Creating Thoughtful, Livable Spaces For You in Bethesda, MD

Lorla Studio is a Washington DC area full service interior design studio. We specialize in high end residential remodel and renovation projects, and love working on commercial projects, particularly in the hospitality sector. We work closely with you to understand the basic functional needs of your home and lifestyle, or your brand and business, to determine your desired aesthetic. Once we have a good feel for these fundamental parameters we work within your budget to deliver a space that is unique to your needs and values, and one that reflects the existing architecture and and geographical location. We source materials, furniture and decor from all over the world, and have fostered relationships with artists, vendors and craftsmen to ensure quality. We prioritize working with smaller businesses, local companies and other vendors who prioritize social and environmental sustainability, over big box stores. However, most of our projects are a mix of high and low pieces, high value solutions mixed with one-off finds, and some items from large retailers. We love incorporating vintage elements into our projects, and if we can’t find what we’re looking for locally, we have a wealth of online vintage retailers we utilize. We also love designing bespoke elements for your space, and regularly do so. We have customized everything from furniture, to millwork, to art and more. Often times the full potential of a space is only realized through a custom solution, tailored to the exact parameters of your home or business.

We weren't able to afford an interior designer for our entire home so we hired Laura twice for a 2-hour consultation to help us with layouts, paint colors, and general interior design recommendations for our home. I sent Laura images and agenda items ahead of the visits and she came prepared for the most productive use of our time. I couldn't believe how much we were able to cover in 2 hours- paint colors, wallpaper, fabric, carpet samples, built in design, material suggestions, hardware suggestions, the works! While the cost per hour may seem high for new home owners, the cost savings of her suggestions and vendors she recommends ended up paying for the consultations and then some. I'm sure that value goes even further with access to her trade discounts for full service design. Even without leveraging Laura to order on your behalf, she brings expertise on local vendors and online stores where you can find items you wouldn't otherwise know about. We ended up saving money with our contractor by leaning on suggestions Laura gave us, her notes and drawings are thorough with actionable plans. It was incredibly difficult to find a designer who would do hourly consultations and I'm so glad we found Laura- she has impecable taste, she's efficient and focused, and gave me the confidence to execute decisions on my own in the absense of being able to hire a full time designer. We hope to be able to hire her for a future home! Couldn't recommend enough.

We hired Lorla Studio to design and decorate our living space in Larkspur, California. We fell in love with her style and previous projects, and that's what initially drew us in. But what made us expand the project to include our master bedroom was her professionalism, work quality and responsiveness. She is very easy to work with, and intuitive, which is a really valuable skill when it comes to moving the needle forward with clients that can't always articulate their needs (like us). She managed us to help keep deliverables on time and in budget, and was great at presenting a range of choices at different price points. We also found Laura to be resourceful at working across time zones. We love her and highly recommend her!

When I first reached out to Lorla Studio, I did not know what exactly I wanted, but I knew I needed a change. With a 6 month old son, our living room had slowly begun to feel messy and chaotic as the baby gear crept into our lives. Laura listened attentively to my description of what I did not like about the space anymore and responded with thoughtful suggestions, example photos, and a few specific recommendations that ultimately made a big difference. In addition to sample photos, Laura provided sketches of how each recommended should be implemented in our particular space. with easy-to-understand tips (ex: how high to hang art, how to determine what size rug to buy, etc.). Each suggestion also had sourcing options at multiple price points. Laura was extremely patient with all my follow-up questions and did not seem to mind when I asked for her opinion as I tried to find art to hang int he new space. It's incredible how the simplest changes made a world of difference. We could not be happier with the end result. We would have undoubtedly made a few missteps had we attempted to do this on our own, which would have added up in costs over time. Instead, we did it once and did it right with the expert guidance of Lorla Studio! We will definitely use Lorla Studio again to determine best payout and/or design of other future home or office spaces.
