We began engaging with Steve/Cassio Builders for the construction of our new home in June of 2020. We completed our contract in September 2020 with project completion in March 2021 and extension deadline bringing us to May 2021. Throughout the weeks and months we worked with Steve, we were presented with constant excuses and delays for our project. Despite working through some selections (per Steve’s request, but without much guidance), as of the beginning March our construction had not even started, and necessary materials were not ordered. After speaking with another 2 of Steve’s clients, we found that both of those projects were also significantly delayed (one 5+ months past estimated completion and the other not yet started within the month of planned completion). Now they are having trouble getting their phone calls returned and projects moved forward. To say we are completely unsatisfied with the relationship with this builder would be a total understatement. We have since ended our contract and are taking up legal action to recoup funds drawn that were not been spent on our project. We've recently heard allegations that there are other outstanding legal claims against Steve/Cassio Builders that we were unaware of prior to this week. It appears Steve is more focused on continuing to sign on projects than to complete the projects he is currently contracted for. I'm posting this in hopes of preventing what happened to us from happening to others. Steve is a charmer, full of lies and overpromises. While his intentions may not be bad from the onset, he has significantly overstretched himself and does not appear capable of remedying the situation.

We chose Steve not just because of his knowledge and expertise, but initially for the straight forward and honest approach to our complete gut job home renovation. We are thrilled with the quality of work and Steve’s exacting standard. More importantly, having someone of Steve’s character at the helm of our renovation was vital as COVID-19 hit weeks after we began. We had unforeseen delays, supply issues and showrooms were closed. We were staying 2 1/2 hours away. Having someone we could trust and walkthrough us the renovation under these circumstances was invaluable.

While we never intended a full renovation, we came away very happy with the results of our new home. While spending months looking for a home to buy, & frustration mounted, we happen to come across one of Cassio Builders recently finished projects. Simply looking at pictures it checked all the boxes in terms of design and style. We took a chance reaching out just to understand the process and if we could even manage such a project based on the total budget we were looking in. Steve was instantly welcoming, open, and honest at our initial meeting on one the current sites he was working, to see the quality of construction. On the spot, he was able to immediately explain how we could make something work based on our budget and spent many hours with us that day unexpectedly searching for sites, and looking at them with us to get a sense of what he explained. Steve has an entire team that listened to our wants and desires for our home from layout to finishes based on budget. Everything from architects, to design individuals, to construction ideas were handled through Cassio. The finishes inside and out were everything we could ask for as an open dialogue continued throughout the entire process. We were always included as phases changed and the build continued. Steve educated us throughout the whole process which allowed us all to remain grounded and with mutual understanding. He is an honest, hard-working individual, who will take the time discuss things. I have done numerous renovations over the years and have even torn a house down to its foundation only to rebuild it anew. Sometime after this last, I decided that the house needed a new entrance, so an addition of over 450 interior square feet was designed and built together with a covered front entrance and patio. I bother you with this brief history so that you will understand that I have seen and dealt with quite a few general contractors and subcontractors over the years. I have met and done business with none more responsible and attentive to detail than Cassio Builders and I am convinced that this starts and ends with the attitude and care that Steve Kurelko puts into his work. There are never excuses; there are explanations. This is reflected by the people who work for him as well. It is almost needless to say that nothing goes exactly as planned at virtually any stage of construction; it is critical to have people you can trust and rely upon to get the job done properly. Although I have been aided and assisted by able architects, most recently by one who recommended Cassio Builders to me, I have come to appreciate the fact that the input of a builder of Steve’s ability and honesty would have been invaluable from the beginning; the initial planning stages would have been far more inclusive and have avoided some of the surprises previously mentioned. A good builder brings a different set of eyes and perspective to the actual construction process and ideally should be part of the planning phase together with an able and concerned architect. I could cite numerous examples, both small and large (in terms of both scope of work and/or expense) but that kind of detail is inappropriate here. He is an expert in the scheduling of tasks. Also his ability to work with a wide variety of subcontractors. One of Steve's most positive strengths is the ability to listen. He hears the various concerns, desires, and wants of the owners. Then he advises as to what is possible and what it may cost. Weekly on site construction meetings required by the builder function to maintain communication with the owners. The purpose of these meetings is to review construction progress from the previous week and to keep the owners involved as na active part of the project. Also to look ahead on what is planned for the next week and to answer any concerns or questions. One very important part of the whole construction process is what occurs before ground is actually broken. The firm stresses the advance selection of equipment materials and supplies. In this way, delays can be avoided during construction through this advance planning. My wife and I are very impressed with Cassio Builders and specifically with their representative, Steve Kurelko. We both recommend them highly and without reservations. They are outstanding in every way.
