We feel so lucky to have worked with James (and his team) after our basement flooded. He was diligent in coordinating our basement clean-up to ensure it was safe, found and corrected the source of the water damage and then fully remodeling the space. One word description of James Johnson Construction is Professionalism! We hired James Johnson Construction to do a total remodel of our 50 year old house. As with any such job, many “surprises” occurred during the project. James and his team where up to any of these challenges. His team and hired contractors ALL did a superb job. The quality and finish work they did was totally up to our expectations. In fact, most of the time, they exceeded our expectations. All who visit our house comment on the quality of the work. Additionally, James was ALWAYS available to address our concerns and was, once again, professional in his response. Finally, we now consider James and his staff to be friends! That is a lot to say with our job that took over 9 months! .

We hired James to completely remodel our kitchen. We relied heavily on him to completely rethink the layout and incorporate our ideas. The remodel included total electrical/plumbing/drywall/cabinetry. We also removed/filled a door, and eliminated a closet to add more room in the kitchen. He did a very good job of planning and explaining to use the step by step process and our part in selecting cabinets/hardware/appliances/electrical&plumbing fixture. He did not hesitate to offer alternatives to our ideas in a well thought and reasonable manner. His employees were very particular regarding details and fit and billing was timely and accurate. The finished kitchen was everything we hoped for and more. Craftsmanship was excellent. We have had no problems at all with the remodel one year later.

James and his team were a pleasure to work with. James is honest, timely and easy to converse. He provided a fair bid, assisted with design elements, and treated the project as if he were going to live with it when it was completed. I hired James Johnson in the summer of 2016 to act as General Contractor on the restoration of my 96 year-old Craftsman bungalow near The Historic Old Mission. The project scope was initially focused on interior remodeling and “tune ups” - including building a laundry room in a hall closet, revamping the kitchen cabinetry and stone surfaces, custom cabinetry in the media room, some plumbing upgrades and painting. Additionally, I had used another contractor to replace the foundation who was hired before James came on board and the cooperation between the two was seamless. With James’s assistance and recommendations, we wound up replacing the exterior of the home as the original cedar shingling became obsolete and in need of replacement due to the extensive nature of the foundation work. As a result, the exterior work also required: (i) insulation (including application of a WRB); (ii) highly skilled carpentry as to the shingling replacement and application; and, (iii) rebuilding and restoration of the original trim and porches. James was instrumental in working with the city through the permitting processes as well. This was ultimately a large project in which his project management and design skills were flawless. He showed a respect for the architecture of the home and its original design, while creating a more modern aesthetic. His employees demonstrated excellent carpentry skills and reliability; moreover, James interfaced with and managed the subcontractors in a highly professional manner. Communication and professionalism are hallmarks of James’s management style. He was always available and a delight to work with. I would recommend James without reservation or hesitation. He has a wonderful “bedside manner,” is diligent and dependable, a good listener, and possesses high integrity and a great work ethic. We worked with James and his team on a high-end, modern residential remodel. James was easy to work, professional, and excellent at presenting us with construction solutions that kept our design intent and the client's budget in mind. We were especially impressed by the custom, sleek cabinetry that was built in his local shop; he even went down to LA to hand-pick planks of wood in order to ensure the vertical grain was just right. We are so pleased he was able to take on our design challenges and bring revived life to this home.

As a subcontractor that has been working with James Johnson Construction for some time now, I have been impressed with James' team's organization, attention to detail and quality in their work. They are easy to work with and always bring a great attitude to the jobsite- which is crucial for the general contractor as he is facilitating between homeowner, designer and the subs. I have seen James build in several different styles and highly recommend his company!

James is a first-rate professional with exceedingly high skill level, deep experience, and is a pleasure to work with. He hires the most skilled trades people, who also have engaging personalities, a rare combination. I manage a Class A office building, where excellent quality work is expected, and JJC comes through. I have been using JJC as a General Contractor as well as sub-contractor for many years with happy results year after year. A couple of photos are attached showing in-progress views of a recent job. James is an honest and takes great care with his clients. His office team is also thorough with their invoicing and payments. My interaction has been nothing but good and efficient.

We worked with James Johnson last year when we remodeled a newly purchased home. We hired James to do a significant remodel throughout the house, including bathrooms, bedrooms, family room and living room. His input during the design phase was invaluable. He spent time asking us questions about our lifestyle and how we would use the space. His expertise definitely helped shape a better end result. He was also kind enough to give us advice on the home we were selling and that wasn't even part of the job! The execution of the remodel far exceeded our expectations. We've remodeled multiple homes in the past and the service he provided and commitment to our budget surpassed our experience with all other remodels. Additionally, his entire crew was respectful, pleasant to be around and clean up after themselves daily. James and his crew even finished ahead of schedule. James Johnson construction did a great job remodeling our playroom. He built and designed a large storage closet and removed a column from the middle of the room to make the room more functional. His staff had a great attitude and always cleaned up after themselves. They also did the project in a timely manner. They also stayed on budget. We were very happy with this company.

James Johnston and his company was hired by the main contractor on one of the finest homes over 6,000 s.f. I custom designed for a client, to do the fine carpentry work. Along with custom doors, door and ceiling skylight surrounds, cabinetry, special wall base, patio beams and ceilings, he and his company also did all the teak wall finish paneling of the family room. James and his team did excellent work, and were always up to the challenge of original detailing. They helped sourced quality materials and communicated well with me, and my contractor. One testament of their work is recently seeing how well their work has stood the test of time. I have been an Architect for 35 years and would recommend James and his company highly to anyone.
