Rob completed a gut renovation of our bathroom in our 100 year old home in Hudson. From electrical, to plumbing, and custom woodwork, every aspect of Rob's work was carefully and thoughtfully executed. He was communicative throughout the process, provided recommendations, and helped us navigate all aspects of the renovation. The final product is fantastic, and we are thrilled with the quality of work. Would highly recommend Rob for any home renovations and will definitely be working with him in the future on other upgrades to our home.

BigSpan recently completed some renovations at our secondary home. Rob and Laura really came through for us. At our initial meeting, my wife and I laid out in great detail several projects we needed done. They patiently listened and quickly visualized what we wanted. Rob also gave some creative suggestions and offered to facilitate delivery of materials as our primary home is 2+ hours away. We couldn't be happier with the outcome. If you notice a gap in Big Span's reviews, it's likely because they've been working with us for the past 15 months. A complete renovation of our recently purchased Midcentury Brick ranch & we feel so incredibly lucky to have met them. No exaggerating when I say there isn’t a single part or surface of the home that Big Span hasn’t touched. It was tired & stuck in the 70s/80s, complete with a carpeted kitchen! It needed extensive updating. Not a huge house ,main floor at 1800 sq ft, but we are very detail & quality oriented . Wanting to vault the ceiling & recreate some of the clean, modern lines from its past. Rob and Laura worked their magic, gradually bringing the house back to life & realizing our dream of angles, clean corners, & smooth walls. They removed ,rebuilt &insulated the ceiling , creating an open vault with straight lines and stunning, surfaces. Rebuilding the lounge fireplace to a custom shape and tilework, renovated & painted a second fireplace, restored all the original wood floors & beautifully tiled others. Their tile work is exceptional, with flat ,true surfaces. They created a shower room from scratch & completely redid a full bath, tiling both , including niches, & installing the tub, sinks, shower & door. Replacing every window /door in the house, including three high-quality barn doors & the front entry, painting them along with all walls to our custom palette. New windows were cut out of brick walls to bring in light, & walls were taken down &reinforced to create an open lounge. They crafted sharp-cornered, beautifully smooth walls everywhere, along with quality baseboard installation & duct covers. They built custom cabinetry, floor-to-ceiling bookcases in the lounge &study, rebuilt /framed our custom closets in the bedrooms, installed and hand-painted all new maple kitchen cabinets , built a custom island, installed a cook’s sink& dishwasher, built and installed a hood vent system, and created a pantry/drinks nook. Their attention to detail & genuine intent to create your vision is second to none. They are fully invested, offering good, better & best price solutions to give options that work within your budget. The wealth of experience they bring is immense, no question was left unanswered or out of scope. Generous with their knowledge taking time time to help us understand everything. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with them. I think you will agree, looking at the before & after shots, they did an outstanding job. They work with you step by step in what they are going to do next. Any questions you have, they take their time explaining every detail. They always answer your texts. Can’t say enough good things about the superstar team that is Rob and Laura. They helped us renovate two bathrooms in our very old house and absolutely transformed the space. They stayed true to our creative vision while giving expert advice on how best to execute on budget. On top of being excellent, perfectionist craftspeople, they are extremely professional and easy to communicate with. Two months later and we’re still talking daily about how much we love our new bathrooms! Would recommend in a heartbeat.

Rob and Laura from Big Span are just wonderful and their work is beautiful. Driving up to our house and seeing the new porches makes me smile every time. They are extremely knowledgeable and professional, and also super communicative. They were able to explain every step of the process to a lay person like me to make it easy and understandable. They made me feel safe and taken care of, and treated my home like it was their own. They had a great solution to every issue, and were mindful of costs and timing. Also, it is such a pleasure to work with a husband and wife team! It was a joy having them around and I am looking forward to more projects in the future!

Rob and Laura did a tremendous job renovating our house. They spot on understood what we had in mind and went above and beyond to make it happen. We could not be happier with the results and with the process. They were extremely knowledgeable and advising us all along the way on our options and solutions to problems, like our ceiling which they found out while preparing to paint was not installed properly by previous contractors which thankfully they were able to fix before it fell on our heads. Any other contractor would have painted it without noticing or raising the issue, we’re very glad they did and it’s proof they really do what’s in your best interest. We really appreciated also that they only take one project at a time so they are dedicated to yours for however long it takes, which made them always available for questions and very responsive. All in all we couldn’t recommend them enough and we’ll for sure reach out to them again for future projects in our house.

My partner Autumn and I had a wonderful experience with Rob & Laura. We can’t recommend them enough for any job, large or small. For context, our project was a full gut renovation of an old home that sat abandoned for 10+ years. Think leaking ceilings, no functional systems, and a crumbling foundation. Rob & Laura were the driving force for the final 4 months of our home’s transformation from “very broken” to beautiful and livable. They were supportive of our project in the months leading up, and have continued to stay in touch since they wrapped up. Their to do list included structural changes, door and window swaps, drywall, trim, and full kitchen and bath installs. That’s not to mention a massive list of surprise to do’s that crop up with any old home renovation. From their first visit, Rob’s cool confidence in their ability to bring our home to life never waned. This was a labor of love on our part. Rob & Laura understood and embraced that. They were happy to hear our vision, and translate it into an executable plan. They rocked every detail from necessities like drywall to custom touches like recreating the original curved ceilings and installing handmade tile from floor to ceiling in the primary bathroom. Communication was easy throughout. I was the primary coordinator of other contractors (electric, plumbing etc). We had zero issues with any overlap. Rob & Laura were always flexible, and easy to work with. I also have immense gratitude for their openness to my participation in the process. This is by no means required, but my partner and I strove to jump in wherever we could. This let us reduce the cost on our end, and learn a few things along the way including how to tape drywall and install tile. If you can get on Rob & Laura’s calendar, don’t hesitate!

BigSpan Construction is an absolute gem. I know many friends who only complain about contractors, and we've had the complete opposite experience. Rob and his wife Laura worked on our place all through the spring and summer 2020 and into 2021, when it was very difficult to get materials and sort out deliveries due to COVID. I feel so incredibly lucky to have found them. I originally came across him on Houzz and simply liked a few of his past projects, so I had Rob do a walk through (having done the same with several other contractors) and we just really found Rob to be more patient and calming and a great listener, he really understood what two visual artists want in a simple design. Other contractors tried to up-sell us, etc. My wife and I had purchased our first home, a 100 year old fixer upper in need of extensive work and needed someone who could see our vision and execute a large and complicated renovation. Rob’s prices are extremely fair, and his work ethic is insane. Due to covid he didn't work with a crew, it was just him and his wife and they did essentially a gut reno for us, including kitchen and bathrooms and floors. He is very courteous and understanding and treated our house the way he would treat his own, making decisions out of safety and long term functionality. This was our first home buying experience, so all the hidden issues that come along with buying an old house didn't faze Rob one bit, he understood issues before we could and also had solutions. It was all very pleasant and calming, when it could have been super stressful. There were many times where he completely saved the day, even showing up on a day off to help us with minor problems unrelated to the renovation. He's just a good guy. I could go on and on about Rob and Laura. They are truly good people and I would trust them with anything. They completely understood our aesthetic needs and never suggested fancier (or uglier) fixtures and thoughtfully integrated our ideas. The result is a house that is very natural and clean, with bright white walls and natural woods etc. And a lot of this is due to Rob understanding exactly what we were going for. When dealing with rebuilding our kitchen from the bare studs, we didn't use a kitchen designer or anything custom as we were dealing with a very tight budget. We figured out the design using a lot of Rob's input and he ended up doing a lot of very custom carpentry for us for a LOT less that you'd pay going with one of those companies that designs the whole thing for you. Our house is 100 years old so Rob was incredible about figuring it all out. We are already planning for future projects involving BigSpan, and we cannot recommend them enough! From start to finish you could be in no better hands than Robert Spanburgh and his wife Laura.

Rob & Laura did work on our home to renovate our living room and we could not be happier with the results. Not only were they polite and friendly the whole time, they also made sure to let us know what they were planning to do before every step to make sure we were on the same page. The work was done with impeccably quality, an attention to detail, and our living room has now become the biggest talking point of our home when people come to visit!
