I normally never provide reviews on work I’ve had done or things I buy. It’s just not my style. However, the OUTSTANDING work I had done on my recent house renovation couldn’t have gone unrecognized. I spent months interviewing contractors all over the island and finally it clicked with the team from Building Science LLC. I had been watching various remodeling projects in Kailua for several years and was always impressed with the detail and speed of the Building Science team. Little did I know that this company takes it to the next level where truly the whole house matters. I met Sean McKenzie one afternoon and went over what my wife and I wanted done. Two main things we wanted were 1) We didn’t want the house to look like we had an addition done and 2) the kitchen and great room was the focal point of the house. He took our wish list and got to work on a proposal. With each proposal new ideas and recommendations came up. Again and again, he’d say “let me sharpen my pencil”. After about 2 or 3 weeks the plan was perfect. Once construction started, I realized that this team was legit. Future home remodelers take heed, my biggest mistake and biggest regret is that I didn’t leverage Building Science holistic design to build services. Before I met Sean’s team, I chose to hire a designer and a separate architect. Costing me thousands of extra dollars and time. BIG MISTAKE. Reflecting back Sean could have saved us about 30 to 40 thousand dollars. Daryl was the lead foreman for our project and was an amazing professional keeping things moving in the right direction. The most notable attribute of Daryl was the attention to detail on the entire house. I would come home after work, and he’d still be there. Many days he’d tell me “the door to the back of your lanai wasn’t locking right so I fixed it, or I wanted your outdoor lights to all match, so I replaced your old ones” His attention to detail to the entire house not just the renovation was remarkable. We now have a house that has probably doubled in value, a kitchen that a professional chef would be proud to cook in, a master bedroom that is fit for royalty and a walk-in closet that could be another bedroom. Another notable quality of Building Science is that if they don’t have the expertise to build something, they will find the professionals that can. My wife had a picture of the front door she wanted. They couldn’t find it so they had it custom built based on the picture and a drive through gate that was custom built that could probably stop a tank but looks as elegant as any multi-million-dollar property that you would see and at a fraction of the cost. The professionalism, integrity and detailed craftsmanship of Building Science are just a few adjectives to describe their customer first attitude. My wife and I couldn’t be more pleased with the projects. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND BUILDING SCIENCE FOR ANY OF YOUR HOME REMODELING PROJECT. Thank you, guys, for making our house into a home.

We had the best experience working with Sean and the whole Building Science team! Our project was a fairly big one, a second story built over an older home, and it was very logistically difficult due to our location. The team and their awesome Project Manager, Darryl, kept us updated throughout the whole project and were flexible with any changes we wanted to make. We absolutely love the end result! It’s exactly what we had hoped for and more, and we have received numerous compliments from friends and strangers alike. If we have another construction project in the future we will definitely be reaching back out to Sean and the Building Science team, because their craftsmanship and professionalism is second to none.

Aloha, Building Science has been an absolute JOY to work with. Responsive to our requests, excellent workmanship, on time and on budget. We had an extensive and complicated project with a new second story addition and major renovations of the existing first floor. It was all handled professionally and with care. Highly recommend!!
