Rouleau Construction

Our project is the "Surfboard Kitchen" in a Palo Alto Eichler (see photos), which was very much a collaborative effort among our family, our designer, Gordana Pavlovic, and our contractor, Jamie Rouleau. Jamie's contributions to the design of the space include framing/shaping the curved wall beneath the wooden surfboard bar, framing the slanted orange and off-white walls, and suggesting we re-use some original wood from the entryway in the short wall next to the refrigerator to break up the monolithic off-white wall. He also steered us to the angled powerstrips allowed us to have a solid, outlet-free glass backsplash (look carefully for the powerstips - they're just below the green cabinets). In addition to his collaboration to the design, Jamie constructed the entire project with true craftsmanship. He took great care in installing everything and - impressive to me - put in reinforcements where he thought they would be needed without even being asked. Everything is square, level, and solid, and the kitchen is holding up perfectly years after the work was done. Jamie's price was very reasonable, and he did the entire project for pretty much the amount he originally quoted. There where a couple of change order charges at the end, but they were minor and fair. In summary, Jamie is an old-school craftsman and a fair person with whom to do business. I highly recommend him to anyone who is undertaking a home remodeling project.

We hired Rouleau Construction for a complete bath remodel. Having some experience in interior design myself, I wanted to do the plans and be somewhat involved in the remodel. Jamie was great about working with me and letting me be as involved as I wanted, but still gave his opinions when I needed them. He is extremely knowledgeable and has a great eye for design; he pays great attention to detail and his work is top quality. On top of that, he's such a nice person and a joy to work with. We absolutely love our new bathroom -- it looks and feels like a high-end spa. :) My husband still calls Jamie with random how-to construction questions (completely unrelated to this project), and Jamie is always super kind and helpful in talking him through whatever project he's stuck on. We recommend Rouleau Construction without reservation!

Jamie is the contractor everyone says you need to find. Someone you trust. Someone who is a good communicator. Someone who sticks to the schedule. Someone who takes responsibility for the work performed by subcontractors. Someone who listens well enough to learn what is important to YOU so that when something unexpected comes up - which happens a few days a week - he knows if he can just take care of it himself or whether he needs to check in with you. We had an 8-week kitchen, family, dining room remodel and I can say that he never overstepped his bounds and did something we didn't like...nor did he waste time involving me in decisions that didn't require my input. He always told me what he decided later that day and every time I agreed with his decisions. He did not exceed his budget and we got everything we wanted and more. We've recommended him numerous times and will continue to do so...right after we complete our next remodel!

Jamie has deep knowledge of all aspects of construction, and a courteous approach to everyone he meets. He clearly spells out your work plan in a written budget; and he meets his committed time lines. I have worked with many contractors over the years, on both commercial and residential projects. Once I meet Jamie - and experienced the quality of his work - i don't use anyone else. NOTE: We began working with him ~12 years ago and have continued to this day! Some examples: A city inspector came up with a new requirement for our home remodel was that not on the signed off plan. It could have delayed us by several weeks. Jamie took responsibility for researching the requirement, clarifying the exact item needed, providing it very quickly and at modest cost, and we were moving forward again within a few days. The inspector was impressed, so no bad feelings. (We were impressed too.) When we needed an unusual skill to complete our antique door project correctly (blacksmithing), Jamie handled it seamlessly and our special hinges were installed on time. The doors are the focal point of the room, and work smoothly. Best of all, Jamie's day-to-day attitude is pleasant, can-do, and helpful. A great person.

Jamie has been our contractor for 20 years. He fully remodeled one house for us, and now we are well on our way with #2. He has redone bathrooms and kitchens, after taking the rooms down to the studs, and has helped us with major overhauls of bedrooms, living rooms, etc. Jamie always has great suggestions and the work is top quality. His subs are very professional, reliable and totally nice people. I know this sounds too good to be true, but that's why we have worked with him for 20+ years. We have worked with Jamie Rouleau on two complete bathroom remodels and one major room renovation at our house in Menlo Park. Our experience with Jamie on all of these projects has been outstanding from the initial discussions through to completion of the projects. On all three remodels we went into the project with a general idea of what we wanted but short on many specifics. Jamie worked very well with our designer to guide us through the process of completing the designs. His ideas and suggestions (even on the home theater components, which saved me a lot of legwork) were really valuable. He draws on a lot of experience and showed us concepts from other projects. Our newly renovated room has transformed the house beyond our expectations. Jamie listens well, is respectful and was our personal contact on the process from beginning to end. There were no surprises during the work and he kept us apprised of progress and schedule. Jamie is a great guy, and we are kicking off our next project with him now.
