Wiley and his team do excellent work. They are conscientious, friendly, and extremely creative. My only complaint was the time it took to finish the job. If time is not a factor for your project, I would highly recommend Wiley and his team. I gave a 4 Star rating because of the time it took to complete the work.

Modern Craft Construction - new home design, build & finish 2016 to 2017 in Forest Hills, Dallas. Wiley Gilliam & Team. First and most important is the fact that Wiley is one of the most principled and honest people that I have ever met. He always, always did the right thing during our project. He is utterly trustworthy - and a prince of a guy. Second - Wiley has a wonderful design aesthetic and eye for detail. He comes equipped with a proven history of beautifully executed projects that reflect the best in contemporary form, function and performance. I was also really impressed by the way in which Wiley incorporates and refines owner inspired concepts. He listens carefully, never shuts any ideas down - and always came back with a way to respond to our wishes - turning even the most impractical whim into a workable and practical plan. Wiley designed us several unique features for our home - both structural and cosmetic - including catwalk, wine room and mezzanine loft spaces. Third - He stretched our budget to the maximum extent possible and helped us to make compromises that did not impact the eventual function or beauty of our home. He also stood firm on items that were either necessary or became part of the personality of our home Finally - he has a commitment to quality and finish that is obvious and visible. This is communicated to all of his crew and contractors. Looking back - I would have liked more visibility into precise timelines. But I wouldn't trade our house for a shorter project delivery. I would commission Wiley and Modern Craft again without question.

We hired Wiley and his team for a remodel + addition. To provide a sense of the project scope, we went from approx. 1000 sq. ft., single story, to approx. 1700 sq. ft., two stories. We took the interior to the studs, moved walls, completely re-did kitchen/bath, and added a master bed/bath upstairs. The project was hugely personal, as the house has been in the family for several generations (in fact for the home's entire life). We had never done anything like this, and as a result, we spent a LOT of time (over a year) working with Wiley on the design. We wanted to ensure that aspects of the original house's character remained while also updating it to reflect a slightly more modern aesthetic/functionality. It was a very challenging project, not without its hiccups, but ultimately we are extremely pleased with the end result. Wiley and his team are all extremely professional, honest and clearly committed to quality. Changes were handled in a largely agile and transparent fashion. My biggest complaint would be that there were several long periods of downtime during the course of the project; I believe this was a result of their taking on more than they were able to handle in a timely manner. (And to be completely fair, in a couple of instances these delays were the result of decisions that we needed to make. In these cases, Wiley was patient with us and answered all of our questions, enabling us to make the best choices.) Despite the delays, the quality of work in no way suffered. Friends that are knowledgeable of construction practices have all commented on the quality of the workmanship upon seeing the end results. And most importantly, we love it here and feel very much at home.

Wiley Gilliam and the professional team at Modern Craft provided high quality design and craftsmanship in my recent kitchen remodel. We could not be more happy with their attention to detail and the final results. We highly recommend Modern Craft.

Working with Wiley has been an incredible adventure. My husband and I wanted to buy and renovate a home. I called several builders and contractors to get quotes. Some of those I called wouldn't even meet me because of the scope of the project and the budget I had in mind. Wiley, above everyone else, came with an open mind, enthusiasm and genuine interest in making my vision work. We never bought that initial home. Luckily, we found a plot and had Wiley build us a brand new, modern home. And I love my house. Like looovvee, my house. Strangers love my house. I get stopped in the street by passer-bys and get asked or complimented for it. It's amazing. It's better than my initial vision. The collaboration, exchange of ideas, innovative material choices and design aesthetic all surpassed my expectation. I would, most heartily, build another house with Wiley. Now I'm not gonna lie, there were a few bumps in the road. This is the first time we ever built a custom home but Wiley got us thru with his professionalism, enthusiasm and most importantly, honesty. His company is small and they're going thru some growing pains, so his scheduling needs improvement, but from start to finish, we were in our home in 15 months. There are many positive aspects to working with Wiley. Boutique builder, closer collaboration, easy access to Wiley, immediate response to calls before, during and after the project, solid construction, exacting design aesthetic. I could go on. The only negative I have is scheduling. His company is small. They do damn good work, but there aren't a lot of them. So expect delays (especially with Dallas weather) and build it into your schedule. Not just the schedule Wiley gives you but the schedule and expectation you have in your head about when things should get done. We learned that the initial stages goes really fast - demo, foundation, framing, plumping, electrical all the things that make a house tick. But the interior finishes take ages. And because you can see the home coming together, your excitement builds - alongside of your impatience. Interior finishes take an age and because we had so much custom work done, (such as, having Wiley preserve original cedar siding from the existing home to rework as sliding barn doors for the new build), it felt like we should have already been moved in. So our lesson - interiors take forever - but they should if you want quality work done. Just remember to build it into your expectations. But if you want to call and harass Wiley about it, he'll take it in stride, explain the process and try and hurry along what he can, the best he can. (Because we did that, too) In the end, Wiley built us the house we never thought we could have, for a little over the budget we expected (i.e., we added on a lot of custom storage and opted to grade the plot against any possible future flooding) and around the timeframe we wanted. Quite simply, Wiley is an honest, fair and upright guy. He has vision, work ethic and genuine interest in providing the best he can. What else can you ask for?

We started working with Modern Craft a year before building our home. Wiley met us weekly then monthly until we had nailed down a pretty good idea of what we wanted in our forever "dream" home. Owner Wiley's insight on both the DESIGN and the BUILDING process (cost of materials, eye for style, etc) was unbelievable. The ONLY non-custom/made on site items in our ENTIRE home are the island glass pendants (and obviously light bulbs, fans, etc)! Truly I was able to change little and sometimes large details on the home design while in process because this company has the ability and know-how to create tangible products from the conception process with the ease of true design professionals! We felt like we became family in the last 2 years because Wiley really listened to every desire and helped bring out ideas we never could have on our own! We have been in the home for a week now and could not be any happier. We feel like there was not one leaf left unturned.

Wiley went above and beyond when designing our dream home. He took my binder of a million ideas and created the perfect home for my family. He even made changes to the 3D plans after the fact when I wanted to visualize a different stone. Wiley is professional and yet he still managed to let one of my 2 yr old twins sit in his lap and play architect while we were designing once......and to a mother, this was amazing because we often feel as if our kids drive others crazy.

Wiley is a wonderful person to work with. He is an honest, good person. We finally decided on this last design but Wiley patiently worked through other design ideas for quite some time until we were happy. The name of his company stands true. We were not interested in seeing things explode upward where quality could be compromised. This company pays attention to detail and produces a high quality product. They work hard to get it right, and if it's not, they do it again until the client and Wiley are happy. His crew is top notch. The woodwork done on our complicated ceilings and bathroom is impeccable and the tile work is beyond artful. They were all neat, courteous and did very high quality work. Design/build is the way to go in my opinion as there is a consistent vested interest in both design AND construction. We are VERY happy with what Modern Craft left us with. We live in an artfully constructed home! I will not hesitate to call Wiley when we are ready for our full kitchen remodel.

We hired Wiley and Modern Craft team to add 2,000 square ft to our 1970's ranch style home. No easy feet for sure. I was wowed by his creativity, design and excellent problem solving skills. He took the time to really listen to us during our long planning meetings. His teams work is impeccable. They all strive for perfection, if they don't get it the first go around they do it over until its right. It's great to know that everyone who shows up at your house works directly for Modern Craft or is a sub that they use all the time, they also know what is expected of them. Having Wiley as the designer, builder and construction manager really eliminates any confusion and streamlines the process. Most of the issues that happened during the build Wiley corrected before we even knew they were a problem. As far as finishing the project on-time goes, we ran into problems with the city we live in so it's not really fair to judge him in that regard. He is very busy, so communication is occasionally a little rough. I found that most of the time though he was handling the problem already and just hadn't gotten back to me yet. I can be a little high strung and I needed someone calm and compassionate like Wiley to get me through the long process of house building. We are so happy with our amazing house, it's more than we could have imagined. Wiley really is a blessing, we feel so lucky to have been able to work with him. He is now an honorary member of our crazy family. We would hire him again in a heartbeat.
