Peter Tschudy

Pete is everything you want in a contractor. He is a master craftsman who is very reliable and really easy to work with and to trust. His crew include Anthony and Jack who share these attributes. They are all very talented and capable, honest and salt-of-the-earth. We first hired Pete in 1997 and over the years, in two different houses, he has been our only contractor. He has replaced ceilings and installed doors. Pete built us a kitchen (featured in a GEICO Super Bowl ad a couple years ago) and just last year gutted an office for an in-law apartment and accompanying deck with built-in planters. (I've included a few photos from this project.) Pete, Anthony and Jack can build a house from scratch but mostly they take on additions and renovations. Anyone in the Montclair area would be lucky to hire Pete.

We hired Pete and team to completely redo and expand an original 1912 bathroom to make it the master bath, a project that included a new configuration creating an adjoining, updated master bedroom. They also did a cosmetic update on a second bathroom. They helped us make the most of the space, provided honest and clear expectations for timing and price, used fantastic electricians, plumbers, painters, etc., and were a real pleasure to work with.

Pete Tschudy built a studio on top or our garage and did an extraordinary job. He is a fine craftsman, with attention to detail and his integrity is unquestionable. When a problem arose, Pete was always ready with creative solutions and equally creative with some architectural flourishes that I requested. I was never left wondering when he would return to finish. He kept me apprised of his schedule and would notify me if he would be delayed. He and his partner Jack Dorr are professional, courteous and a pleasure to work with. My brother, Marc Fortunato, who built houses for 20 years and is now the head and founder of ATD Consultants which assesses large scale phased construction projects, admired the studio as “up there with the finest work I’ve ever seen”.

Peter is creative and very wonderful to work with. As an artist he has made some of my projects and he is always ready to take on new challenges. His work is meticulous and his wood working craftsmanship is amazing!

Repair work to my condo after water damage from unit above. Included a full renovation and upgrade to kitchen, enclosed an open loft space, and repaired storage area. Pete and Jack came up with great design ideas as well as handled the actual work professionally and efficiently. They are honest cotractors and can be trusted. I hired them subsequently over the years for smaller jobs.

I hired Pete and his partner Jack Dorr to remodel my kitchen. They gutted the existing kitchen and bath and built from there. They were so easy to work with. Laid back, knowledgable and always available. Pete made all of the cabinets custom. Beautiful construction and priced very well. After the kitchen and bath were finished, I hired them to gut and redo the bathroom upstairs. Now, they are building a deck for us. They can bring in all of the people you need to get the job done so you don't have to worry. All of the subcontractors were great. Electrician, plumber, painter, and currently landscaper. I highly recommend them.

I have been working with Peter for a couple of years now as we slowly fix our house. In my experience, working with Peter and Jack is a true pleasure. They both work with me to make sure I get what I need in a timely manner and withing my budget. They are very mindful of your life schedule, your house and I always find them cleaning up after themselves.
