I had the privilege of working with Mr. John Kaelin of K2 Construction, Inc. on a complex project that included remodeling, preservation and restoration of an architecturally important, mid-century modern residence. Mr. Kaelin is extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of home construction. He understands the process from beginning to end whether it is new construction, rehab or anything between. John is skillful and experienced at driving his sub contractors toward specified project goals. Often he is right there with them, crawling around a foundation or basement, trying to understand and solve a particular problem. K2 Construction built our new home on Mercer Island. They were involved in the design and the selection of the architect. They obtained all necessary permits and worked with the city on their requirements. K2 hired and subervised all subcontractors, performed much of the finish work and assisted with materials selection. Their work was on time, on budget and extremely high quality. John Kaelin is a perfectionist in all areas of home construction. This is apparant in the beauty and function of our home. We have lived in our home for 1 1/2 years, enjoy it immensely and receive compliments from all visitors and neighbors. We are happy to be contacted regarding references.

K2 is the kind of contractor I used to think existed only in myth. John Kaelin does impeccable work and he uses excellent subcontractors who have to meet his high standards. He was on budget and he finished the job on the day he promised. We stayed in the house during this substantial kitchen remodel, had minimal dust and no blaring boom boxes. I was recommended by John Kaelin of K2 Construction to perform architectural services for a 3200sf custom residence on Mercer Island, WA. The client was the brother of a previous K2 client. With John providing budgeting, design & constructibility input and liason with the building & public works department, I designed a rustic-modern NW contemporary residence that took full advantage of the site and views. The home has extensive decks, large windows and nana-walls, and an elevator. The exterior is highlighted by rustic-contemporary angled wood beams and brackets, displaying the immaculate craftsmanship typical of K2 Construction's work. The interiors are spectacular, featuring lots of douglas fir and stainless steel finishes. The landscape and hardscape were designed by K2 and fully integrated into the design scheme. K2's planning, manangement, design and construction expertise were vital in delivering this project on-time and on-budget, while exceeding the owners' expectations for aesthetics and quality. I am a residential architect who feels very blessed to have met the right people early on. I'm so thankful that 7 years ago one of my clients introduced me to John Kaelin of K2 Construction. From that project forward, I have tried to get John on most of my projects. I always find it such a huge relief when he gets the job. He is a great communicator, always available for advice in ways to build it better or build it more affordably. He sticks to his cost estimates and very rarely has change orders. He also lines up his subconractors very efficiently while keeping the site safe and clean. The result is high quality, beautiful craftsmenship.
