Alexander D. Latham III Architecture

Our project: a 1940 house, remove all interiors to studs and most of exterior--it was a big undertaking. We worked with Alex in designing our make-over for the house. We were downsizing and wanted a smaller house within walking distance to the Huntington Village. We found the house but it needed quite a lot of work to suit us. Alex patiently worked with us to come up with a plan that would suit us as we approach our 70's. It also needed to be suited to the neighborhood and to suit our budget. He listened to us and he went back to the drawing board when necessary--many, many times without complaining. He had a vision for what would work for us over and above what we could imagine ourselves. All his plans were approved by the Town. The house is still under construction, but we are able to see that Alex's plan will work very well for us. Would we recommend Alex? YES! and YES!

I would highly recommend Alexander Latham for any architectural needs. He is very easy to talk to and collaborate ideas with. We have used him for several projects and at the end I am always please to see that he understood my vision and was able to execute it on paper. That is a true skill. He was patient and easy to contact. Even the contractors that we hired were complementary to his drawing. He understands the in's and out's of planning a structure and balancing it with the existing one. For Alex it is not about the specific area he is working up for you, but takes into account the entire environment and community.

I am an interior designer who has had the pleasure of knowing Alex for many years. Recently, I have been collaborating with Alex on the construction and design of a new modern home. Alex is a very talented and professional architect. He is very responsive to any issues that inevitably come up in the design process. It is great to be able to collaborate with a design professional such as Alex who makes the entire project run more smoothly. Alex is highly regarded by his clients and myself for his innovative ideas and knowledge. I highly recommend Alex as an architect and designer.

My husband and I are currently working through the planning stages of renovations for a new home with Alex Latham of ADLIII Architecture. We spent 35 years living and raising a family in our current home. Certainly, we expected that the renovation process would have us making a list of things we wanted to include in our new home. What surprised us, though, was becoming aware of the many things we’d become accustomed to in our current home that we wanted to include on that list as well. We’re grateful that Alex “got it.” He has put tremendous effort into integrating those wants from the past and for the future into the spaces he's designing for our new home. It was very clear to us from the beginning that our feelings take precedence over Alex’s personal vision of what our house should look like. He has not one shred of attitude and has graciously worked, and reworked, spaces until they feel right to us. He gives great thought to the use of materials and the efficiency of layouts, and has a very intuitive sense of space and balance. When you couple all that with his great sense of humor, patience, and willingness to listen, it’s an unbeatable combination! We know our home will not only be beautiful, but it will undoubtedly meet our needs for the next 35 years!

My wife and I hired ADL to completely renovate our Beach House in Remsenburg, New York. The job was especially difficult because of our budget, coupled with my wife's expensive (and often changing) taste. Furthermore, since we kept the existing house, which was built in the 70's, Alex of ADL had to work around the existing structure. He completely changed the 70's style of the house to the style we wanted. Alex prepared a very reasonable Contract that charged by stages of work, rather than by the hour. He spent a tremendous amount of time meeting with us, but more importantly, listening to us. He understood what we wanted and prepared the plan accordingly. His creativity and knowledge are making the house of our dreams a reality. He has been and continues to be a pleasure to work with.

I am a landscape designer and have worked together with Alex for quite a few years. When it came time to design my new home, I knew exactly where to go. Alex is extremely talented. I would highly recommend him and his company. I love my home and feel lucky to have had him as my architect.

Alex Latham is the best! Alex helped create a completely new design for our home from the ground up. Alex listened and helped incorporate the original feel of the home we first fell in love with. The design process was simple and informative as Alex easily guided us through. Alex provided several unique ideas during the process, all leading to a useful and impactful space. There is not a single person who is not enamored by our home and all of the design elements. There is no one else I would call for helping us design and layout a space. Alex simply gets it, and provides great customer service combined with a gift for creating stellar designs.

We hired ADL III to design an addition for our 1930's home in the HBCA neighborhood of Centerport NY. We needed to update and enlarge our existing galley kitchen and also add a bedroom for our daughter upstairs. We were concerned that adding to an older house we might lose some of the old charm to our beach cottage. My wife and I couldn't be happier with the results. Alex did an outstanding job solving any issues, procuring permits and working with our contractor. Most of all Alex came up with a design that we love and fits in perfect with our house and community.

Alex Latham demonstrated a wonderful sense of style and taste covering a wide design spectrum while doing our project. He was always very attentive to our needs and personal tastes. Alex is very traditional in his work in that his artistic renderings of the project were done by hand, enhanced with water colors. This approach gave a nice sense of warmth and depth to his work as opposed to the computer generated material produced by most architects. Overall, I was very pleased with his performance.

My wife and I interviewed Alex for the design and construction supervision of a waterfront beach house project in Eatons Neck NY. Alex is a "local,": and he understood the community and our desire to create a structure that would blend in with the surrounding property. We asked him to work with all natural materials in order to create a warm environment that would have a lived in look for many years. He was wonderful. He presented us with numerous ideas, he really made an effort to understand our desires, and he created a project which made us feel like it was ours. He assisted us in selecting a contractor, and that too worked out well. Alex is a knowledgeable and creative architect who helped us bring our dream to life. Doug Grover

We initially hired Alex to design a very major renovation to our water front home, after looking for comment from contractors it was decided that the original structure should be torn down and fully rebuilt. Alex then designed the new house from scratch - taking the best aspects of the original, our input, and his inspiration. Due to hurricanes and realities of life, this total process (design and construction) took almost four years. Alex is is wonderful to work with - open, upfront, respectful (even of "brainstorm" ideas!), experienced, and calm. And none of that talks to his outstanding design ability and sense of scale. Additionally, Alex has been around for awhile and knows many outstanding tradesmen so he can bring the skill required (his design and their construction) to deliver any project. He has done projects ranging from tens of millions of dollars (absolutely gorgeous - I have seen them!) to several thousands of dollars (done with the same acumen and attention to detail - I have seen them also); ours was large, but somewhere in the middle. I couldn't recommend Alex more. We have recommended him to friends and we would definitely use him again.

My wife and I hired Alex Latham to design my dream home on the bay in Northport, NY. We knocked down our former home and Alex designed what I believe is the nicest home in Northport, which takes advantage of western water views and a 270 degree panoramic view. Alex designed an incredible classic shingle style home for my family of 5. It is original, unique, and special. His creativity and pragmatism combined to make a functional, warm and cozy large house, not easy to achieve. I would hire Alex again in a heartbeat when I build my next house! Sincerely, Joe Willen

We worked with Alex for approx. 2 years on our project which was just completed in July 2013. We own an 1875 Carriage House that we were looking to update, renovate and expand to modern specifications. From start to finish I felt like our dream project was in good hands. We basically tore down 75% of the original structure, renovated the remaining 25% and expanded up adding a lot of second floor living space. We found it a pleasure to work with Alex and our builder found the same thing to be true. We would recommend ADL III highly. This project totaled approx. $600,000.
