If I could give no stars I would. Denis took 4 days to remove 4m of wall. He had to go to another job and ran out of time to get further with my job, so I asked him to let me know when he'd be free to continue. He later claimed I'd 'kicked him out' and not giving him time to complete - but our text messages prove this is far from true. What is true is he wanted to leave all his stuff at mine while he went to the other job for a fortnight (his stuff included tools, etc., which took up the entire ground floor main room space - and I do mean the entire floor). I said no to this because he'd already taken so long to do a relatively small task, so I wasn't confident that he would be back in the time he had estimated. I asked him to instead bring them back when he was free to continue with my job after the one he had already scheduled.
Part of his original brief (on my job) was to remove a toilet - which he did: and almost unbelievably - left the toilet uncapped. I didn't know this - I messaged and called him over the course of a month, asking what the smell was, and whether he could visit to see if he had inadvertently disturbed something. He never attended again - he told me: "Just make a large plug out of plastic bag or something and squeeze into the pipe. It should help." - after consulting another builder I discover that Denis had not capped the soil pipe - effectively leaving me sleeping in an open sewer for a MONTH. Despite me politely and repeatedly asking what might be causing the smell (which was by this time making me feel ill). I buy a cap - for £10 - and which doesn't require any expertise in fitting - it just slides over the cap. No more smell. When I ask him about this he says: "Plastic bags are usually used on building sites for temporary block of smell . I’d never realised that a woman in UK would go to by a plug for sewer pipes. That’s something new for me. Non of my man clients do that…. "
I would advise that you only use this builder if you are a man (who doesn't mind substandard work (did I mention he also partially removed the wrong wall - leaving me with a hole in the wall?) and sexism).
