About Us

Sisu Builders, LLC, is a full-service residential and light commercial general contractor based in Superior, WI. We offer quality, competitively-priced services delivered by a close-knit group of devoted tradespeople. House design/construction, kitchen and bath remodeling,siding, roofing, windows, decks, garages--we pride ourselves on being able to produce quality work in all these areas at all price points. We are the pastor at the shotgun marriage of your dreams and your budget. "Sisu" is a Finnish word with no exact English equivalent. Generally it translates thus: strength of will, spirit, and courage and endurance in the face of adversity. The formation of the company coincided with the death of Helen (Waara) Thornton, the 100-percent Finnish grandmother of Sisu owner Josh Jipson, and the company name is a tribute to her sisu as well as a reminder of some of the characteristics Josh wants embodied in the company.

A neighbors tree broke and fell on our roof / porch area. I called Sisu Builders to come take a look and provide an estimate. They came the same day to look at the damage and very quickly provided an estimate. The price was very fair and appropriate. They started fixing the damage the following week. They did a good job and I will definitely reach out to them for any future needs.

We couldn’t have been happier with SISU Builders. Not only did they do quality work on our kitchen and bathroom remodel, but they were professional, honest, and dependable. I hired Sisu Builders for a time and materials job in 2016--a bedroom suite in our basement that included creation of an egress window. They got the job done quickly, and I could get a hold of Josh whenever I needed to. Josh is accessible, smart, and conscious of your project goals. I highly recommend Sisu Builders.

If you really want the best this is the one. Josh is fair, dependable and amazingly enough.... honest. I'm currently living in a home he built. Superior quality, super efficient and beautiful. I can't recommend ANYONE more confidently. I have had TONS of work done on my various houses and had completely lost confidence in getting honest real help. Till now. Am planning about a 70k remodel this spring and this will be the company I will keep.

Mainly a window job following a massive wind/hail/rain storm. I was very happy with the materials and install, and they did it in the middle of Minnesota winter. I recommend Sisu, and my criticisms are very minor: It is now paid in full but a few touch-ups remain, which I assume will be completed. This was my first experience with home insurance, and if I could do it again I would request a much more detailed quotation with more specifics of the materials and effort required. Some of these details were lacking in our cost estimate and so State Farm made our life difficult... my fault as well for my lack of experience.
