My husband and I recently had the pleasure of working with Sarah on a new build project on the coast of Maine. Sarah truly exceeded our expectations in every way. Her professionalism and keen attention to detail ensured every aspect of the project was executed flawlessly. We had a wonderful experience with Sarah. My wife and I are not particularly "design" minded, but we had to do a complete gut of an old kitchen in our newly purchased home. Sarah advised us from start to finish: selecting styles, colors, layout, finishes, hardware, everything. She made numerous trips over long distances to consult for the initial design, meet with our contractor, and assist with cabinet delivery. She took the time to really walk through the plans so that I knew exactly what I was getting, and she is very responsive to emails and texts. We retained Sarah to help renovate a dated condo with a bad kitchen layout. She created a gorgeous design that completely transformed the place and beautifully elevated its aesthetic appeal. She was especially masterful at maximizing storage space. We also appreciated her ideas on finishes, from floors to tile to lighting and plumbing fixtures. She worked seamlessly with our contractor and was very responsive to our needs. A very successful project!

I wanted/needed to transform my 1969 built kitchen into a fresh, contemporary space. I know my limitations. I needed a professional! I hired Steinberg Custom Designs and couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome. Sarah Steinberg is organized, a great communicator, and has an exceptional knowledge and skill level. Her design ideas exceeded anything I was envisioning on my own. She developed a plan with the style I loved and a scope of work which matched my spending plan. It was a joy working with Sarah. She was able to blend the style of the new addition to my kitchen with the existing kitchen ( which I think is much harder than starting from scratch). She listened to my concerns and offered multiple options for remedies to them. She kept me from becoming overwhelmed with decisions and choices. The outcome is stunning I couldn’t be happier. She picked the contractor who was excellent. The cost estimates and timeline were right on except when I added changes. Sarah was great to work with. She communicated wonderfully with my husband (who loves to ponder ALL his choices) and me (who'd prefer to see 3 or 4 recommendations and make a quick decision) so we both felt understood. She's thought about things that we've never considered (e.g. where the switch for a garbage disposal should be) and her expertise means we have a kitchen where everything is right where you need it to be. It was important to us to stay on budget, and on schedule, and Sarah was clear and conscientious about both -- communicating about tradeoffs and helping us make good choices. She never made us feel bad when we chose a more economical option (e.g. inexpensive counter for the laundry workspace), but on two or three occasions she gently suggested we look again at our choices and explained why we might opt to spend a little extra money (stone slab; widening a doorway entrance). In each case, taking her advice gave us features that we LOVE and were more than worth it -- so I have great respect for her judgement and sense of value. Sarah hooked us up with a great contractor and helped the project track along smoothly. She's fun to work with and defused a lot of the stress that goes with a major renovation. We love the way our house looks, feels, and works now. Highly recommend.

Sarah was absolutely incredible to work with!! We did a large renovation – basically a gut of the first floor (including master suite) and a few rooms on the second floor. The layout was really problematic previously – the house was chopped up, there was a lot of dead space used for hallways, and it didn’t capitalize on the view of the river that we have. Sarah was masterful at maximizing the space we have – which wasn’t easy. We live in a colonial from the 1700s that has been added on to several different times. What also was incredible was that Sarah worked with us to make sure the kitchen design fit into our historic house. The navy cabinets and the utilization of the beams that we found in the ceiling makes the kitchen feel timeless, which is one of the things that was really important to us living in an old home. Sarah was also incredibly flexible. We threw a curve ball at her in the middle of the project when we found out I was pregnant. We would no longer need a wet bar, but would instead need a renovation of a children’s bathroom and laundry upstairs. Sarah easily pivoted and we truly have everything we need out of our house now for our growing family. Sarah has worked with multiple members of our family on various projects throughout Maine and we are all equally happy with the outcome – despite very different tastes, styles, and budgets. We would highly recommend working with Sarah to anyone! We couldn’t be happier with our home.
