Longfellow Custom Homes

We hired Longfellow Custom Homes to convert 1.5 baths into 2 full bathrooms, install a kitchen hood vent, and frame out a wall for a TV/fireplace with custom cabinets. He was one of the only contractors who really understood our vision, and his quote was fair. I also appreciated his mix of modern tools (Houzz app) and old-school planning. Early communication was strong and he came in enthusiastic. As the project went on, things changed. Communication became inconsistent, and he openly expressed frustration about the job taking too long and possibility of him losing money, which wasn’t reassuring as a homeowner. Execution and attention to detail were the biggest issues. For example we selected 3x6 tile for the shower, but 2x4 was installed without prior discussion. Prep work was poor—no plastic barriers, resulting in heavy dust that required multiple professional cleanings. Cleanup in general was lacking, and we’re still finding debris like tile shavings months later. Finish work was below expectations. Items acknowledged during the punch list weren’t properly fixed—mismatched tile sizes in the backsplash, incorrectly installed sink gaskets, a back door that doesn’t close correctly, and visible gaps and rough cut edges in the fireplace stone wall. The dryer install was the major issue. While it fit, it can’t be removed for servicing or replacement—something we weren’t told until after. The ductwork was also poorly designed (reduced duct size with multiple sharp bends), clogged shortly after, and we were charged for a follow-up despite it being an installation issue. Overall, he had a strong vision upfront, but the follow-through, quality control, and accountability didn’t match. I’d recommend being very detailed and hands-on if you decide to work with Longfellow Custom Homes.

I'm positive my final review will be 5 stars, but we're only 1/2 way done! I'm so very excited to see the final product!!! So far everything has exceeded expectations!
