It’s always stressful to find a really good home contractor, especially when renovating an old home built in the 1930s in our area. That’s why we are so grateful to have found Gerry and his amazing team in the great unknown of home contractor land. We initially hired Plumb Square Builders to help us convert our dilapidated detached garage into a bedroom with a full bathroom. However, we were so impressed with their high-quality hard work and pleasant and respectful manner that we pursued 2 more projects with them. Our home presented surprise challenges that are often discovered when renovating an old home. But, throughout all the projects, Gerry, Kevin, Patrick, and their subcontractors accommodated these challenges with customized solutions. They also graciously accommodated any other change or customized request that we had along the way. Gerry was always incredibly patient and easy-going throughout. He dedicated a lot of time, energy and attention to carefully listen to our thoughts and questions, and formulate great recommendations and solutions. He also made sure that we were completely satisfied with all the work on the projects. Gerry’s lead foreman Kevin was also equally patient and thoughtful and is an incredibly talented, hard-working, detail-oriented craftsman. He is very creative and has a great eye for design and aesthetics considerations. He always makes sure that his work and the work of the other subcontractors meets high standards, not only for functionality, but also for design and aesthetics. Gerry and his team also addressed and remediated inadequate or improper work from previous contractors. Patrick did excellent tile work. All the skills he gained from his past apprenticeship with an Italian tile master, as well as from his years of experience, really shines through in all of his tile work for our projects. The painters, especially the lead painters Omar and Bonifacio did an impressive job. The lead electricians Don and William did a great job overall with a complex electrical plan. The masons did a superb job of blending existing and new structural elements together. Essentially, all the subcontractors were very responsible, hard-working and seemed to take pride in their work. They did an amazing job overall and were definitely a Godsend. We loved our experience with Plumb Square Builders. They helped update our charming old home into the turnkey, even more charming home that we’ve always dreamed of. We highly recommend Gerry, Kevin, Patrick and the rest of their spectacular team of subcontractors for any house renovation project. We plan to call on them for any other home projects we might have in the future.

Gerry and his PSB team impressed us throughout our project this past spring. Professional & focused, yet flexible and respectful of our needs (even as they evolved somewhat in the middle of the project). We appreciated their orientation to being effective & efficient 'problem solvers' because as we've learned from all our home projects, inevitably, problems of all shapes & sizes will crop up. Their experienced team really made us feel like they would have done the work on our project just the same as if they were working on their own homes. We particularly appreciated their consultative nature on a variety of smaller detailed items over the course of the project as well that added up to a big value add for us.

We used Plumb Square Builders for a living room remodel and were so pleased with the work that we've done several subsequent projects with them. Our initial project involved removing some walls to create a more open flow in our main living area, as well as building new storage units. Gerry, Kevin and crew worked with us to imagine what the units would look like and incorporate our opinions into the work. The work transformed the space and was done on time and at minimum inconvenience to us. We've since had Plumb Square Builders back for projects in our kitchen and rehabbing our fireplace. The same spirit of collaboration ensued and they provided multiple options for details as small as backsplash grout and counter caulk. The team is extremely organized and professional (they even worked with us around our cat-sitter's schedule to help keep everyone safe during COVID). Will have them back for future projects!

One of the best contracting experiences ever. Amazingly responsive and super high quality work. We remodeled a fire place, repaired the chimney, and replaced the roof. The process went flawlessly and the workmanship was impeccable.

Gerry and Plumb Square Builders led the replacement and restoration of my arched windows in a historic DC neighborhood. The windows had to be custom-made with original materials and approved by DC housing - a significant ordeal. Gerry was attentive, professional, and wonderful to work with. He knows the ins and outs of DC area construction projects and made the process completely hassle-free for us. From procuring quotes to hiring contractors to working with the DC’s historic housing and permits offices, he made the entire effort appear seamless. Plumb Square Builders is the only renovation firm to use in the DC area. I speak from the experience of using Plumb Square Builders for three major projects over the last twenty years. Gerry is committed to quality and precision throughout all aspects of the work. Pat is an experienced tile expert who was an apprentice to the Italian master who laid tile at the Basilica. Kevin is a fine carpenter and experienced in all aspects of construction. Plumb Square is able to provide true expertise at reasonable prices and on budget. And, they are honest, a valuable quality in this line of business.

I've had both remodeling and repair work done by the Plumb Square team. Work was always completed on time, on budget, and with great attention to detail - that's why I've continued to use them. Quality of materials and work was outstanding. Gerry's guys were easy to work with, respectful of my time and space. They kept lines of communication open from start to finish, answering questions and returning calls promptly so I always knew what was going on. No surprises.. While Gerry put everything in writing, it's clear he and his team really think about what they're doing so that the unexpected never thows them off course; they are real problem solvers. Can I give more than 5 stars??

We had a superb experience working with Gerry and his crew, and the resulting new kitchen is awesome! Gerry worked with us in developing the broad concepts, working with the kitchen designer, and meeting with other professionals in selecting the additional features. Both on-site craftsmen (Kevin and Pat) were very professional and respectful of our living space while doing excellent work. In addition to our kitchen, Plumb Square completed some additional improvements with the same quality and attention to detail. We would definitely recommend them to others, and would not hesitate to have them do additional work for us. The only drawback to this project is, because of the beautiful new kitchen, we are cooking much more and have gained weight since the project was completed! Elizabeth

I was very pleased with the master suite Gerry and his team created for me this year. Gerry is very responsive to questions and or concerns, clear and straightforward in his approach and brought together a great team to design and execute my project. The architectual suggestion by Julia to add a vaulted ceiling improved the look and feel of the space. Kevin, the project manager did a great job managing the subcontractors and ensuring the work performed was completed to the agreed upon specifications. Also, his attention to detail was appreciated from carefully researching and matching new hardware to my existing items and quickly having a glass shower door replaced due to an imperfection I hadn't noticed. Pat, a fantastic craftsman, performed the tile work in my bathroom and the finished look is gorgeous. I love my addition and would both use Plumb Square Builder again and recommend them to others.

My church has had a long working relationship with Gerry at Plumb Square Builders. This past year (May 2018), we had a major basement leak of ground water that easily led to over 500 gallons in our main Social Hall every day. Gerry arranged for a ground water evaluation, drew up a detailed work plan that accommodated the church's occupants, and provided a best guess estimate for a major construction of a sump pit and drainage system. Because we're a church, financing was tricky, so the best guess estimate was very helpful as we obtained loans and other financing. The overall cost will be around $320,000, and Gerry's original estimate was within 5% of the final cost. His subcontractors were respectful and a pleasure to have in our church. The project is now complete and Gerry hit his timelines as well as his cost estimates. Also, since this was such a large and disruptive project, communication was critical so we could plan, schedule, and carry on the work at the church. Gerry was accessible and very responsive. We will continue to use Plumb Square Builders for future projects large and small.

Our project was changing our separate small kitchen and dining room into a one room open floor plan- with the new kitchen counter dividing the two spaces. Gerry brought an experienced, calm yet enthusiastic energy to our hopes and he and his trustworthy, talented and reliable team did an amazing job re-creating this major/important portion of our home. The space is now much more useable, airy and uplifting- so much so, that without any changes to the external walls, we feel like we got an addition put on our house.
