Jim and his team built a new addition back-room addition, garage, and deck for us. They also installed new stairs and handled a number of smaller projects at the same time (such as adding a cedar wall to our closet and installing new countertops in our kitchen). Jim was always nice to work with and they never went over budget. They were also very competitively priced and we feel like we got great value in the end. Jim is willing to fix issues and doesn't try to cover them up, which is not the case with all contractors. Thanks Jim and team!

Lyon Design/Build recently remodeled 3 of our bathrooms. One was a completely new design. Jim is wonderful to work with! He helped us through the planning stage. We didn't need to hire anyone else. His prices are fair and the work his company does is top notch. Aaron who works for Lyon Design/Build is great! All of the subcontractors Jim uses do really nice work and were easy to have in our home. We highly recommend Lyon Design/Build for home remodels.

We found James Lyon on Houzz. After looking at his reviews we contacted him about remodeling our powder room. He was quick to respond to my inquiry and set a time to see the project. We ended up hiring him and were extremely pleased with the job he did. He helped me select the products, came in at the budget we set and was right on time with completion of the remodel. Since then, we've hired him to do several other small projects around the house. We have an old home and are intending to use him for more remodeling. I can highly recommend James Lyon!

Have worked with James Lyon on a few projects on our house. A bathroom remodel, full basement buildout and fireplace facade. Jim and his team are responsive and punctual. Every project has been well thought out with a level of pride. Jim has great suggestions and a level of expertise that adds to the extra design detail we appreciate.

We have used Jim's services for several projects over the years. I cannot say enough good things about him! Doing any work on your home is intimidating and costly. It seems everyone has a horror story about a prior contractor experience. Until you get into it, you just don't know what you're going to get. I feel extremely lucky to have found Jim and that I don't have any bad stories to share. Once he gets started, he moves through the job quickly and efficiently. He keeps in touch and sticks to the timeline. Of course every project has delays for various reasons, but overall any delays we experienced were because of other vendors we were reliant on. Jim & his guys were never the cause of a delay. Not only does he keep things on time and in budget, his work is outstanding. His pricing is fair and he's very honest, even giving us money back for one of our projects when we came in under budget. I've attached a picture of a new fireplace & shelving remodel he did for us back in 2020. The stone work was just exceptional and years later I still just stare in awe at it. It's the main focal point of our home so I was nervous to have it re-done, but Jim killed it and we love it!

I hired James Lyon to build a new (second floor) bathroom at my townhouse in Boulder CO. James and his team were a pleasure to work with from the very start. He listens very well, and is very thoughtful about working with his client to achieve the best possible outcome. He did great job shepherding our permit through Boulder Planning Commission (during COVID period when they weren't in the office very much!), his work was outstanding and he managed his subcontractors very well. He was very accessible throughout the project (I live in California so I wasn't on site, my daughter was/is living in the townhouse) and also worked very well with my wife on fixtures and finish work. He was extremely prompt in correcting a subcontractor error after the project was finished. Last but not least, his pricing was very reasonable. Overall, James and his team were delightful to work with and I would work with him again in a heartbeat. I have high standards for this type of work and James and team met or exceeded them throughout the project.

We had a great experience with Jim. We worked closely together for the planning of our project, and he was very receptive to our design ideas and vision for renovations /transformations in the house we had just bought. Once the scope of the project was set Jim sent us a detailed timeline of the work and detailed estimate. Jim and his team were highly professional and always there to answer our questions. The job was done very nicely, no surprises. And most importantly, the job was done exactly on time and as planned!

First let me say, Jim was very easy to work with. We were impressed with his professionalism as well as his knowledge of construction. He kept us in the communication loop at all times as soon as he was aware of any issues. We had a few bumps that came up, which is to be expected with any construction job. However, it was always easy to come to a resolution. We were amazed on all facets of the project the skill level both Jim and Aaron had. They were very neat and kept the rubble from the demolition picked up and hauled off at all times. We were very pleased with the estimate and how close the actual cost was to the estimate. All in all it was a very pleasant experience and we love the finished outcome! We highly recommend Jim for any remodeling project.

Jim and Aaron were very professional every time. Each step of the process to remodel my master bathroom was well explained to me ahead of time. They repaired anything that they found wrong upon removing my existing bathtub. They tiled up and install a shower base and a fixed transparent door. New vanity and lights were installed. New flooring. Jim helped me looking for a contractor for a different issue that arise in the condo. He was very respectful and friendly. Both Aaron and Jim are reliable, clean, and excellent professionals.

Jim helped us with a full bathroom remodel. After our initial consultation, he sent a detailed estimate that even included a few different scenarios we had talked about and that was very helpful. Throughout the project, Jim and his crew were always on time and on schedule, and very respectful of our house. At the end of every day, they cleaned up and put things away to keep the impact of having a construction site in the middle of our small house to a bare minimum - very appreciated! It is obvious that Jim takes great pride in his (and his crew's) work, and it really shows. We love our new bathroom!

My husband and I hired Jim and his company after interviewing several professionals for a stair rail project. Jim and his co-worker were willing to start this project days before Christmas in order to make our staircase a bit safer. They arrived always when the said they would which was according to our schedule. They collaborated with me and my husband with supplies and design options and were meticulous in the detail planning and implementation of this project. This stair rail is beautiful and everthing we wanted! Most of all we enjoyed their integrity and friendly and professiional atmosphere that this team provided during ther work in our home. James Lyon Contracting does it all!!

Jim completed a fairly complicated remodel for me which included completing architectural and structural design work plus jumping through numerous hoops presented to us by the city for permitting (different than the usual process). Through the entire frustrating process he remained positive and did a great job of adjusting for delays that were well out of his control. He is very knowledgeable, fair, flexible and creative. He will think “outside the box” to come up with new solutions to problems that a lot of other contractors are prone not to do. He is detail oriented and takes pride in his work. He will do everything he can (within reason) to make sure the job is done to the client’s complete satisfaction, even when the client is extremely picky. Not only is he a good contractor, he is a good person and I genuinely enjoyed working with him.

James Lyon is trustworthy, delivers reliable estimates before starting work and finishes work in a timely manner. He is skilled as a woodworker and exhibited excellent ability to meet the needs of my unique situation. In Boulder a remodeling contractor of this quality is a happy thing to find. You can trust him.

Jim and his crew have done considerable work on our 1929 home in Western New York over the years, including a complete remodeling of our kitchen and two bathrooms, a fix for our chronically leaking dormers (which had provided years of aggravation and expense until Jim solved the problem), a new deck off of a bedroom on our second floor, and numerous painting and masonry projects. In every case, we were delighted with Jim’s work. The remodeling of our kitchen and bathrooms was certainly the most extensive project that he undertook for us, and the results were exemplary. Jim’s people were highly professional and skilled craftsman who attended to detail, worked quickly but never carelessly, and cheerfully accommodated our many requests and revisions. In short, Jim proved to be an invaluable partner over the years in maintaining and improving our now 85+ year old home, always completing his work within the estimated time and cost. Unfortunately, Jim left Western New York to move west a few years ago and we have missed him ever since. Jim and his team are a perfect choice for both large and small home improvement projects.

I had numerous items that I needed completed. Jim completed everything on time, within the estimate he had provided and did an excellent job. If I noticed anything that I had a question about or wanted adjusted he did it without any issue or complaint and if it impacted my budget or timeline he let me know. He was also very helpful in coming up with suggestions and alternatives on how things could be done. I had him work on my barn doors - 2 doors that were on the same track. The barn doors had been installed by someone else and when the doors were together they didn’t hang straight and were only wide enough to just cover the opening, the doors were missing a door stop in the middle, so unless you stopped the doors exactly in the middle there would be a gap on one side or the other. They had also installed guides on the bottom that I did not like as they stuck out into the opening and were screwed to the hardwood floor. Jim added sections to both sides of both doors, so that it looked like it was part of the pattern of the door and was meant to be there. The addition of the sections provided the coverage for the opening that I wanted. He put in stops for both the middle and the end so that the doors would properly stop. He took off the old guides on the bottom and installed guides that were attached to the wall and didn't stick out into the opening. He also filled in the holes in the hardwood floor so that I can't tell where they had been and leveled the doors so that they hung straight. I am now very happy with my barn doors! He also installed knobs and handles on all my cabinets and drawers in the kitchen, laundry room and bathrooms. He listened to what I was looking for, offered me a couple of suggestions on the style and then installed them and they are great. He moved some towel racks and he did a great job. I can't tell on the wall where the towel rack used to be. I was very impressed with how well everything was done and would definitely use him again.
