About Us

In 1988, Kevin formed Kalman Construction Corp. with his wife, Betsy, on Nantucket Island, MA. Together they began building custom homes for summer residents, as well as restoring the old whaling captain’s homes in Nantucket’s historic downtown. Kevin adopted a standard of high quality work for Kalman Construction that he has maintained over the years. Innovative products, top quality work and the highest regard for the comfort of his customers became his trademark. South Carolina beckoned the Kalmans. In 1996 they moved the company, complete with many key employees to Charleston. They continued to build high-quality, high-end custom homes, serving the Charleston area for the past twenty years.

Awards

Over the years Kevin's projects were published in magazines including Architectural Digest, Better Homes & Gardens, House Beautiful, and Southern Living. Bob Vila filmed a 13 segment series on Home Again with Bob Vila based on the construction of the Lifespan House in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Kevin and his team did a fantastic job on a complete renovation of my kitchen, mudroom, and bath. They were all very professional and responsive to any issues (which are bound to happen) and finished the job on time. There was always something being done to further the renovation no lag times, days off, etc. I look forward to using Kalman Construction on several more projects in the future and recommend them to anyone looking for quality work at a fair price.

Kevin Kalman and his crew at Kalman Remodeling are the best! The team has done multiple projects for me and will continue to do so in the years ahead. Projects have included two bathrooms (including total construction of one from an existing closet), flooring in multiple areas, kitchen update, garage floor and driveway painting. Wouldn’t think of calling anyone else — Kevin is our guy and now our friend.

Kalman Construction gave me a very thorough written estimate up front and came in price-wise as estimated. This is specialized work! Having someone you can trust, knows what he is doing, proactively communicates and follows up on open issues is awesome. Kevin and team did an amazing job on my first home reno! He was super communicative, quick to come over and quote, and brought his crew in to knock out all of our projects. He was super thoughtful abut the timing of our project, being right at Thanksgiving, and ensured that the house was in a clean, livable state for our guests. I am super grateful for Kevin and team and will certainly use again for any other future home projects.

We hired Kevin and his crew to build our cabana and outdoor kitchen after having a terrible experience with another local contractor that bailed on us. I was nervous hiring someone else but the job needed to get done. Both Kevin and his office manager Christina were so patient with me while I asked some probably ridiculous questions. The actual construction process was extremely smooth and communication throughout was prompt and thorough. I never felt like I was having to oversee the what was going on or act as project manager. Everything was completed on schedule and exceeded our expectations. I wish I had an option to add pictures because the final product is beautiful.

We used Kalman Construction to build a house this year and are satisfied with the way everything went from the foundation up. Mr. Kalman constantly showed his expertise and overall experience throughout the construction of our home where we are happily settled in and enjoying every moment. His company (group of guys) was exceptionally prompt, quite reliable and easy to work with (we even changed a few things during the process, subtracting and adding accordingly).

Kalman Construction did a fantastic job enclosing the area under my raised beach house! I couldn't find anyone until I met Kevin Kalman - and he does a bunch of these each year! He knew exactly what to do, completed it in less than 2 days, and came back later to add more lights and outlets when I decided I wanted more than I originally wanted. Highly recommended!

Overall we are pleased with Kalman Construction. Ours was their first modern/contemporary style renovation and on the whole the final product is wonderful. Despite the pandemic, they were able to deliver with minimal delay and stuck to their original bid amount. In one instance, Kevin Kalman drove all the way to Charlotte NC to secure some tiles that were not available in Charleston in order to deliver our project on time! We appreciate their professionalism and their quick response to anything that needed tweaking after we moved in. The pandemic brought many challenges however, they were able to solve the problems caused by delay and lack of products. The only area of weakness is in some of the detail work that was not done to our satisfaction because modern/contemporary style is not the style they are used to working with.
