My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.

Smart Construction, Inc. is a full service residential home building and remodeling company that has been in business since 1998 and is licensed in North Carolina. We pride ourselves on helping our customers create living spaces that match their lifestyle. We understand that price is important but know that quality is critical when it comes to the place you choose to make your home. We offer new construction, custom home plan design and remodeling services in all price ranges. We work with the client from the initial planning and budgeting stage through project completion. Our corporate office is located in Shelby, North Carolina. Our service area includes primarily Gaston and Cleveland Counties in North Carolina. Some neighborhoods our work can be found in include the following: The Pointe, Spring Forest, Magnolia Plantation, Woodbridge, Riverwood Plantation and Johnsfield II. . Matthew listened to everything and then did what he thought was best.This was a new build, we brought our plans. He always goes by the plans. You will really pay for a change. When you are building you are on a budget but as “non builders” we don’t know what a budget is so when you choose your countertops or cabinets or floor, I am not your customer as the vendors said “he is” so I am not allowed to know The price of what I am buying. Even though he is pulling the money from our construction account. I was told how wonderful everything was and how certain things were against code etc, yet I was a realtor for 20 years and worked in new home sales for 15 of that so unless Shelby is not compliant with Charlotte laws, well then. In other words, he can build a house. It is sturdy, he has no ability to understand design. My closets are full of plastic that have bent or fallen. Don’t misunderstand. This house is valued at 1 m on the lake. This is our retirement home and I will admit I did not watch well at the time due to proximity and the fact that we had medical issues. BUT Matthew Smart is a GREAT business man. He kicked us and went home with a lot of money.

We hired Smart company to remodel our kitchen and master bathroom and we are very pleased with their work. We receive a lot of compliments on the redesigned areas. Everyone from the company was very friendly and Matt understood our needs from the beginning. We would definitely recommend his work to others.

SCI is a well run, professional organization that executes on projects in a manner that works well for people with busy lives. He is willing to meet after normal business hours, weekends, or whatever is needed to get the project complete. Quality of construction is very good which is a testimonial to frequency that the contract is on site. High recommend for other people doing new construction.

Remodel of a half bath replacing flooring with water damage. Remodel also included painting the room, sink and toilet replacement. Marble countertop added also. Installing hard wood where there was once tile with an exact match to the adjoining hallway. Excellent job and coordination with scheduling many tasks in a small space. Finished project in projected time period and stayed within budget. We later hired Mr Smart for another smaller project.

Matt and his team built a house for my wife and me. We were initially looking to buy a house, but when we began toying with idea of building our real agent highly recommended Matt. After getting an estimate from multiple contractors in the area, Smart Construction beat them all. But that doesn't mean we ended up with "builder grade" products. For example, a competitor's estimate figured in pre-fab cabinets and no crown moulding; whereas Matt's estimate alotted for custom built cabinets and crown moulding while still providing a lower overall price. Another advantage to using Smart Construction is Matt's background in engineering. He was able to save problems in-house and offer unique ideas. This came in handy when customizing the homeland to meet our needs. Matt was very accessible during the building process and was at the house most days while construction was going on. I would highly recommend Smart Construction.

I have worked with Matt Smart and Smart Construction for many years on a professional level. Matt is very professional and knowledgeable. His engineering background gives him an advantage when working with new clients for a construction project. I would highly recommend him for any new construction or remodel project.

We were in need of closing in our bonus room to create a bedroom for our twin girls. I contacted Matt Smart & he came out to take measurements within a few days. The room was completed in less than a week. Our girls were thrilled with their room & the modification made a huge impact on our ability to sell the home & market it as a four bedroom home. Smart Construction, Inc. has completed two different projects for me over the last several years. The building of a new home and the finishing of the basement a couple years after that for our home. Smart Construction Inc. builds beautiful houses of good structural integrity. He is capable of building custom homes and including several additions to our house we requested that weren't in the original plans. We have not had any issues with the alterations. We have been in the house for several years now and haven't had any structural or cosmetic issues and the re-sale value has increased over that time period. If we weren't pleased with something cosmetically, Matt would correct the issue for us with no hassle involved. Matt and Sarah are easy to work with and the quotes for the work were close to the end result unless we requested additional work outside of the original scope during the job process. I would recommend Matt to anyone in the Shelby, NC area.
