As a young boy, Aaron Schnarr was magnetically drawn to electricity and had a burning desire to figure out how everything worked. His passionate curiosity led him to ask anyone and everyone a million and one questions so he could try to piece all of the information together. After spending a week being forced to sit and learn about subjects he didn’t care about, Schnarr would burst out of school and hit up the local surplus store, choosing to spend his allowance on switches, wires, batteries, and lightbulbs. He experimented, designed, and made his own robots, and took a very hands-on approach to solve all the problems that stood in his way. Flash forward 20 years, it was time for Aaron to buy a home and start a family. But why, he thought, would I pay someone else to supply me with power, when I can just make my own? So we left the city life behind, bought a 5-acre property, and turned a dilapidated summer cabin into an all-season, off-grid, family home. He designed and built an energy system, powered entirely by the sun. This system met our needs for about 5 years while we expanded our family (3 kids, 2 dogs, and 1 cat!). As the saying goes, you’re only as strong as your weakest link. Though we had a robust solar system, our lead-acid batteries were on their last legs and we realized we needed to replace them. After countless hours of research, Aaron was not satisfied with the current battery market. Switching to lithium iron phosphate batteries seemed like a no-brainer, but they were so expensive! So, naturally, Aaron decided to make his own. And that’s how Schnarr Systems Batteries were born! Aaron designed the batteries, sourced all the materials, and took a leap of faith that they would arrive before our old batteries officially bit the dust. They got here just in time, and team Schnarr assembled our new batteries in the heart of our home, on our kitchen table. We have been running our house on these batteries and they have exceeded our expectations! They were a life changer. We are so giddy about them, we just had to share them with the world!
