1 Review for Construction Innovations
Matt Cain
Average rating: 1 out of 5 stars
I will provide only facts during this review. Construction Innovations did not meet multiple requests, and stated that our expectations were not attainable. We are finished with the house, but it does not meet code and we cannot even let them know because they refuse to answer their phone. Other contractors that I have spoken with find it odd that he does not already know, but the professionalism that is expected of a home builder is not present. The quality of the work is well below average (according to outside opinions). The few things that the contractor attempted to do himself currently have problems that he will not address. He will not honor the home warranty that he claims that he provides. Both Dave and Justin have been very emotional and in multiple accounts we had arguments before reaching a compromise. They went on vacation during a crucial part of the project, but as previously stated, they do very little work themselves. They did not leave a point of contact when they left, and we could not contact them (even though we were assured that we would be able to communicate via text/email). While they were gone, my brick mason noticed that the upstairs wall was almost 2 inches out of plum creating major problems with window trim and brick finishing. Dave Kramer claimed to have no idea the wall was not plum (enough said). He also lost our keys to the patio door, which means we will have to have a locksmith cut new keys. In addition, he lost indoor door handles that we had to repurchase. The garage door, that he claims to have experience in, does not function properly. Again, this is one of the few things he was able to attempt on his own. Appliances were installed incorrectly, and luckily Home Depot honored their warranty and came to "fix" the appliances only to find out the contractor did not know how to install them. Dave claims to have built houses for over 30 years, yet he has only had his license since January, 2006. He did not know where to find buy shutters or assist us in the search. He could not find the style of gutters that we wanted (round-very common) The basement concrete that had plans of acid staining (communicated well in advance) has several rough spots and low spots that will not accept stain properly. Window cranks for our Pella casement windows were lost by him, and again, he did nothing about it. I was fortunate to contact Pella and they provided us with the crank handles that we were lacking. Construction Innovations does not take responsibility for their mistakes, but rather takes offense to them when pointed out. Trim work is the worst that I have personally seen in a half million dollar home. When we questioned the quality, he said that our expectations could not be met and we were being too critical. Windows were scratched, and he claimed that my brick mason or gutter installer did the damage and he would not fix the problem. The roof has visible rafters showing as well as low spots, and this time he agreed and assured us that it would be fixed. The roof has not been fixed. The hot and cold water lines were installed backwards, and again Home Depot found it comical the he did not know what he was doing. Cable was ran to rooms that we did not ask for, yet it was not installed in our master bedroom. Dave gave me the number of the electrician, but did nothing to fix the problem. The electrician he used answered the phone the first time and set up a time to fix it. He did not show, and when I called to see why, he answered the phone without realizing it and I heard him say that I was calling again and he hung up. Dave left all of the silt fence up and did not clean up his mess outside, and again blamed it on someone else. A foundation drain did not function properly causing water to backup into the basement, and Dave blamed this one on my landscaper. He charged him over $300 to repair the drain without communicating this prior to the job. I am very thankful that I used my own brick mason, gutter installer, tile for shower and back splash, and outdoor concrete. All of the previously mentioned pointed out several mistakes made by Construction Innovations. I am confident that the majority of the problems were due to their incapable abilities, which would be understandable if they ever took ownership. I am also thankful they required us to use Superior Walls for the foundation walls, because I am 100% confident they do this because they are not capable of building a house in square on their own. The heart of the house surrounding the kitchen has a bay window breakfast area. The walls were out of square so bad that trim had to be trimmed to fit in some places and gaps are visible on other parts of the room. Water lines in the house make random noises when using the master shower or master bath. The front door entrance was framed too low for the tall doors that we used. We were told the doors were bigger than the plans and this caused the problem. Custom home builder? I think not. At one point, we noticed that some of the doors being painted in our house did not match what we ordered. We were told they were for another job and the home owner realized the doors they had installed were incorrect. Construction Innovations did not notice this, so they used our paint/painter to paint them. Overall, we could not be more unhappy with their work.
