Alex was recommended by a friend. I had him give me a quote which was very detailed. He built two workshops and a garage for us and did an outstanding job. Very easy to work with and was always available. He was on the job site often and his subcontractors are very good. If you’re looking for a good contractor, hire Alex.

Alex has done a ton of work for us since 2017--including window trim, interior doors, a complete kitchen remodel, interior paint, a bathroom remodel, plus repaired water damage discovered the day after we bought the house. Anyway, it's a beautiful house now and Alex helped make it that way. He's been flexible, fixed anything that's gone wrong quickly, and been a good communicator. 5 years later, when I call he answers the phone on the 2nd ring with my name, often ending the call with "i'll be over in half an hour". That's a lot when its been impossible the last 2 yrs to get anyone to do anything. We've worked with other places in town--HomCo, Design Center, Central Supply, Cunningham Flooring. They all have great things to say when we mention we're working with Alex. I'm not really much of a review writer, but Alex is the absolute best.

I had four contractors come out to offer a bid on my project. Alex Helwig was one of them. He was also recommended to me by a friend who he had built an entire new house for. He gave me an itemized bid showing costs for everything involved, I agreed with it and I hired AJH Construction for a complete bathroom remodel. It involved taking out the bathtub, the water heater, installing a ceiling fan, some ceiling and parts of walls had to be cut out and replaced, changing out the door to a larger size, replacing all the wood in the window, replacing light fixtures, building shelves in the previous water heater closet, building a walk in shower with custom tile and "aging in place" fixtures and replacing all the floor tile also. Alex did a wonderful job as did his subcontractors Brian for the tile and Patrick for the plumbing. They were all very professional and friendly. I had chosen the tile I wanted and drawn out several plans of what I wanted installed and where. Alex was excellent at communicating with me if there were any question about my plans or explained to me what would work best if something needed tweaking. He stayed in touch with me on a daily basis and always checked with Brian and Patrick on how things were going with the tile and plumbing phases. Alex was easy to work with and listened to any concerns I might have about the project. He didn't balk when I asked him a couple of times, if I paid him extra, and that were outside the scope of the original project, to perform other tasks and he was very reasonable about the cost. Alex was always very prompt. If he said he'd show up at 8 am, you could count on him being there at that time. He kept the work area as neat and picked up as possible and hauled off all the demolition debris. I am very happy with the finished bathroom! When I need any future work done, I would definitely hire AJH Construction again and highly recommend him.

Alex Helwig of AJH Construction recently converted my garage into a bedroom for my elderly mother and built an adjacent two-car garage. Working with him has been a stress-free and pleasurable experience. He was very helpful in the bid phase, making suggestions that ultimately saved us money and improved the appearance of the project. His communication was excellent—he was very responsive, answering questions, whether it be by phone, text, or email, often within minutes, and almost always within an hour or two; he let us know what progress to expect in the coming days. He was always respectful and considerate. He was attentive to every detail and made sure that everything was done right. The project was completed early and on budget, and we were very happy with the finished projects. My Mom loves her new bedroom! Alex is in charge at AJH Construction and he is just terrific!! If you are looking for someone who has excellent integrity, has immense attention to detail and is just a joy to work with, Alex at AJH is your contractor. He remodeled a master bath for us and the whole process was effortless and extremely well done. What I liked a lot was how well Alex kept us informed of what the next steps would be, when sub contractors would arrive and what we could expect. The whole remodel went on schedule and on budget. You just can't do any better than Alex at AJH Construction!!

It has been a wonderful experience over the years to work with Alex Helwig of AJH Construction. Alex is knowledgeable about the many phases of home construction and renovation. We have particularly appreciated his sense of aesthetics in design and creating a cohesive look to our existing home (on renovations). He is timely in getting quality sub contractors to complete their phases of the job. On the renovations where we continued to live in the space, Alex took extra care to leave his equipment and supplies neat and orderly. We have known Alex for years and he was our general contractor for a house addition in 1999, that cost around $50,000. We have employed Alex and recommended Alex to others for projects small and large and he is very reliable. It is without reservation that we recommend Alex for complete home construction, additions, or renovations.

This was the second project that Alex did for us. The first was a bathroom remodel and that project went very well. The second project was a fireplace remodel. Alex did a fantastic job on both projects. He was very precise and on time. I would recommend him highly.

I've worked with several local construction companies in Flagstaff and AJH is by far the best. The AJH contractors and subcontractors are all experts and work together efficiently and effectively to produce a high quality end result. AJH is incredibly helpful, responsive, and has an excellent attention to detail. They completed a major remodel of our kitchen on time and under-budget.

AJH recently completed a bathroom remodel in our 100-year-old house. We were very happy with both the results and the overall construction process. The quality of the work was excellent. They stuck to their bid and finished the project on-time. They were easily able to deal with all of the unknowns associated with old house remodels. The subcontractors were well-chosen and friendly -- and everybody worked well together as a team. We would use them again for future projects and recommend them to others.

We have been working with Alex (AJH Construction) for about 4 years. We cannot say enough good things about the work he has done for us. We are thrilled with the finished product. We have a simple ranch style home originally built in 1963. It was desperately in need of a total facelift. We did not have the funds or time to gut and redo the entire house all at once, so over the course of 4 years Alex transformed it for us room by room. As we started each project the bid was thorough, the design complete and the work professional. He took our vision, listened to our ideas, gave us realistic feedback and turned our dreams into reality. 4 years later we are thrilled with our “new” home. The projects he completed for us (in chronological order) are: *Kitchen remodel-total gut and redesign. New cabinets, counters, floors, recessed lights, appliances, redid electrical. It is now more functional and extremely beautiful. Love it!!! *Living room/dining room/entry- removed popcorn ceiling, redid walls, doors, molding, recessed lights, ceiling fan, beautiful new flooring. *Bedrooms-remove popcorn, redo floors/walls/molding/doors, new lighting and ceiling fan. *Replaced outside siding. *Replaced Outside doors and screen doors *Installed all new windows, energy efficient, warm and beautiful. * Bathrooms - total redo on both bathrooms. Redid plumbing and all fixtures. In one bathroom designed beautiful walkin tiled shower, in the other installed deep soaker tub. Designed custom vanities for both. The house is now complete from top to bottom. We have lived in this home for 30 years. It is our forever home. With Alex’s help and expert work we now have a beautiful redone home for the next 30. We appreciate his willingness to work with us and our budget. His willingness to do it over time little bit by little bit meant we were able to make our dream a reality. I highly recommend AJH Construction for any project. Alex’s attention to detail, professionalism, and follow through are what you look for in your home.

What a great experience this was. Alex was patient and respectful with me from beginning to end. Mine was a small build, only 432 sq ft but I got the attention I needed and work progressed steadily. We had a few setbacks but I was informed promptly and explanations were reasonable. Alex was a pleasure to work with and I even liked most of his subcontractors (even the crabby one had a great team). I recommend AJH without reservation.

Working with Alex was awesome experience as general contractor for any building projects. He oversaw construction of my home from blueprints to final inspection, keeping in touch with me throughout, even when I was out of town. His communications were timely and clear with exception of silly auto-corrections on our smart phones made it even more fun. His crew was punctual and detail-oriented, and he was respectful of my budget (very important) quick to correct any problems, and suggested creative solutions that had not occurred to me.
