ModelHom was recommended to us by a good friend who had purchased many furnishings from their showroom in Grover Beach. We were in escrow on a home in January of 21 to move in April. We paid for Karen's services to measure and design our space. April came and went and in July/August our furniture began trickling in. Karen did loan us two sofas so we had something to sit on during the long wait. It was appreciated. The trouble began when a very large sofa and ottoman for our upstairs family room arrived and the delivery guys were not able to get it up the stairs. When the delivery guys contacted Karen about the problem, she said “Oh well, they will have to pay to have it moved using a crane at an additional cost of 800-900 dollars". We asked if we could get a smaller sofa given she had the measurements and she told us how much more it would cost to change the sofa. In an effort to “cut our losses” we agreed to have her delivery guys winch the new sofa up the side of our home onto an outside deck and into the family room through a sliding glass door. After several days and a big headache, and an additional $350 we had the sofa winched up the side of our house. This was a circus. Two living room chairs were delivered and had so much of a chemical off-gassing odor that we had to keep the chairs in the garage for several weeks before we could even begin to use them. When I asked about this, Karen said “It is common and just the way it is with new furniture”. These chairs still have an odor that I mask by tucking in small sachets of lavender behind the cushions. Frustrating that the attitude toward it was so cavalier. We paid at least three separate delivery fees each time something would arrive at ModelHom These charges were non-negotiable and only after some pressure did we get a $50 discount for the sofa that did not fit. A few more issues came to light. We noticed the front legs of the leather sofa were tilted at an angle. We took a closer look and discovered the frame had been broken, the legs installed incorrectly and a small cut on the leather from unpacking and delivery. The broken sofa began the journey of 8 weeks of waiting for a response from the manufacturer, and ModelHom to communicate with us about the process. After several months, we were able to get the sofa repaired and returned to us. Finally, the bench was not right in our dining room. Too large, high and obstructed our windows and overwhelmed the room. Before removing the tags, I asked Karen to consider selling it from her showroom. Karen would not consider it. Instead, she said she and her team thought it "looked great" and tried to sell me a rug to enhance the space. Finally, we are saddened to say that after spending many thousands of dollars with ModelHom over the years, we cannot recommend them. Karen literally said “She didn’t know what else she could have done”. My response to that is simply "How about Customer Service"?

Karen and the ModelHom team are fantastic. Karen came to our home, took a look around, and then proceeded to pick out the perfect furniture to reflect our taste. The whole process was easy and economical. We have a lovely space due to Karen and ModelHom. In addition, they are just lovely people and fun to be around!
