My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.

About Us

Evan Topilow, custom home builder and real estate developer in Westfield New Jersey, specializing in new construction, additions and renovations. As a builder I am constantly challenged by the impressive ideas my customers, architects and designers create. At the end of the day I’d rather put in the hard work on a complicated build that will guarantee to impress people than coast through a mundane project. While most people see only the finished product, it’s what’s beneath the surface that I take equal pride in. Today’s building methods and materials have become more complex. When done right, things like structure, energy efficiency, and reliability are the important things going on behind the scenes that are the foundation of a great home. In addition to custom home building and renovations we purchase and upgrade distressed properties for re-sale and acquire properties for the development of new construction homes.

Topilow and team were fantastic! We worked extremely well together to meet all expectations and accomplish every goal. Topilow is true and fair to every word discussed from initial meeting until completion. He is involved and inclusive with daily decisions, and is further backed with wonderful support by a great team and network!

We hired Topilow Development to take an existing house down to the foundation and build back a custom home. The Topilow team was always professional, easy to work with, and able to handle any situation in a timely manner. When we were looking for builders it was critical to find someone we could trust with our project and we absolutely made the right decision with the Topilow team. Evan was always honest about decisions that needed to be made and kept constant communication to ensure we were always aligned. I’d recommend Evan and team to anyone looking for a builder that will deliver quality work and do it without the typical headaches you read about with other contractors!

Evan Topilow was absolutely phenomenal to work with on the renovation of my kitchen. He painted the cabinets, replaced the backsplash, and replaced the countertops with beautiful, sleek looking quartz. Evan was always on time, very responsive to my phone calls and texts, and was just a pleasure and very professional to work with. I highly recommend Evan Topilow for your construction project or renovation!

Evan oversaw a major renovation on our home and he was very easy to work with. He kept the process moving and helped us to effectively deal with the unexpected issues that inevitably happen when you open up the walls in an old house. He also was very helpful in guiding us to make the right choices with regard to fixtures, counter tops and tile so that we made style choices that will stand the test of time.

We absolutely made the right decision in selecting Topilow Development for our kitchen renovation/addition project. Evan was a true partner throughout the process, and the end result is straight out of a home improvement program. His subcontractors were top notch, and the attention to detail exceeded our high expectations. While we opted for upgrades along the way that contributed to costs, there were virtually no surprises. We hired Evan and his team to help with a major repair and renovation project following an accident involving a tree falling through our home. Evan was an invaluable resource who helped guide us through the process and helped brainstorm ideas for the project. He is skilled in both modern and antique farmhouse styles. He was also incredibly patient as we managed through our insurance claim. We are beyond thrilled with the quality of the work he and his sub-contractor teams performed. We are grateful to be back in our home — and excited by some of the improvements we made.

First and foremost, Evan has become our trusted advisor on all matters large and small related to our home. He is thoughtful, creative, diligent, and customer-focused. As a first time home-owner, Evan is an invaluable resource to us. We hired Evan to expand our outdoor living space, including a larger patio and a gazebo. He recommended local architect, Kenneth Abrams, who drafted a plan that we liked and was within our budget. Evan and his team brought the plan to life. We were impressed with the way his crew jumped right into the project. Evan had the forethought to pre-wire the new gazebo for lighting, outlets, ceiling fan, and a TV. As a result, we have a beautiful outdoor patio and gazebo to enjoy with friends and family.

Evan Topilow is the answer to your building wishes! He was professional at all times and a pleasure to work with. Evan was focused on the details just as intently as we were for our custom build. He educated us throughout the process and gave us full access to his expertise. He would call us back right away and always made us feel like a priority. Beyond the customer service, his work is amazing! He built us a gorgeous and structurally sound home that we love being in every day. I would highly recommend working with Topilow Construction in a heartbeat.

Commented: What are the floors?The floors are red oak. Our designer mixed a custom color on-site with the flooring contractor. Unfortunately I don't know the mix of colors used. A good flooring refinisher should be able to come ...

Commented: Great house! What kind of wood and what stain did you useThe wood is red oak. The stain color was a custom blend. We used Loba 2k matte finish.
