Rice Residential Design

Unfortunately, our experience was not the best with building a custom home. We didn’t have much knowledge about the building process but now realize we didn’t get the guidance we would have liked from Todd Design especially regarding the upstairs .For a $1.2 million home we wanted and expected more. The only 3D visual that was shown to us for the downstairs foyer, living room and kitchen. It did not preview any of the rooms and it never showed us upstairs. Our builder had to point out that our front door was not centered like they are generally- and they worked with us to redraw and basically redid some of Rice’s work. While we like the home, we wish we could live it more. We just had an overall vision of something different for a custom home and felt like too many revisions would end up costing more and more so we felt we had to settle. We were hoping Todd’s role would include acting as an advisor as well, but we will be better prepared next time. With technology as forward thinking as it is, we also hoped to have one or two sessions virtual, but they were not that accommodating.

We have used Rice Residential Design twice now and I must say that Todd Rice was a joy to work with! He took the time to listen to our requirements and worked hard to incorporate functionality with style. He also has a fantastic team - highly responsive and always on track with deadlines. I had the pleasure of working with Todd Rice on the design of my new home. Todd is an incredibly talented architect and a true master of floor plan layout and elevation design. Todd involved me throughout every step of the design, and I enjoyed all the brainstorming discussions with him. His communication was clear and left no room for guessing. That made his design meetings very productive, I really appreciate that. Todd is a problem solver, and he doesn't give up until a solution is found. One particular instance that stands out to me was when construction had a structural beam blocked the path of an upstairs drainpipe. I reported the issue back to both structural engineer and Todd. Even though this was not Todd's fault, Todd reviewed the pictures I sent and worked with me to revise the arrangement of the upstairs bathroom to enable the reroute of the drain. He stopped by later that week to check it onsite. I really enjoyed working with Todd and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

Todd Rice and his incredible staff have designed the house of our dreams. Their brilliant unique ideas and attention to detail are bar none! They managed to incorporate everything we wanted while paying attention to our list of concerns/wants/needs. Watching Todd sketch out your home and bring it to life is a once in a lifetime experience worth every penny.

It has been a pleasure working with Todd, Sydney and his team. In our case, my wife and I came with a pretty good idea of what we wanted to build, at least as far as the floor plan goes. Todd turned it into architecture with attention to how it will look on all fours sides, not just from the street, as well as the interior environment we were creating! We are very pleased with how the design has turned out! I am also pleased with the thoroughness of the documents! One of our criteria for engagement was that we end with a set of documents that will minimize the number of change orders and surprises in the field. I believe the set of construction documents that Todd's team created is very complete and coordinated. My wife and I also appreciate the network of professionals with which Todd works, including interior designers, engineers and general contractors. We anticipate that the construction process will be as successful as the design process has been.

Todd Rice and Rice Residential did an incredible job designing our new home! From start to finish, he was able to come up with a plan which precisely converted our sometimes disjointed ideas and requirements into a perfect plan. Todd and our interior designer and our builder complimented each other as they tweaked and fine tuned the plan—they all spoke the same language and came up with an efficient plan! We have worked with architects before, but never have we been so very pleased with the process and our final plan—we wouldn’t use anyone else!
