The Renovators of Canada (T-ROC)

Highly recommend TROC (The Renovators of Canada) after they renovated our kitchen and entryway. From the initial visit with Steven to William's management of the project from demolition through to the finishing touches, they found ways for us to save money, time, and hassle. Not only did they complete the job on budget, but they also finished on time, which is rare for projects of this size (a complete tear-down and rebuild). We were kept informed every step of the way, and we only had one "no work" day because the team completed part of the project faster than they anticipated. (Gotta love that!) We appreciated being able to share ideas throughout the entire process, benefit from their advice, and end up with a kitchen and entryway we're going to love for years to come. Thank you, TROC!

Our kitchen reno was done June 23 to July 10 We are very pleased with the results. William the project manager and his team of tradespeople were informative, reassuring and skilled. They made sure we knew who was arriving, what work was going to be done and what the next steps were. All invoicing was tracked efficiently without any surprises. William makes you feel like your reno concerns are his. Photos are before and after.

We had The Renovators of Canada renovate our entire main floor, including the kitchen, powder room, flooring, trim, and lighting, and we’re so happy with how everything turned out. The whole team was great to deal with. They kept us updated, were easy to communicate with, and the quality of the work was excellent. The kitchen especially came out even better than we expected. Renovations are never perfect, but whenever something came up, they handled it quickly and made sure we were happy with the end result. I’d definitely recommend The Renovators of Canada to anyone looking for a contractor. Thanks again for all the hard work!

We had our kitchen renovated by T-ROC and are really happy with how everything turned out. The whole process was much smoother than we expected, especially considering we were living in the house while the work was being done. The team was friendly, showed up when they said they would, and kept us updated throughout the project. There were a few small things that came up along the way, which is probably normal for any renovation, but they were dealt with quickly and professionally. Our new kitchen looks amazing and has completely changed the feel of our home. The quality of the work is great, and we've already had a lot of compliments from family and friends. Thanks to everyone at T-ROC for all the hard work. We'd definitely recommend them to anyone looking to renovate their kitchen.

I do not recommend this company if you’re looking for a trustworthy, professional contractor. What was supposed to be a straightforward 2-3 months renovation (removing/moving walls, sistering joists, redoing floors and washroom) turned into 8 months of poor workmanship, extra charges, and frustrating and toxic communication. Issues included: structural work done incorrectly, careless mistakes (doors left open, rain entering through open windows, broken glass left on the floor), wrong cuts despite clear instructions, lost materials, and inaccurate invoicing (which they blamed the technology for). They frequently pushed unexpected costs, misrepresented quotes, and failed to follow industry standards. New walls were not straight and were left at a 10-degree angle. Subcontracted work was poorly managed and at one point a subcontractor even threatened to put a lien on our house as they were not paid by TROC. Overall, the quality, transparency, and professionalism were far below expectations. I strongly suggest choosing a different contractor. Our experience with TROC ended with a huge financial impact and an unfinished project.

I had 3 bathrooms renovated at my house, Chris Wang and Jonny are very professionals and very hard working people, job was done on time (2 weeks). Thank you guys for the job well done.

The work was done in a timely manner. Communication with all members of the team was excellent. The work was done professionally.

We were pleased with the work overall, but we did have to call them back to fix a couple of issues, which they did well. Also, when the sink was removed, damage was created; however, it was well repaired.

This company has great people and provides great work. The guys on-site were absolutely a pleasure and I'd work with them directly any day. This review however is mostly geared towards making other consumers aware of their management and pricing practice. Four weeks ago I hired two separate trades to take on the work of: a) demolition of dry wall for shower and a second 2 ft. long wall, b) lay down lining and drain for a shower and c) build a 6 ft. shower barrier. I'm basically preparing for a walk-in shower, replacing a bathtub. My previous estimates were between $1200-1500 including time and material (and a 1 day turn around time). Unfortunately both trades ended up having to cancel the project at the last minute, massively delaying my work. Not uncommon in the contracting industry. In desperation, T-ROC was recommended by a good friend of mine. Nasser and his guy came out to quote the work the night before. I made it very clear that I was in a bind and I needed the work done extremely fast and diligently (next morning by 11am latest for my next trade to do work). I expected an extra cost that would reflect the timing I was expecting. To my surprise, I was provided with a total cost of $2200+HST. Knowing the half day effort and material would be nowhere near this amount, I still accepted the amount to get the work done in time. Right off the bat, their team was late and no supervisor was on-site to oversee the work. Although an apology was made by the labourer, Nassar was either oblivious or unapologetic to it. Worst however is that the team wasn't fully aware of the effort that was needed on the job site -- they hadn't been properly briefed or there was some severe miscommunication. Half way through the work (I stuck around during the effort ALL day) I was then told of overages for $700 due to having to fix some studs behind dry wall - about 3-4 of them. According to my calculations that accounted for nearly $120 worth of material and an extra 60-80 minutes of effort. The price gouging clearly didn't stop and I felt I was being too taken advantage of. I approached Nassar and made him aware of my displeasure, to which he attempted defending with poor excuses of having to pick up material. I was given the option of picking up the material myself and I wouldn't be charged the extra $700. It however took my becoming intensely agitated for Nasser to understand the mistake he made in trying to extract even more profit from me. The more ridiculous part is that T-ROCs sales team acts so very friendly and professional. They do a great job of making you feel like you're getting white glove service and being taken care of -- BEWARE! In the end, I guarantee you (and from what I've read on other reviews) they have a practice of maximizing their return at every moment possible. I paid my deposit the night before and I paid 2 hours after the work was confirmed done. I'm a person of my word and I did everything in my own to keep things on track. In the end though I couldn't believe the amounts being thrown at me when I could easily discern the value of the work. Aside from what I thought T-ROC was trying to make on their ridiculous margins, the quality of work WAS at the level I needed it to be at. In the end the labourers ended up being the saving grace of the project and avoiding a complete and utter travesty of a situation. This is all unfortunate because the trade labourers are hard working and great fellows. Their bosses however prove to be unethical to the point that their tactics felt predatory. I hope everyone considering hiring them thinks twice or definitely make sure you get at least 3 other estimates to gauge how far off T-ROCs pricing actually is. Hope this team turns their methods around. Good business is about providing a quality service and being recognised for it. These guys have their priorities in the wrong place. Very unfortunate. Best of luck though. Also when I mentioned that I'd be posting a negative review, I was laughed at and told sarcastically they were so scared of what I had to write.

After a year of planning our fairly significant renovation, we engaged with a contractor to begin work in Sept 2017. After a short time, we expressed concern with the progress made as well as, the workmanship and quality with parts of the renovation. After enlisting the help of Perry (President, TROC) and Todd (Project Manager, TROC, York North branch) with wanting to make our renovation “right”, we engaged with this team to continue completing our renovation. From the get go, they were focused on us, the customer and our expectations, and immediately put our minds to ease. They executed on the plan, maintained regular communications, and said and completed what they claimed they would. A special mention needs to also go to John, who corrected many mistakes that were made with the previous contractor and his workmanship and quality is bar none. We were also very pleased with Dan and the other trades that were brought in to complete our renovation. We are tremendously grateful to Perry, Todd, and team for resurrecting our renovation and for helping us realize our vision. We couldn’t be happier and would not hesitate to use this team (TROC, York North branch) again or to recommend to family and friends.

The only reason this review is not 5 stars, is because it didn't start off right. Everywhere you go, there is a bad seed and unfortunately our first site super was a nightmare. But the sign of a good company is not necessarily all the good they can do, but how they handle the bad. Perry took responsibility for his employee and we were able to work things out. We were then assigned Dennis, who we now consider a friend. Thanks to Dennis and TROC we are now living in our dream home. I wish I could post more than 4 pictures! Dennis made everything wrong into a right. Anyone who hires Dennis/TROC should feel secure that they will be taken care of.

We are only part way through our renovation so far, but wanted to write a review of T-ROC at this phase of the project in recognition of how pleased we've been with their services up to this point. Our renovation turned from something that seemed fairly simple and straightforward to a situation that required significant structural work that was not caught during our home inspection and was totally unexpected. Rob and Jesse have worked tirelessly (and I'm not exaggerating when I say tirelessly) to keep our project moving forward despite the hurdles we've encountered. They have gone above and beyond to ensure that we are getting the best value for our money for our project that has more than doubled in budget. At this stage in the project there are a few things that we really appreciate about T-ROC and their process. The project is left very organized and tidy at each stage of the project. Rob and Jesse have been 100% available any time of day or night to respond to any questions or issues that have cropped up. We have never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a response to a text message or phone call. They are always willing to meet us on-site to discuss ideas and logistics. Additionally, we really like the transparent T-ROC process of breaking down the project into smaller pieces (i.e. electrical, plumbing, demolition, drywalling, etc.) and obtaining quotes from various sub-contractors for each piece of the project so we can ensure we are getting the best value and quality for each trade that they are bringing in. We can't wait to see how our project turns out and look forward to finishing this review in a few months!
