Judd Builders

My wife and I worked with John Sr, his son, and staff to build a semi-custom home for us. Although the cost and availability of land precluded us from entering into a contract with Judd Builders, the time they spent with us + their building process were exceptional, professional, and always helpful. We recommend Judd Builders as a first stop for building needs in the Asheville area.

We've been in our home for 9 years. We're still very happy with it. It's everything we wanted. We love being here. But there was one very difficult problem. That problem demonstrates John Judd's dedication and the honor of his word. After living in the house for a few years, the remnants of a hurricane came through the area, bringing prolonged strong winds and heavy rain. We discovered a leak when our Master Bedroom ceiling sheetrock developed a wet spot. We traced the water to an attic. It was coming from somewhere around the chimney. John assured us he would fix it. John's team found a spot which might have been the problem and repaired it. They also repaired the bedroom sheetrock. We thought it was done. A couple of years later, another bad storm with long-lasting, heavy, wind-driven rain, water in the attic. Apparently the prior suspect was not the problem. John again assured us he would find the problem and fix it. Despite his people spending days searching inside and out of the entire chimney and the surrounding roof, no one found anything to cause a leak. John also called in three of the better area roofing contractors to search. They didn't find it. Thinking it might be an unlikely cause of water seeping through the mortar between the bricks, he sprayed the entire chimney to seal it. Well, another storm a couple of years later. But John wasn't going to let this get the better of him. He removed all the chimney bricks, sealed it again, and covered it with rock. He had the chimney flashing replaced and expanded plus the entire roof on that side of the house de-shingled, inspected, and covered with new shingles. During that process, they found no evidence of the leak origin. But we've had no water in the attic since. I cannot speak highly enough for John Judd and his company. They spent LOTS of money to resolve our roof problem. But that's the way John is. When he gives his word, he stands by it. Comparing our warranty work experience on this house with previous new homes I've bought, we had problems getting even simple warranty work done. In one, we had to threaten taking the builder to court to get a significant problem fixed. The typical homebuilder may warrant items for a year or so. I've never heard of anyone whose builder continued to work on a long-term problem until it was resolved - 7 years in our case. To deal with a leak after so much time, a typical or even good builder would likely say it's the homeowner's responsibility. I dare anyone to produce another builder who would voluntarily go to that effort in fixing our problem. It took a lot of patience on our part, but we had confidence that John would keep working the problem until it was resolved. Another important aspect is John's continuing support. I can call him with any question about the house. He'll answer it or help where he can. If I were to rank John on a scale from 1 to 5, I'd give him a 10 without hesitation. In my opinion, John Judd is clearly the best.

We purchased a new home where Judd was the builder. The quality was top notch in every aspect. There were a few items that we needed help with and they were always super responsive and helped resolve the issues immediately. Great customer service and very skilled at everything they do. Very highly recommend!

Judd Builders recently completed a large scale remodel on our home and their work was nothing short of stellar. From the beginning, Judd Builders were very customer focused and professional. John and his team did an amazing job on my custom home in Bristol , Tennessee. There are many impressive homes in this development and the consensus is that the home built by the Judds is easily the most beautiful. From first meeting to the final touches on our remodel, Judd Builders were stellar! Jerry Banks, the lead contractor, kept us in the loop at all times via email, photos, texts while we were at work/out of town. His timely orchestration of the entire project... Coordination of specialized teams, working around rain delays. Inspections, and any changes we (I) made, etc., was done with genuine thought and care. Jerry’s input and design modification suggestions were succinct and wise. Every detail of our front porch remodel from stonework, fireplace with chimney, cedar beams, tongue and groove ceiling, flooring, stucco, lighting and even a new roof (last minute decision, roofers arrived next day) was done seamlessly. -Customer Service never compromised. -Service before self....always. -Judd Builders have an amazing crew (professional, pleasant, focused on job at hand). -Specialized hired tradesmen were handpicked to work for Judd Builders. -Confident and proud to stand behind their work. Since completion of our front porch (“living room”), we’ve had tons of inquiries from neighbors and friends and have referred them on to Judd. We could not have picked a better company than Judd Builders for an extensive renovation on an old condo we bought. The place was completely gutted and transformed. While it took longer and cost more than we had originally planned, we could not be happier with the final results. Despite ours being a renovation and not an elaborate new construction, John Judd was with us every step of the way. His thoughts and suggestions helped make our new home something really special and all who have seen it have raved about it. All of the work was top notch and no short cuts taken. All of his workers were very helpful and friendly anytime we needed something. Any problems we had after moving in, which were very few, John took care of immediately, even if they really weren't his responsibility. We trusted John and his crew to make decisions for us at times since we were living 400 miles away and only visited periodically. We have not looked at one thing that we would have done differently and are excited to spend our remaining days in this beautiful "new" home.

I wish I could give JUDD Builders 6 stars! In 2017, when we were concluding a 5-1/2 year, 7 state search for a new retirement home, we narrowed it down to searching for home builders in Asheville, NC and Buncombe County. Ultimately we decided on a custom home in Black Mountain, Arts & Crafts, identified two possibilities by location and selected Judd Builders. Over our lifetime, we have built several custom homes in NY, FL and owned 10 homes in 5 states. Judd won, exceeding our expectations, and here is why: Locally owned - Family operated, Values their reputation for being best in class with action, not just words! Something we did not experience from others. Design - 2 story, efficient to heat / cool / maintain. Floor plan - open space, high ceilings, efficient use of square footage on a low maintenance small lot, excellent site preparation and landscaping, finished 2 car garage. Workmanship - fit and finish excellent. Quality and uniqueness of materials - Red Oak flooring, beautiful cabinets, energy efficient heat pump. appliances, lights, windows, etc etc.. Responsiveness after the sale, Judd and their subs take pride in their workmanship / materials and readily adjusted some very minor issues we encountered.
