I really can not recommend Emily Pinney and Pinney Designs more enthusiastically! From start to finish, working with Emily and her team was an incredibly positive experience and we are absolutely overjoyed with the results. See some examples of Emily's work on our house at http://pinneydesigns.com/index.php?id=arlington
We hired Emily to help us with the design elements associated with a house we built in Arlington, MA over the last year. As we built the house from the ground up and had Emily involved from the very beginning, not only did she help us pick out beautiful plumbing fixtures, tiles, floors, lighting, etc, she was also instrumental in working with the architect and builder to design the entire kitchen, ensure optimal placement of windows, doors, fixtures, appliances, etc, etc, etc. In other words, her work went way beyond the beautiful interior design decisions she helped us make and she really became a project manager that I came to rely upon enormously. That became even more true when we unexpectedly moved overseas halfway through the project and Emily took on even more responsibility for ensuring the smooth completion of the project. Her extensive experience in working with contractors, tradespeople and other vendors and ability to speak their language and know when to push was invaluable to us and not only saved us time and money but resulted in a much better final product.
Of the many reasons why I have loved working with Emily the most important are probably her professionalism and proactiveness. I trust Emily completely as she always acts with the utmost integrity and honesty which, given the very large scope of the project we worked on together was very important to me (and which can sometimes be sadly lacking). She runs her business in an extremely organized and professional way and was always very proactive, accessible, and a great communicator. Emily always went out of her way to proactively research less expensive and/or higher quality options for me to choose from. This extra effort benefitted ME, not her, and I was always impressed by her willingness, selflessness and enthusiasm in going the extra mile.
Finally, Emily was always a fantastic listener and struck a really great balance between truly listening to me and incorporating my ideas, while at the same time saving me from myself in some cases by overriding those ideas with her own considerable expertise. She deftly walks the fine line between incorporating the client's crazy ideas and making sure the final product benefits from her design knowledge. I never felt like Emily was trying to force her own personal style into our house (even though I wouldn't have minded since she has such a great eye), but rather that she took the time to get to know me so that she could help me make the most of my own personal tastes. Emily's collaborative style is one that worked really, really well for us.
We are looking forward to continuing to work with Emily when we return from overseas next year to finish off the remaining interior design elements of the house. Already her ideas for furniture, colors, etc are beautiful and incorporate her great personal style, eye for details, and surprisingly astute understanding of what appeals to me. Emily is a pleasure to work with and I look forward to having a relationship with her for a long time to come!
