Jennifer, Ben and their whole team are extremely friendly and professional. Their projects are completed on time and their communication with the clients and me (the designer) is unparalleled. The detail and craftsmanship is impeccable. Should there be even rare. small flaws as in any project, they are immediately there on-site to rectify any issues. The longstanding relationships that they have with their own subcontractors is critical to a successful project and I know I can rely on all of them. Jennifer's eye and opinion is also invaluable to me as a designer. I trust Scala Construction Inc. They know their trade and are a pleasure to work with.

I purchased my condo in the Marina and brought Scala in to do the build out. In addition to the complexities in dealing with the HOA and maintaining positive relations with the neighbors, they handled some unexpected challenges promptly and professionally. Most of the work was completed in my absence and communications were timely and detailed with sufficient explanation that my presence was not really required. The largest testament to the quality and of their work was realized during the recent sale of the condo where the corrections list was incredibly small, and the compliments on the design and work performed where flowing from both realtors and prospective buyers. Again striving to please, when provided with the list of minor adjustments required to close the sale they promptly addressed each item within a matter of days. I can highly recommend this team for any high-end construction project due to their efficiency, commitment to quality and ability to maintain communication at all phases.

I have had the pleasure of working with Scala Construction on three different high end projects, one in Manhattan Beach and two in Hermosa Beach. As a realtor, I am hesitant to make contractor recommendations because their work reflects on me and also impacts my ability to sell a property. In this case however, I can confidently make a recommendation to use this company. The quality of their work is top notch, their responsiveness and approach to clients is both warm and professional, and they are unique in their highly organized and collaborative methods of running jobs and keeping all parties up to speed at all phases of construction. Their level of service and commitment to the project doesn’t end there. I have now evolved through multiple sales (to very happy buyers) of their projects and they are happy to assist new buyers and explain the scope of what was done and even address minor issues as they come up. Jen and Ben were personable, professional and reliable to work with. The project was in a high rise which presented some difficult obstacles with the design process but Scala construction was able to problem solve and devise construction solutions that resulted in a wonderful final product. After falling in love with Manhattan Beach, we found a 4500 square foot home two blocks up from the beach badly in need of a transformation from dated 90s style spec house into the vibrant, airy beach home we always dreamed of. We hired Courtney Blanton as interior designer and she brought Scala Construction in as general contractor. Their organized and systematic approach to managing projects impressed us immediately and brought a level of detail that we really did not expect from a contractor. There was an ease and synergy with the team and Courtney and Scala collaborated closely to devise way of implementing our aesthetic wishes with the structural constraints (and surprises!) of the space. Communication was regular, detailed and easy at all points of construction and they took the time to really explain changes and adjustments provide options to address various issues that came up, and provide their input based on our needs and budget. In the end the project turned out beautifully. Their exceptional attention to detail is apparent to everybody who has visited our home and this is the result of a combination of the entire team’s effort to listen and understand what we wanted as well as their willingness to provide input and feedback on finishes and play an active role in ensuring our dream came to reality. I would definitely recommend Scala and speak highly of their capabilities in executing highly custom high end work.

I hired Scala Construction (Jennifer Koster) to do a down to the studs comprehensive remodel, including all new plumbing, electrical, and mechanical on a 1950's house. Because of all of the aesthetic changes I wanted on both the outside and inside, the house ended up needing MAJOR reinforcement and structural work, which was not reflected on the original plans. Jenn rolled with it. She hired a structural engineer on the fly and worked with him to find the least expensive solution without losing too much time. We basically built a whole new house from the ground up in 7 months! Highest recommendation!

We had repair work done. We had a major leak after a big rain. We have had the problem for years and Scala was able to fix the leak. Two other contractors over the years have tried but failed. It was great to have a winter with no leaks!!

I am a specialty concrete contractor and this was the first time I have worked with Jennifer and her team. I truly appreciated her follow through during all phases from samples to finished product. We had a great experience with Jennifer and Scala Construction. To start, they were always on site (and on time) on all scheduled work days, which is surprisingly rare for many of the other contractors we have worked with, whose schedules seem to change at the last minute without regard for the client. Their work was done on budget, and we thought their communication was especially good -- Jennifer kept us aware of any problems or changes to the original plans -- and we were also impressed with the quality of their subcontractors. We have recommended them to our neighbors and friends.

The final product was fine, far from perfect, but it was working with them that was the most horrific, stressful, awful experience of my life. Getting them to finish the project and honor the contract was hellish. I had to micro-manage them to make sure they were going to finish the project and not take my 50% deposit without finishing the project. I was constantly blamed for their mismanagement (they sent an inexperienced rep, the project manager's boyfriend, who only took pictures of the area to be re-modeled, took no notes, no measurements. He was in and out within 10 minutes). They constantly complained they were losing money on my project and that they never should of taken it. They tried to back out after their "plan" for my re-model seriously backfired. They sent 1 unlicensed worker to do the re-model who told me he was unlicensed and was hoping to become a licensed contractor by year's end. He also told me how much he was making on the job and how much they were profiting (I really didn't need to know this info). His ended up firing him because he was constantly a no-show. They claim I had structural issues when in fact I don't (I had an independent contractor assess the property on one of the days they were a no-show which is why I chose not to demo the concrete floor which was their additional $2-4000.00 suggestion. I also showed their workers "before" pictures of the walls who also confirmed everything was structurally sound. note: If the property was structurally unsound, you would assume their worker would have caught it and NOT drywall the area that needed fixing). A 10 day project turned into almost 2 months of hell of going back and forth. I had to leave town by a certain date and the only way to meet my deadline and get this done before my departure was to allow them to work on weekends. It was extremely inconvenient to me because those were my only days off especially since I was about to head into 7 day work weeks for the next 2 months. It was exhausting dealing with them. Based on my personal dealings with them, I will never hire or refer them to anyone.

Jennifer and Ben have been amazing. They worked with my budget and managed to make wonders. They were super patient and really listening to what I wanted. They had a lot of attention to detail and treated me as if I was spending a million dollars on the project, taking all of my requests seriously and working hard to find ways to make them come true and make me happy. They take great pride in delivering a job well done and it shows! Everything in the condo was outdated from the 90s and they managed to make it look sleek in no time. Now when I look at my apartment, i often think of them and how grateful I am that they took me on as their client!

As our first home purchase since moving to Los Angeles from Europe, it was important to us to hire someone that could work with our budget, schedule and communicate effectively. Unlike many contractors, they are also quite sophisticated in their operation. Everything is tracked, transparent and explained. They kept excellent records of communication between both us and their subs, itemized every dollar spent and ensured that any changes required were explained in detailed and completed with our signed approval. Overall, they made the whole process so easy and enjoyable that we are about to start a second project with them.
