I can’t say enough good things about Steve Schmidt Construction. Our custom home was finished ahead of schedule and under budget! The communication was outstanding; our questions were answered very promptly. Steve worked to seek out solutions to try to give us everything we wanted in our new home. Emily was amazing at changing the floorplan, laying out the cabinets and helping with design decisions. This was the third house that we have built, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Even after living in the house for over a year, our questions are still answered in a timely manner. I’ve been extremely well satisfied and would highly recommend Steve Schmidt Construction.

We bought a farm house, which was built in the late 1800's. We knew we needed a firm that could deal with any surprises that might come up during construction. We had the best experience with Schmidt Homes. All of the subcontractors were professional and friendly and cleaned up after themselves. The job came in under budget and on time. The designer, Emily, gave us good direction and we love the results. We would highly recommend Schmidt Homes Remodeling.

After debating for 5 years about whether to build a “senior friendly” (wide doors and all necessities on the main floor) new home, we finally decided building was the best option as we near retirement. We had rented a beautiful home with a loft when we were on a vacation trip out West, and wanted our “dream home” patterned after that vacation home. We found a floor plan on a website that was similar to what we were looking for, and contacted several home builders to ask if they were able and interested in building this home for us. After meeting with each builder, reading reviews and talking to friends connected to the building trade, we chose Schmidt Homes to build our new house. Steve Schmidt is very patient, detailed and comprehensive in explaining cost, options, what to expect, and how many times we will meet to finalize decisions. This was our first (and probably only) new construction house, so we had a lot to learn. After we tweaked the floor plan, Steve sent it to his architect for the complete plan, and excavation was ready to begin. The Schmidt team started moving dirt in early December, and the final inspection and our final walk-thru was in early June – pretty much right on schedule! The four qualities that were important to us in the building of our home include: quality of products & workmanship; design that reflects our rural MN prairie site; functionality of all aspects of our home; and of course, staying within the budget we outlined. Steve and his team asked the questions to really understand who we are and what we wanted in our new home – and ensured that our new home reflected our needs and preferences. Steve, Emily, Sara and the Schmidt team were good communicators, keeping us informed on progress, and also on when we needed to make selection decisions on siding, lighting, plumbing, countertops, etc. They were detail-oriented, ensuring everything would look like it was designed to fit together. Did everything come together without a single problem? Of course not. In our experience, even a holiday dinner usually has an issue or two, so obviously a project with the magnitude of building a new house will have a few problems arise. Similar to working at a large company, you always want to have people with problem-solving skills on your team. And Steve, Emily (Designer), and the team are problem-solvers – if they don’t have the answer, they reach out to colleagues with specific expertise and get the answer. We love our new home. We get many compliments – and we expect that friends will politely say nice things. It really amazed me when a UPS delivery driver stopped recently, rang the doorbell as he dropped off our package, and quickly headed back to his truck. I opened our door, and called out a “thank you”. Even in his haste, the driver spun around and called back, “You have a beautiful home!” That warmed my heart. Thank you to Schmidt Homes!

This was a custom house design originated by owners, and the building site was challenging to say the least. Steve, Emily, and Schmidt Construction did a great job translating the ideas of owners into a workable blueprint, and were very creative in solving difficulties along the way. Both Steve and Emily listen very well to potential builders. While the project bid was slightly higher that we had hoped, we were willing to pay this to get the level of expertise we needed and the quality of build we wanted. AND Schmidt Construction stayed within the estimate! Steve has great attention to detail and made sure subs provided highest quality of work. Project ALMOST finished on time; delays largely due to weather and resultant compromised site access. Great group of people to work with and very professional. We are exceedingly pleased with the completed home. Thanks!

We recently worked with Schmidt Homes on a full kitchen remodel and could not be happier with he result. They were very responsive and detail oriented. Also, their design services educated us on innovative approachs which were new to us but fit within our budget. We would highly recommend them and plan to use them for future projects.

Schmidt Homes Remodeling completed a large renovation on a 1886 farmhouse for a client of ours. From the very first meeting we were extremely impressed with Schmidt Homes high level of detail, prompt manner and detailed bid. I couldn't be happier with my new kitchen! From the beginning consultation to the final walk-through, I have only praise for the many professionals who worked on my project. Greg, the project manager, checked in often to look over the progress being made. Emily, the designer, immediately understood the look I was going for and her vision was perfect. Schmidt carpenters were skilled, subcontractors were top-notch and all were eager to make sure that I was happy with their work. Here's just one example of why I give Schmidt Homes Remodeling 5 stars -- We ran into a snag when a load-bearing beam was uncovered in a soffit that I wanted removed. Within 24 hours, Emily presented me with 3 options for adjusting the design. I made my choice, new plans were drawn up and work continued without affecting our schedule. I love my kitchen and recommend Schmidt Homes Remodeling without hesitation!

Working with Schmidt Homes while remodeling our kitchen, bathroom, and updating our upper level was a wonderful experience! From my first meeting with Emily, our design consultant, I was confident that our project would turn out better than imagined. Emily took my ideas, added her creativity and highly skilled talent, and worked a design that maximized functionality, storage, and aesthetics. It was a fun and exciting process watching the design evolve. The entire team had input into the final design which I feel made it turn out so well! Greg was our general contractor and site manager. He was timely, well organized, and prompt to responded to any concerns or questions we had throughout our project. He kept our project on budget and up to date. Greg checked in daily to make sure the project was progressing as scheduled and that all subcontractors were completing work as scheduled. The project started on time and was completed earlier than the projected end date. The carpenters were well skilled, neat and left the work area clean and organized every night. The painters, electricians and plumbers were timely in completing their work and responded to any questions or concerns promptly. We're thrilled with our finished project and would highly recommend Schmidt Homes Remodeling!!

Superior quality and workmanship. After researching several contractors in the area and hearing only positives for Schmidt Homes, I contracted them to build my new home. The entire building process flowed seamlessly and I honestly can not think of one negative in regards to working with Steve Schmidt, his design consultant Emily Custard or any of the staff or crew at Schmidt Homes. It was all very well organized. The project was broken down in segments and we met weekly to discuss what was coming up and how soon decisions needed to be made. I never once felt overwhelmed with decisions. It all went like clockwork. Emily is very creative and always gave me several good color or design options to choose from. She is fun and easy to work with. Steve can definitely think outside the box. When I found reclaimed hand hewn barn beams and wanted them in the ceiling he made it happen. And they look fabulous. The work crew are all courteous and do meticulous work. I highly recommend them.

We were delighted with our two remodel projects. We did our kitchen first, and then the laundry room. Emily Custard was a pleasure to work with from the initial conversations to finalizing the design and details. We had some definite ideas, but she really helped us pull everything together, and walked us through the process step by step. The quality of the work was very good, and the work crew kept things very tidy, even while our daily routine was disrupted by the construction. Greg Schmidt kept us informed about the work schedule, and was responsive to our concerns. The projects were both completed on time, and the customer service was excellent.
