We had a disappointing experience with Fresh Start Contracting on a recent renovation project. We hired Fresh Start, despite a higher cost, because of their representations about strong communication and project management, attention to detail, and a high quality of service. However, our experience working with them fell far short of those expectations, ultimately leading to us halting work mid-project and asking them to leave. Given our experience, we cannot recommend working with them.

I cant say enough about this company They did an amazing job. A special shout out to Mark Tuttavilla,the PM,who communicated great,was very attentive to detail,respectful and very knowledgeable. I always felt he had my best interests at heart. Workmanship was also excellent thanks to Alex and Lucas,both of whom also shared Mark's respectfulness and honesty. Neighbors were so pleased with how courteous the team was throughout the months of the work being done in tight quarters on the street. It wasnt nearly as stressful a process as I expected because they handled all the sub- contractors and any issues that came up. The amount of time to completion was reasonable,and project was on budget!

We had a fantastic experience with Fresh Start for a complex renovation in Beacon Hill. Our team was in perfect communication with us throughout, such that we were always updated and therefore involved in decision-making always, as we wished. The team has fantastic EQ throughout, and have deep experience with large, elegant renovations. The attention to quality never lapsed - we never needed to be concerned about shortcuts. As we had learned with four previous renovations and a full house build in the suburbs, timing is always a challenge: yet this was a full-gut, complete renovation of an apartment that had not been renovated in a century - and still, we finished within the range of our estimated completion. We became very fond of the whole team, appreciated prompt punch-listing and support from Ben and the entire company throughout. Our home is exquisite and surpasses what we could have imagined - we are very grateful!

We partnered with Fresh Start for a 3rd floor renovation - blowing off the roof and building a primary suite. They completed the work ahead of schedule, under budget, and with smiles on all of our faces. We have zero complaints about their work - they were professional, focused, brought in the best teams, and did absolutely beautiful work. Everybody on the team - from Ben (the owner), to the project manager and site supervisor, the carpenter and carpenter's assistant - was a pleasure to work with every day. They knew the job, made the family feel comfortable through major rehab, and got rave reviews not only with us but from the neighbors for their attentiveness, professionalism, and ability to keep the disruption of our work to a minimum. I could not recommend them more highly, and will use them again if I have another project down the line.

It can be really hard to find a contractor that you genuinely can trust. We were very impressed with the level of integrity and consideration we were given throughout our project. The scope of our project was absolutely gigantic, so there was definitely challenges that came up. Working with someone we knew would keep their word and work with us to bring the project to completion meant the world to us. We were left with a fully gutted and remodeled home that we absolutely adore!

Fresh Start was amazing from the beginning! I ended up pivoting my project to a completely different part of my house and they were very accommodating. The communication was really impressive throughout the project and I felt completely informed of what was happening and next steps. It was evident from day one they were interested in making sure I was satisfied with the work. I am really happy with the results and hope I can have them do my next project!!

Fresh Start just finished a major renovation of our second (attic) floor in our Jamaica Plain (Boston) condo. They added two big shed dormers which allowed us to have a second living room like flex space, a master bedroom, a much bigger bathroom, and a new laundry room. The space is bright, has a lot of windows and a few skylights. We could not be happier with the end result. Nick was super responsive in the planning stages (which took a long time as we had to go through the full city approval process) and once we finally got started, our project manager, Tom, was also amazing (always communicative, quick to respond to any issues that arose, Professional, and just generally very friendly and helpful). Our site manager, Sam was equally amazing. Fresh Start is so organized and simply lovely to work with. We highly recommend them for big projects like ours and we look forward to working with them again on future projects should we need!

We first hired Fresh Start about 7 years ago to remodel our basement. They did an excellent job. We get so many compliments! (Shout out to our designer as well, Melissa Hammond Design). We went straight to Fresh Start when we wanted to remodel our bathroom last year. It was a big job because we wanted to move the plumbing requiring a soffit in our kitchen. The soffit looks seamless. We also needed to change the windows requiring additional construction inside and out. Their work is top-notch and they are very responsive if any issues arise. I highly recommend working with Fresh Start.
