Surface Works

I grew up in the interior design business. My parents started in 1955 as a carpet and drapery store and evolved over the years into a full interior furnishings business with 13 designers selling to both residential and commercial. I joined in the mid 70's as vice president. By the mid 80's the business environment changed and I left to open a retail kitchen store with merchandise and cooking classes. By 1989 I grew tired of retail hours and closed. I took a temporary job with a paint contracting firm while I pondered my next step. After 6 months the owner encouraged me to go out on my own. At the time besides painting wallpaper and faux finishes were very popular and I became adept at all three. Because of my contacts from the family business my career took off in both private homes and businesses. In 2010 I moved from Rockford, Illinois to Fort Collins. I had attended CSU in the 70's and had always missed the area. It only took a couple months for me to make contacts with Realtors and designers to be back working full time. I love the creative side of my business and apply it to doing simple wall graphics, installing new trim, painting funky furniture and enjoying the reemergence of wallpaper after a 20 year lull. I work mainly on my own although my son who has his own painting business will collaborate on bigger jobs. Because I work by myself I do many smaller projects that often get overpriced by the larger firms. I also find that clients prefer to have work done one or two rooms at a time so their whole house isn't torn up. I also do a lot of business with people moving in or out. I am very comfortable with my background to help with color choices and provide large sample boards if needed to make better decisions for your spaces. I live close to CSU and concentrate on a 30 mile radius for projects. I look forward to helping with your design projects.
