Van Strydonk Construction

Total gut and remodel of our cottage built in 1946. We now have a cottage that is a showstopper. The ceilings were only 7 ft and was always our dream to vault the ceilings. Not only did we get a gorgeous open feel, we got 3 skylights, a transom above the window over our relocated kitchen sink, and a unique shelf with lighting that highlights an antique yellow and green enamelware collection. We also repurposed that original pine ship lap walls and ceiling throughout the space, including using it for designing a unique vent hood in the kitchen. We also had a challenge to keep the rustic cottage feel in the small space using all wood products. This was accomplished using a white stain on the pine used for all the walls, and allowing the knots to naturally bleed thru with time. The kitchen was completed using a Koehler thundergrey farmhouse sink to match the slate appliances and using "lemoncello" granite that coordinated with the refinished cottage table and chairs and the repurposed pine. VanStrydonk was excellent to work with from start to finish.
