVAC DUCT CASING, Luxury Vinyl Floor Installation as a part of my Home remodel project in South Philly. Initially, he was very responsive, took the 50% deposit, and had 2 employees start immediately. However, as the project progressed things started to deteriorate. He kept lowballing other contractor bids to get control of the entire home remodel (basically the stuff above and other minor stuff like sanding priming staircase etc). Then several days in his employees damaged my electrical sockets during sheetrock repair. He refused to take responsibility. I had to hire a licensed electrician through Thumbtack to repair the electrical. Shortly after, his employees started complaining to me that they have not been paid for 10 days straight. To this extent, he made me pay the employees directly telling me he had no money and threatened to stop the project if I did not. He gave me his company's receipt after I paid his employees. After receiving his company receipt I naturally felt protected especially with the Thumbtack guarantee. Unfortunately, at this stage, the project was only 50% complete and I would be down several thousand dollars if I had not complied. After I paid his employees my balance payment his employees complained Mr. Garcia still owed them more money and they quit the project 2 days later citing non-payment for the entire labor charge. He assured me he would complete the project on his own putting all the blame on his employees and that they had messed up another one of his remodels and that this is a common occurrence in the construction world. It did not stop there, a project that was going to take 12-13 days at max ended up taking 8 weeks as Mr. Garcia would only show up 2-3 hours per week at his convenience. Finally, he quit the project prematurely on March 17th and took $750 for a project he never started. I reported the case to Thumbtack and they are still working on getting my money back from Mr. Yoruba Garcia. To date, Thumbtack has agreed to only pay a fraction of the amounts I paid to this guy. Be very careful as his employees do not have any insurance or protection nor do they have any workers compensation. His letterhead does not have a company address only the name of a town and zip code (Sicklerville, NJ). Also, his employees had a different name in the bank Zelle App than they were referred to. A guy called Emmanuel was listed in his bank as BRANDON. To the extent, he called me a scammer on his last day. I have invoices, receipts, pictures with time stamps to prove my claim. Unfortunately, such un-professional pros are allowed to rob hard-work
