About Us

In 1988, Kevin formed Kalman Construction Corp. with his wife, Betsy, on Nantucket Island, MA. Together they began building custom homes for summer residents, as well as restoring the old whaling captain’s homes in Nantucket’s historic downtown. Kevin adopted a standard of high quality work for Kalman Construction that he has maintained over the years. Innovative products, top quality work and the highest regard for the comfort of his customers became his trademark. South Carolina beckoned the Kalmans. In 1996 they moved the company, complete with many key employees to Charleston. They continued to build high-quality, high-end custom homes, serving the Charleston area for the past twenty years.

I would definitely recommend Kalman Construction. Kevin and his team did a thorough and professional job of performing all elements for our house renovation. Communications were excellent as well. Kalman Construction gave me a very thorough written estimate up front and came in price-wise as estimated. This is specialized work! Having someone you can trust, knows what he is doing, proactively communicates and follows up on open issues is awesome. Great to have an honest, reliable, and professional company to help guide us through the house renovation. Kevin and team did an amazing job on my first home reno! He was super communicative, quick to come over and quote, and brought his crew in to knock out all of our projects. He was super thoughtful abut the timing of our project, being right at Thanksgiving, and ensured that the house was in a clean, livable state for our guests. I am super grateful for Kevin and team and will certainly use again for any other future home projects.

We hired Kevin and his crew to build our cabana and outdoor kitchen after having a terrible experience with another local contractor that bailed on us. I was nervous hiring someone else but the job needed to get done. Both Kevin and his office manager Christina were so patient with me while I asked some probably ridiculous questions. The actual construction process was extremely smooth and communication throughout was prompt and thorough. I never felt like I was having to oversee the what was going on or act as project manager. Everything was completed on schedule and exceeded our expectations. I wish I had an option to add pictures because the final product is beautiful.

We used Kalman Construction to build a house this year and are satisfied with the way everything went from the foundation up. Mr. Kalman constantly showed his expertise and overall experience throughout the construction of our home where we are happily settled in and enjoying every moment. His company (group of guys) was exceptionally prompt, quite reliable and easy to work with (we even changed a few things during the process, subtracting and adding accordingly).

Kalman Construction did a fantastic job enclosing the area under my raised beach house! I couldn't find anyone until I met Kevin Kalman - and he does a bunch of these each year! He knew exactly what to do, completed it in less than 2 days, and came back later to add more lights and outlets when I decided I wanted more than I originally wanted. Highly recommended!

Overall we are pleased with Kalman Construction. Ours was their first modern/contemporary style renovation and on the whole the final product is wonderful. Despite the pandemic, they were able to deliver with minimal delay and stuck to their original bid amount. In one instance, Kevin Kalman drove all the way to Charlotte NC to secure some tiles that were not available in Charleston in order to deliver our project on time! We appreciate their professionalism and their quick response to anything that needed tweaking after we moved in. The pandemic brought many challenges however, they were able to solve the problems caused by delay and lack of products. The only area of weakness is in some of the detail work that was not done to our satisfaction because modern/contemporary style is not the style they are used to working with.

Kalman did a kitchen renovation, new cabinets, counter tops, counter island, dropped ceiling with recess lighting. Expanded the dining area by removing a wall. Replaced several windows and doors as well as finish the hardwood floors. We are beyond happy with the way the job turned out, nicer than we could have expected. Throughout the job Kalman was very reliable and stayed to schedule while completing within deadline. When we agreed to terms, the company owner gave us his personal phone number and not once did he not return a call or text within minutes. Nine months after completion we had a few things that we thought could be better and without hesitation he came and made them right.

Kalman Construction just finished building our Wadmalaw Island home and we couldn't be happier with the final product! Before we even went under contract on our lot, Kevin Kalman met us onsite to go over our plans. He also provided references, which really gave us peace of mind. The finishes and level of detail exceed our expectations, and he made some upgrade recommendations that we love today (we added two 12-ft sliding doors in place of French doors that we originally had picked out). Kevin helped us design our home and made our vision a reality. After we moved in, we had a couple of updates we wanted to make, and Kevin has been very responsive and has come back out to ensure everything was working well. Overall, we stayed on budget (Kevin only does fixed contracts), and met our original timeline. Highly recommended!
