My husband and I, along with our two large dogs, moved into a condo that needed extensive new cabinetry for storage, and for the kitchen to be gutted and replaced with something that actually worked for us. We contacted Jennifer on the recommendation of someone who had engaged her to assist in the renovation of their Mount Vernon home. Having seen for ourselves what Jennifer had accomplished with this home, and having heard from the homeowners about how wonderful she was to work with, we can say that Jennifer proceeded to surpass every expectation we had. Not once did we experience the negative aspects about working with contractors that one so often hears about. When Jennifer bid the job, she made it clear what it would cost and on what occasion (if we added on, or changed our minds) something might go over the bid, so we were never surprised by an unanticipated expense. Along with her contractor’s skill in the actual building part of work (either on her own, or with her subs), Jennifer has an excellent eye for design. It was great to work with someone who has such a breadth of skills and experience! She advised us on many things we might have overlooked, suggested some smart improvements, and helped us make what seemed like a million decisions. She showed up - every single time - when she said she would, she communicated fully throughout the entire process about everything that was going to happen, and she never left us wondering if we’d hear from her. She warned us about timing, she fully respected our design choices, she used excellent subcontractors (and when one fell a bit short, she negotiated a satisfactory outcome) and she gave us plenty of warning on when things would happen and how long they would take. In retrospect, I had no idea about how many moving pieces there were to a project, how much scheduling of so many people was involved, or how unanticipated adjustments had to be made without disrupting the work flow. Throughout, Jennifer was calm, reassuring, professional, and kind. We are just so very pleased with the work she did and the results we got. The quality is outstanding. Her professionalism is unparalleled. We could not recommend Jennifer more highly and do so utterly without reservation.

Jennifer is very gifted and multi-faceted. She built out a large unfinished storage area for us and turned it into a bedroom, media room, reading nook, kitchenette, pool table area and work-out section. She does much of the work herself and her subs are wonderful. Everything was on time and on budget. She is very amiable to her clients' opinions and desires and never seemed in a rush. I highly recommend Jennifer Ryan Design for your next project, big or small!

We engaged Jennifer Ryan Design a year ago after purchasing our dream retirement home--a large condo on waterfront. It was built--and stuck in--the early '90s. Jennifer really listened to our vision for a refresh on a budget. Our goal was to create a more contemporary and casual space, refined but fun, reflective of people and interests important to us. Jennifer fulfilled this beautifully, from her exquisite color and lighting choices, to incorporating a French family heirloom mirror in the powder room, to building a large kitchen banquette for family gatherings. She even supported our display of antique canoe paddles in the kitchen. Jennifer's hands-on expertise as both contractor and designer was evident in every step of the project and made things run very smoothly. We've been through two excellent home renovations in the past, and Jennifer Ryan Design met and exceeded our high expectations for communication, subcontractor choices, timeliness and attention to detail. The quality of her workmanship is outstanding. Her unique design sense/customer collaboration is pitch-perfect. Clean up? Impeccable. There are too many examples to recount, but we were constantly delighted: Removing artwork left above the mantle, we were dismayed to find unsightly electrical from a former TV, but Jennifer 'had a guy for that' and the stonework was quickly repaired. Plumbing work revealed water in expansion tanks (replaced) and water shutoff only accessible through narrow access in the garage shop ceiling (shutoff moved and now easily accessible at eye level in the garage shop closet). We thoroughly enjoyed our collaboration with Jennifer, and are honored to bring her back for a bath remodel in early 2026. We can't recommend her highly enough--except to keep her dance card available to us!

We asked Jennifer to help us update and increase the functionality of a nineties home (connected living, dining and kitchen) that was new to us. Jennifer has great design ideas, and has a wonderful ability to "hear" what we want even when we don't quite know how to express it. The project morphed in both aesthetic and function as we went through the design and budgeting process and we are so thrilled with the end result, even better than we imagined. Jennifer sees possibilities and she is cost effective in making them happen. She does a lot of the actual work and has deep contractor relationships who also do quality work. She is on site when anything is happening and she is meticulous! Timelines, budget, communication, cleanliness, all flawless. She helped us build knowledge and confidence in understanding and combining our own styles, because she could explain the "why" of whether something worked or not. We ended up with a home that feels like "us" and we love it!

My husband and I hired Jennifer Ryan Design to reimagine the master bathroom in our home in Bellingham, WA in 2022. The goal was to create a beautiful, spa-like experience we could enjoy every single day with updated fixtures, finishes, lighting, and every detail attended to in a world-class way. Ours is a large room that was very taste specific to the quirky desires of the original owner of the home who had it built 29 years ago. Jennifer had her work cut out for her to bring the space to 2023 design standards. Jennifer created a beautiful design, helped us choose and source the right materials, and she also collaborated beautifully with the contractor we engaged to bring her vision to life. Whenever the contractor had a question, Jennifer was responsive and offered stellar guidance. Her communication skills and attention to detail and timely follow up were and are excellent. Jennifer is very steady and calm, and her extensive experience working on big projects is an asset that brings value to the decision making process. Her fees are fair and she delivers the value at every turn. The contractor started demolition in February of 2022 and came to completion on the project in June of 2023. We could not be more delighted with the finished project and recommend her without hesitation. She is a total professional.

Jennifer took over the complete interior remodel of my 2500. sf Edgemoor house under somewhat difficult circumstances and did an outstanding job. When I first saw her bid, I thought it was a bit on the high side, but because Jennifer did not add charges for any of the tasks we added along the way, and in fact paid for things that I was sure I should have been billed for, and did not adjust her price for the Covid inflation of materials, her price turned out to be more than reasonable. And she and her crew did a fabulous job on all aspects of the remodel. Because I lived in another state, I let her make many of the day-to-day choices for me and now that I live with the results I wish I had let her make more of the decisions because I love every choice she made. Most contractors I work with aren't in sympathy with my minimalist taste but Jennifer somehow knew better than I did exactly what I wanted. Thank you Jennifer for creating a home I love!

Jennifer is exceptional in both her design and her project planning skills. She is an excellent communicator and problem-solver. She caught our vision and created design elements that spoke to what we desired in our home. She adds exciting features that challenge us to leap with non-ordinary classy and fun design elements ideas that make our home design unique. Jennifer makes a personal connection and takes an interest in what we want and who we are as people. We could not be happier with the outcome of our extensive remodel. After being so impressed with our kitchen remodel by Jennifer Ryan Design we knew she would be our choice for any other house project! She has recently completed her second project for us in which she remodeled a tiny powder room of ours and turned it into a gorgeous proper bathroom with a walk in shower. We’ve done 2 major projects with Jennifer now (and one small one) and I couldn’t be happier. She always takes whatever ideas I have and elevates them to the next level. She asks the right questions to curate a great selection of options to choose from, whether tile, paint colors, etc so it’s not overwhelming, and is honest about what she thinks will look good in the end. Completely professional, good communication during the projects, there is nobody else I would even consider going with. We bought a mid century that still has work to go, and will definitely schedule with her.

Jennifer Ryan helped us with all the rooms as we remodeled our new-to-us home. Her advice and good eye were so valuable and made it possible for us to turn an ordinary house into something special. Probably because she is a contractor as well as a designer, she worked flawlessly with our contractor. Her professional contacts came in handy. When large tiles for our master bath were delivered and most were broken, she made a call and in two days we had another delivery. There were so many things about Jennifer that I liked, one important thing being that she listened and she understood and respected my taste, even as she shaped my view of what was possible/useful/appealing. My husband and I wanted a home that was different and tasteful and personal and thanks to Jennifer that's what we have. She is a first-rate professional. Punctual. No drama. No unpleasant surprises. And she is charming and fun to work with.

Jennifer Ryan is a complete design/build remodeling contractor who really listens. We came to her to remodel the dysfunctional kitchen in our 1902 house; we wanted it up to today's standards but classically styled to look as if it belonged in an old house. She nailed it! It required gutting the entire space, raising the window sill height, opening the entry arch, moving plumbing, electrical, gas, etc. Quality materials, tile, cabinets, fixtures throughout. The whole process went smoothly and she made it fun.

Jennifer is simply awesome! I literally can’t say enough good things about her! My husband and I purchased a house built in 1929 which came with a small and very “dated” kitchen. I was disappointed that the kitchen didn’t have an entry way leading from the backdoor but Jennifer took care of that for me:) She took our little “dated”kitchen back to the studs and gave us the kitchen of our dreams. Not only is she amazing at what she does, she is professional, patient, trustworthy and so easy to work with. She also has a way of getting to know her client’s style in order to bring it to life. I was certainly impressed with her skill set and the amount of work she did herself! Also impressive were her team of sub-contractors she used for things like countertops , cabinetry, foundation etc. All were respectful, professional and always showed up when they said they would. Working with Jennifer was super easy… I gave her my general concept and she turned it into exactly what I had in mind. Professional at every step of the way, great communication, project completed in the timeframe we discussed, absolutely love the end result. Jennifer was our GC for our kitchen and most of our first floor and she exceeded our expectations! She is very easy to work with, a great communicator, has an excellent eye for design, and is willing to do what it takes to get things right (often rolling up her sleeves to get things done!). Jennifer quickly proved to be someone we could fully trust and always had our best interest in mind, which was critical since we were living across the country for most of the project. Jennifer did a terrific job, under some unusual circumstances, of pulling our condo together and creating a warm, friendly, contemporary home in northwest Washington including possibly the coolest guest bath/shower west of the Atlantic Ocean (photo below).

I needed quick design help in making decisions when remodeling my bayside condo. Jennifer readily appeared with flooring, tile and color samples. She had a stable of local businesses/craftsmen to call for countertops and carpentry. She worked in collaboration with my contractor assisting in moving the project efficiently to completion. Then, Jennifer returned to help arrange furniture and artwork placement. I have known Jennifer for many years. She is a delight to work with and takes the time to understand your likes and dislikes. I highly recommend her design service and hope she will work from afar on a Calimesa bungalow we’re in the process of purchasing.

Jennifer presented us with a nice design to update our 14 year old kitchen . Removing granite tile counters. Jennifer redesigned island,countertops, fixtures etc. Jennifer is hands on. Does a lot of work herself. She has an amazing group of professionals that handle electrical, plumbing, cabinetry install, drywall, countertops and hardwoods. They never left a mess behind. We are very proud to show off and cook in our updated kitchen. Jennifer is very good at integrating old and new so that it all looks cohesive. She is very open to your ideas and helps you see her vision. Love how she always adds something fun either with pattern or color. We feel like our whole kitchen got a facelift. Jennifer is a true professional, orchestrating the entire project while keeping the client informed. Jennifer has a unique style, combining modern finishes with historical style and function. Jennifer is very easy going and welcomes the client to speak up, share feedback, and incorporate their own expression in the overall design. Jennifer finished our basement creating a media room with wet bar, laundry and full bathroom. This was a funky space in an old home. Jennifer rolled with the challenges and even helped us take on some pieces to reduce costs and ultimately be involved in the project. We love our basement so much we are having Jennifer do our kitchen next!

We were having a new home built while we were still residing in another state. We had found a great building contractor and as the project was getting underway, there was no question we would also need a design expert to pull everything together with great finishes, fixtures, cabinets, etc... Jennifer immediately instilled a confidence in her abilities as a designer; she excellently communicated expectations and listened very carefully. I hired Jennifer Ryan Design to help me modernize a kitchen that was built in 1951 and lacked most everything a kitchen should have in 2016. My home is a small stick built war box in design with no frills. Existing hardwood floors were discovered during the demolition and were incorporated as part of the design with the final product exceeding expectations. Who doesn't love real hard wood flooring, really? It feels good to keep something that was original to the home. An industrial theme was used keeping in mind I wanted a more open room concept that flowed from the kitchen into the living of this small home. Jennifer Ryan Design created the open shelves concept along the window wall to help allow more natural light in and create the openness I was looking for. The size of the kitchen was never expanded but yet my cupboard space increased with new cabinetry, and modern appliances were added such as a dishwasher, new gas stove with downdraft ventilation, updated refrigerator all with stylish stainless steel finish. Jennifer's creativity and resourcefulness really shown through and example being the use of plumbing piping to help in supporting the open shelves and add to the industrial concept. The countertop, backsplash and lighting were all small elements in themselves but were the great finishing touches to the kitchen. I'm extremely happy with the new modern kitchen I have in my little war box home.

We were renovating our bathroom, but couldn't quite put the colors together. We contacted Jennifer through a web search to see what she could put together for us. The results were outstanding, so much so that we have hired her to design and contract for the rest of our home renovation.

Jennifer has worked on several projects for me over the years including: build-out for a 5,000sqft private performance and fitness studio, refinished hardwood floors and fireplace in my home living room, built a custom privacy fence to create a functional patio area in an otherwise unusable space... Each project was completed beyond my expectations. Jennifer is wonderful to work with and I wouldn't choose anyone else.

Jennifer completely redesigned my main bath and solved the problems that were involved with a 70's bath, partially textured walls, the long tunnel and the out dated shower. She worked her tail off and brought in the best, most respectful subs. Always cleaned up the surrounding project area EVERY afternoon, so the remodel drama level was at " 0 " for the whole house. She is the absolute best!!!!!

Jennifer Ryan is the ULTIMATE professional. She made absolutely the very best slipcovers for all my furniture. She was always on time with all aspects of her business. I watched her pick up a sofa with high-heel shoes without missing a beat. I have had many decorators in my 73 years, but never one that can compare to Jennifer! Hiring Jennifer Ryan to complete our bathroom project was a great choice! We had been struggling with DIY since the birth of our daughter, so we contacted Jennifer to help us out. She listened to our ideas and added to them with her creativity and experience. She is knowledgeable and a great resource for making decisions throughout the process. We live in a house built in 1895, so things don't always go as planned, but she lines out the facts so we can choose options that work best for our budget and preferences. I was impressed with her tile work and carpentry. Absolutely stunning. She is attentive to details, meticulous with the tedious tasks, efficient, and tidy. I appreciated that I didn't come home to a mess each day! She has high standards for craftsmanship and is someone I would recommend wholeheartedly to any friend, acquaintance or stranger!
