We had VanderMeulen Builders add on to our home. They were so good about listening to what we wanted and then making that vision come to life for us. Every employee that came to the house was professional, friendly and a top quality craftsmen. The workmanship is absolutely beautiful. They completed our project on time and right on budget. VanderMeulen has done several projects for us--the largest an addition, adding 8 feet to the kitchen, reconfiguring a main floor bath, and adding a second floor utility room. It was a major project that involved plumbing changes in five rooms. VanderMeulen's do superb work and take a personal interest in making sure details are accurate and appropriate. We live in an 1897 historic district Victorian home and all the trim and doors were milled to match the original. They have also helped us with other smaller jobs in the intervening years. The work is superb, they have excellent relationships with subs who are excellent and are there when needed. They spotted and corrected errors in the architect's drawings. Because they do a great deal of historic renovation, VanderMeulen's has an inventory of "saved" materials, making it possible to provide genuine parts when helpful. All of the different craftsmen who've worked on our various projects have been pleasant to have around. For remodeling a lived-in home, they've been great--limiting disruption and keeping everything clean and orderly. We recommend them highly, you won't go wrong with VanderMeulen.

Designing and building your first home is an emotionally rewarding experience but it can be challenging at times given the collaborative nature of the process and the steady stream of decisions that can have an impact on the budget. Having a builder you trust as well as like is essential to making the house-building experience a good one. My husband and I interviewed three builders recommended by our architect. We knew immediately that we wanted to work with VanderMeulen Builders (VMB), a three-generation family business with extensive experience in building high-quality homes in a variety of styles. Five years later, we know we made the right choice. We highly recommend VMB for a variety of reasons: 1) Everyone who works there is customer-service oriented; 2) Communication with the owners and employees is exceptionally professional at all times; 3) VMB has long-term working relationships with equally experienced subcontractors, which results in quality work and schedules being met; 4) Monthly billing affidavits are timely and comprehensive; 5) Meetings schedules are held on a regular basis at mutually convenient times and result in the desired outcomes; 6) Unexpected but inevitable challenges are handled professionally, quickly, and fairly; 7) The finished product is exceptional. We will soon be entering our 22nd year in business in Holland, MI and VanderMeulen Builders has done the major renovation of 3 historical downtown buildings we occupied as our business grew. All the buildings they have renovated for us required major work inside and outside the buildings including, in our present store, moving a staircase leading to both the second floor and the basement from the center of the building to one side of the building to provide more sq. footage of space and a common hallway to the apartments renovated in our building and the adjacent attached building. The building owners who own many of the historical downtown buildings paid for the work. While I can't tell you actual costs for the major work that was done on all three it was likely well over a million just on the building we now occupy. VanderMuelen has renovated many of the downtown buildings to take them back as close as possible to the early 1900's but with modern store front size windows required for retail. Many of the buildings had facade work done in the 50-60's that had to be removed. They completely gut and rebuild the building interiors on the main and 2nd floors and modernize the heating, electrical and plumbing throughout. The apartments they finished above the stores are elegant. We have lived in two of them for several years. His company is one of the few in the area capable of the extensive restoration projects on buildings of this era our area. VanderMuelen's companys work has been spectacular whether working for commercial or residential clients. It is why so many of our downtown buildings have been renovated by Jack VanderMuelen's company. Kate and I have worked closely with Jack and his team on all three of the buildings we have rented over the years. What we always appreciated from Jack is his "can do" attitude when we asked for considerations most builders would bulk at. Jack would mull it over for a minute and then say, "Yes, I think we can do that." His carpenters have always been great people to deal with, respectful and smart. We have never had a complaint with any of them and their craftsmanship is always superb. Larry W.

The 18 month project was completed on time with the highest quality workmanship possible. Many valuable suggestions were made and incorporated over the construction process. All of the subcontractors utilized by Vander Meulen Builders reflected the same high standards.

Vandermeulen Builders did a great job gutting and rebuilding about 4,000sqft of our downtown office. The custom woodwork, including receptionist desk, display case and trim, are amazing.
