Michaelson Homes did a total remodel on our Master bath, and updated 3 others. The quality of work was excellent. The quality of people that worked in our home was even better. They work very hard, they maintain their schedule, and they leave your worksite very clean each day. Marc is an honest, and trustworthy experienced builder. His employees are craftsmen that take pride in their work. I would highly recommend them.

You know all those horrible stories you've heard about working with a contractor? Well, they don't apply to these guys. And believe me when I tell you we are not easy to please. Michaelson's team did what they said they would do and, despite complications associated with Covid, they got the job done on time and within budget. Our project involved a large renovation ($250,000 total cost) following a water loss that destroyed half of our first floor and 70% of our basement. Major components included full kitchen including new custom cabinets, countertops and backsplash, new flooring throughout and new lighting. To us, it's the little things that impress. So when we encountered a hick up with the availability of flooring & had to go shopping elsewhere, and heard our designer was not available, Mark Michaelson just stopped what he was doing & accompanied us to other flooring stores. Lisa on the design team provided us with great ideas and kept us from making some bad mistakes. Tony, our project manager, was always available to respond to our questions and needs, and we just can't say enough good things about the rest of the crew. Honestly there wasn't one person on the Michaelson team who didn't consistently go out of their way to make sure our project went smoothly. Even after all of the work was done, the Michaelson team reached out to schedule the final punch list visit (which we had all but forgotten about since the initial work was done so well).

If you want the best general contractor for major renovation work without compromise, your short list is Michaelson Homes. Our experience with them was outstanding (and we are picky). We picked them based on personal recommendations and their top position on Angie’s List. The scope of our work was sizable ... a new addition, convert a porch into a room, a new patio, all new roof, new gutters, gut the kitchen and complete re-do with top-of-the-line appliances, re-do the floors, repaint the house, etc. Along the way, they also fixed a leaky bathroom, repaired rotting wood, fixed underground drainage, and countless other things. Michaelson is not cheap, but you get what you pay for (but they are not the most expensive either). The most important thing is getting the best project foreman/manager .... ours was john Coleman, and he was outstanding. They offer in-house architectural and design services. We used both ... it is also important to have a good feel for what you want to guide both of these to the design you want. Their greatest asset is their in-house carpentry shop ... they make and install all of their own cabinetry, and the quality of this work was exceptional. There were very few surprises on the project, and when there was one, they show you everything and offer good options. They came in within 20% of original estimate. We could not have been happier with their work, personnel and leadership to get it done right.

We used the Michaelson team for a large renovation project over the past year - the scope of the project was pretty extensive. Their architect, Francesca Padgen, did an amazing job helping us to translate our vision to plans. She and Marc were incredible to work with. Our on-site team, was always very professional and did excellent work. The ease of communication with our on-site team, Marc, the designers, and office staff, was terrific. I finally feel like this house is now our forever home. The results were well worth the investment. I could not recommend them more highly.

We hired Michaelson Homes to assist us with a few projects within our home. The scope of the project included an updated bar space, mud room, two powder rooms, and installing built in cabinets in our living room. they helped us see past our request and the final result is better than what we had hoped for. The crew was easy to work with and good communication with daily updates of what was accomplished each day. We will be calling on them again when we are ready for our next home project!

Michaelson Homes "took a chance" on us, coming all the way to Morrow to work with us first time home builders on a somewhat unconventional project; it was clear from the outset that Marc and his team embraced this challenge. Our project was unique in that it was a complete build involving creating a barn home on the site of an old farm with a barn. Our goal was to incorporate/use much of the old barn in our new home. Headline: this job FAR exceeded anything we could have hoped for or imagined. Skills/Professionalism - Marc and his team are the epitome of skills/professionalism/listening to customer. Plus, the entire team was the friendliest group of folks we've ever encountered in a field where "friendly" and "construction" are rarely used in the same sentence. Michaelson Homes completely debunks this stereotype. Design - Our first encounter with Marc, Kristin and Francesca left us driving home saying "WOW!" Marc, Francesca, Lisa and Steve (Riverside Cabinetry) were incredible in the design process, carefully listening to our desires, incorporating everything into initial designs, being flexible/patient to make changes and most importantly, coming up with ideas we would never have imagined on our own. Our goal was to incorporate as much of the "old barn" into the home and the Design Team was amazing in identifying creative yet not overwhelming uses for much of the old Barnwood. Francesca has an amazing knack for listening to not only what is said but also to unspoken or hard to verbalize wants/needs. She created 3 unique floor plans and encouraged us to pick and choose what we liked from each, which she then seamlessly incorporated into final plans. Construction Management - we feel we have a lot of credibility here because we lived on site in a small house on the property so we had a birds-eye view to every aspect of the on-site process. Denny was/is without question beyond amazing as a construction manager, craftsman and liaison with the customer. He was the glue that held everything together and after 12+ months of nearly daily contact, we joked that he became part of our family. Words that describe Denny: caring, personable, expert craftsman, fun, down to earth, anything is possible attitude, insightful/creative, great listener! We love showing off some of the amazing features that Denny created and personally built; our stairway to the 2nd floor is 90% components from the old barn and when folks walk in, the first thing they say, is "oh my, that is incredible." Best testimony: many of the inspectors who came in to review the various stages of construction often brought colleagues back just so they could see such features! Craftsmanship - The initial demo phase on the old barn was our first clue that Michaelson Homes was different. Demo was actually a careful piece-by-piece deconstruction knowing that much of the wood would have a place in the new home; amazing attention to detail. Steve and his team of craftsman/cabinet builders at Riverside Cabinetry designed/built features from cabinets/tables/shelving to several barnwood sliding doors to stair treads actually made from support timber from the barn. Impeccable. Construction Team - it is clear that Marc carefully vets/selects his sub-contracting team beyond the Michaelson Team of craftsmen. We saw EVERY sub and honestly developed great relationships with each of them.....none of them fit the stereotype..... they owned their craft and went out of their way to communicate with us. Denny knew every sub well b/c he works regularly with each of them.....this created a cohesive team. Marc clearly has incredibly high standards and every one of his subs embraced this same level of perfection expected. Problem Resolution - projects inevitably have issues along the way and ours' was no exception. But Marc and his team were most responsive and "owned" every problem with never a hint of "that's not my problem." We could share several examples but having been in the business of dealing with "customers" through much of our professional careers, all we can say is that Marc's teams' response to "problems" made us "Raving Fans" of their attitude, skills and quality of resolution. Think of a problem as a "-10" and we usually just hope to get back to "even" but Michaelson Homes turned every problem into a "+10".....every time! Kristin gets her own paragraph! Kristin is that often unseen, behind the curtain stagehand who quietly but effectively solves problems you didn't know you had. Ultra responsive and friendly, we knew that whenever "Kristin was on it," great things were about to happen.......every time. She wins our "unsung heroine" award. New clients will be honored and amazed to interact with Kristin. Bottomline - our project came in under budget and wildly over expectations! We just celebrated Thanksgiving with our family of 17 and our vision of an open, inviting, warm home came to life beyond measure. Very thankful for the Michaelson Homes team.

Michaelson Homes designed, built and managed our home remodel, which included a complete kitchen renovation, aesthetic updates, and a three-story addition consisting of a new garage, mud room and master suite. We chose Michaelson Homes based on their reputation for excellence in quality work. They exceeded our expectations, particularly their in-house cabinetry shop. Francesca, who helped us with the overall design, listened carefully to our ideas and came up with ways to incorporate the kid-friendly features we were looking for, including a small hockey goal in a child's bedroom and a slide going from the second floor to the mudroom. Although designing an indoor slide was new for her, she exceeded our expectations. The slide is camouflaged as a built-in linen cabinet. Our project manager, Keith, was fantastic. He responded quickly when problems arose, including one Sunday afternoon during a storm. Throughout the design and construction phases, there was quality work and organization across all elements. I would gladly work with Michaelson Homes again and have referred friends who are now using them for the construction of their new custom home.

Michaelson Homes did a complete kitchen remodel for us this past year and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the finished product. I am not one of those people who had specific design ideas in mind - i just knew i wanted a spacious area with a huge island for entertaining. Michaelson helped us through every single step - from lots of different overall design options to guidance on specifics like lighting, surfaces, tiles etc. The project was completed on time (there were never lags in the work) with minimal disruption to our daily lives (we lived here through the 4 month renovation). Michaelson was so innovative and was able to come up with creative designs to work with some quirky aspects to our 100+ year old Home (like a sliding cabinet to allow access to a hardy used door while maximizing cabinet space). The attention to detail is amazing and this entire project has far exceeded our expectations. The work Michaelson Homes does is superb, the employees are professional and responsive, and I would highly recoommmed them for any home project.

We hired Michaelson Homes to do beams, cabinetry, and trim work in our home and loved them so much that we hired them for our first big home project - a three-season room addition (see A Room For All Seasons on the Michaelson Homes Houzz site). Our three-season room consists of a living room/dining combo with stacked stone fireplace, multiple casement windows and screens, three sets of french doors, and an adjoining patio and lawn. We couldn't be happier with our new room! Construction Know-How with High Design: Marc not only has exceptional construction knowledge, but he has great design skills. He helped us select the white oak for the room walls and recommended the staining treatment that gave us the perfect gray, patina look we were going for. Superior Craftsmanship: From walls to ceiling to beams, the entire room is wood. The attention to detail required for creating the hexagonal end of the room and lining it up to the white oak walls and to the beams on the ceiling was spectacular! They also had to remove a triple hung window and replace it with a small circle window in our stairwell to accommodate the new roof line. Inside and out the window looks like it's always been there. Outstanding Crew: We have small children, and it was comforting to have a trustworthy, consistent crew in our home. Denny, the project manager, did a wonderful job of communicating the next steps and decisions that we needed to make to keep the project on time and on budget. We would HIGHLY recommend Michaelson Homes to anyone looking to build a new home or remodel their existing home!

We just finished having our first and last dream house built by the Michaelson Homes team, and we stand with the other 18 reviewers who gave them a 5 star rating. From the exterior and interior design team, (Mike, Francesca and Lisa) that helped improve our ideas and put them on paper, to the top-notch building team, we were pleased beyond words. Most of their subs have been with them for years, and their workmanship was second to none. I would put Brad, Neil and John's carpentry skills up against any around, and Chris and his electrical team were equally as competent. We used Michaelson's cabinet shop, Riverside Cabinetry, for our kitchen cabinets and couldn't be more pleased. All those people were perfectionists, professional and respectful, and we are grateful to all of them. The same goes for their masons, plumbers, roofers and concrete guys. We never had an issue with any of them, and our home is beautiful. And Marc (owner,) Kristen (productivity,) and Robby (accountant) were also a delight from start to finish. If I could put a full-life statue of John Coleman, our foreman, in our front yard without embarrassing him, I would! There is no one better to manage a house build...period. Our house was built in a timely manner, as promised, and we appreciated their innovative computer program that allowed us to read and see photos of what was happening each day. It also made selections and communicating much easier, knowing everyone was on the same page. My husband and I actually cry tears of joy in our dream home, made a reality by this incredible team. We had called quite a few references before choosing them, and every single one couldn't rate them any higher. We now join them and know we made the right decision choosing Michaelson Homes.

We have been extremely happy with all the work we have had done with Michaelson homes. The architect, design and interior work has by far exceeded all expectations. We added over 1,000 square feet, over 500,000 dollars and every part is prefect. The cabinetry and interior trim is impeccable. The team is very responsive and extremely professional. I would HIGHLY recommend Michaelson Homes for your remodeling projects. We completely gutted our first floor and the end result is BEAUTIFUL. We had a construction manager on site each day and the crews were all professional and very friendly. Their cabinetry work is excellent, and Noah and Owen (2 brother's) are fabulous "in house" carpenters . Our project was about 5 months and we did not have a SINGLE issue with a contractor. I wish I was better at computer posting, so I could attach pictures of their beautiful work. Michaelson Homes LLC is a creative, professional and very talented firm! Our kitchen is gorgeous,complete with a baker's pantry, and the large great room is warm and inviting! Thank you To Michaelson! Very ,very happy customer!

This was complete interior home completion. The project was in excess of $400,000 and was poorly managed and the quality of the work and materials were beyond bad. The materials and subcontractors left the project completely unfinished. The electrical contractor, left over 20 plugs, switches and items non-functional. We had the basement floor skim coated and stained, the stained floor has numerous defects including chipping, and cloudiness. The trim used was an MDF trim versus wood and the workmanship was so poor we have had to hire another contractor to redo over 50% of the trim to make it align properly. New stairs were not even leveled by the contractor and overall quality of all finish work was incomplete to poor. When installing the subzero refrigerator they damaged the hardwood floor. They improperly installed a free standing ice maker and we had to call 5 times to have it properly installed ultimately paying another professional to fix the problem. From our meetings we believe the owner actually was at project site less than 10 times once the project started over a year period. Their finish carpenters would show up for an hour or two and then leave to another job. Their record keeping is very suspect as we have never been able to fully reconcile their costs with the bills. They refused to provide updated cost and spending information on a monthly basis. There was no accounting for their work or costs, there no change orders submitted. To date we have spent an additional $25K to repair and redo Michaelson Homes work and are now consulting a different electrical contractor to repair all the mistakes in the electric. I would not recommend this contractor for any project as their quality of work

Creative, quality workmanship. Have worked with them as a designer for a client as well as hired them for projects. Project management is top notch. They can do it all.

We hired Michaelson homes to help us with a difficult kitchen renovation in that the space was very small. We had an issue with the plumbing because the downstairs bathroom was taking up a lot of space. Lisa Hirtzel (designer) was able see the potential and created a beautiful design with out moving the bathroom. She showed us how we could take away a wall and create a light, bright kitchen and utilize the area for maximum space. My husband and I had a good idea of what we wanted as far as cabinet design and color were concerned and what we particularly liked was once we had explained our ideas Lisa returned with two or three options NOT a hundred which was the case every time we asked advice from other kitchen designers! John Coleman was an excellent manager and the renovation stayed on time and in budget. We are so happy with our new kitchen and are very proud that our ideas manifested into a perfect space for us. Michaelson Homes has completed several home projects both large and small for us over the last several years, including finishing a basement, remodeling two bathrooms and smaller jobs with flooring and kitchen upgrade. Mark and his team are wonderful to work with and easy to have in your home. The work is top notch and they run a neat and tidy job with good clean-up daily. They provide unexpected value if an issue arises. The craftsmanship is top notch and they provide unique design ideas. The staff is good with kids and dogs too which is a plus. Obviously, it speaks volumes when you repeatedly hire the same company for all your remodel jobs.

Brought on Michaelson for a significant addition to our home that included excavation, foundation, below grade spaces, hardscaping and multiple stories of living space. The process management and supervision was reassuring during the multi-stage construction calendar and provided my family great relief as we simultaneously welcomed a new addition to the family! Creative solutions and experienced reasoning were prevalent throughout. The preferred subs used were just as accomodating and the cleanliness of the worksite was very much appreciated. The scope of our project was to design and construct a warming facility to support platform tennis activity. An architect was engaged, plans were developed, and the put out for bid. While not the lowest bid, Michaelson Homes came in with a competitive bid and a very professional presentation. The firm also came with glowing recommendations. Michaelson Homes was engaged. Shortly, thereafter, the architect passed away and the project appeared to stall. Marc Michaelson helped us engage another architect, who was able to pick up the pieces and get the project back on track. Marc Michaelson and his site supervisor, Kevin, maintained excellent oversight of the project and regular contact with me through the whole process. Work by the Miachelson team and other sub-contractors was completed in a very professional manner. The quality of the material and workmanship was excellent. Marc maintained regular dialogue about costs and the whole project was completed within budget. The team was very receptive to making changes when requested by our committee and did so with minimal upcharges. Marc Michaelson constantly evaluated the building process and discovered a few design problems, which he was quick to resolve. We used Michaelson Homes for an extensive remodel of our 100 year old home. The "miracle workers" at MH resolved numerous challenges during the project: - surprise structural issues - collapsed walls, ceilings and destroyed floors due to a flood during the project from old plumbing in a non-construction area - removing, reinstalling and reframing four large original stained glass windows - controlling construction traffic and debris in order to preserve existing trees, including a white oak that may be one of the largest in the state. The care and attention to quality throughout the entire process was second to none. All of the MH staff were a pleasure to work with and responsive to our requests. In particular, the on-site project manager performed continually above and beyond our expectations. MH used their knowledge, skill, experience and good-old-fashioned focus on customer satisfaction to complete this job and meet our expectations for budget and schedule. The end result is an amazing home that functions well, has unique features, is beautiful and gets rave reviews from visitors and neighbors.

Perfectionists! They will ruin your expectations of quality work - no one else will ever live up to them! We hired Michaelson multiple times to renovate our nearly 100 year old tudor cottage style home. The first renovation was a full gut of the first and second floors, moving stairs, taking down walls, adding on to the second floor and creating a new roof line. They transformed our 1 1/2 bedroom home into a three bedroom, three and a half bath spacious home with an open floor plan. But in the course of doing so, they added character and charm. We say we have an old house with a new house inside. It's absolutely spectacular. Every single detail is custom to us. No one has the same trim, the same details, the same tile, etc. It's truly OUR house. Marc Michaelson came through our house oozing creative ideas, saving us from a botched relationship with a Design/Build firm. We ended up only minimally using a new architect because it was easier and better to just work directly with Marc and his team on all of our detailed decisions. These guys not only do excellent work, but they help you weigh the pro's and con's of all the varied decisions you have to make in a full renovation of this capacity. It's so helpful to have someone telling you what they think is worth spending on and what's not, while also asking practical questions to help you think it all through. The second renovation was a cosmetic change to restore the dining room fireplace and bookshelves to a more period appropriate design, adding functionality (a small hidden bar area and china storage) as well as beauty (gorgeous new mantle and wine storage). At the same time, they winterized a 2-season room, adding a heated floor and better access to outside. The third renovation was a complete gut of our basement/lower level and exterior landscape design. Again, Marc came over and brainstormed completely new ways to make full use of our outdoors. Using Michaelson's inside designer, we came up with a lower level plan that maximizes our family's usage of the space. We added a large family room, craft space and workout room. Outside we'll have a screened porch and new firepit area when it's all complete. The team actually lowered the floor adding 4-6" of new headroom! It was amazing. And they carefully retained our original stained glass exterior windows and creatively re-used them in the space. The most important part of working with Michaelson though is the quality of people. They will become like family to you. My children loved having them around and never once did I worry about who was in my house. On the contrary - once I asked their guys to stay on the job longer because I had a shady landscaping crew around. But sadly, they don't do everything you'd need to do around your house, so they've ruined us! We now expect such high attention to detail, quality and work ethic that we can never work with anyone else!

Michaelson Homes was highly recommended by a friend for my master suite project and, without a doubt, they were worth every penny. From start to finish, Marc and his staff went out of their way to understand and deliver against my needs and ensure 110% satisfaction. It's clear they take personal pride in their work. When a weather-related problem arose on a national holiday, Marc still got a crew of FIVE people on-site within an hour to fix the issue. Marc's (principle owner) and Denny's (on-site project leader) personal responsiveness and attention to detail was excellent and made it easy for me to just let go and trust their judgment. Michaelson Homes recently completed a 3 floor addition to our home. This addition also featured a additional garage and was integrated into a new patio and pool area. We also used M.H. for an entire new kitchen including moving two walls and enlarging exterior windows. The complexity of the project ranged from matching up roof lines to managing a changing traffic flow both inside and outside of the home, Michaelson Homes did a masterful job. We interviewed several contractors and even more cabinet makers for the project and decided to consolidate all of our project needs with Marc Michaelson, we made a good decision. Marc ended up managing, or at least acting as our liaison with the pool company and the company doing the deck work...from a timing and integration perspective he did a great job. Our project ended up coming in on budget, on time, and exceeded our expectations. Additionally, and perhaps most importantly, the work crew that was literally "living" with my family for 3 months could not have been more professional, more polite, and took pride in cleaning up their worksite, our home, every night. We have now used Michaelson Homes for 4 separate projects in 3 different homes over a 10 year period and we could not be more pleased. We are not looking to do any more projects any time soon, but if we ever do it will be with Michaelson Homes!
