With a B.S. in Engineering Operations, Mark cut his professional teeth in new home construction both as a builder, then as a project manager. He was the vice president for another building company for seven years before founding MARK IV Builders in 1988. Combining his education and experience convinced Mark that design-build is the best process for larger, more complicated remodeling projects. Clients are always amazed at how closely his schedule and budget are adhered to. And they love that in addition to attending the planning meetings and several weekly meetings, Mark personally follows up on every project for the walk-through, 6-month, and 1-year follow-up. Mark IV is a top-notch residential building company. Mark and his talented team built a beautiful addition and renovation to our home. We had done our original renovation plans with another local builder who wound up being unreliable and difficult to work with. at the suggestion of our neighbors who had worked with Mark IV when they did their own home renovation, we reached out to them. Mark IV came to our rescue and made our home even more beautiful than we originally planned. Every single member of their staff is professional, skilled, easy to work and communicate with and generally just a wonderful bunch people. We loved all of our sub-contractors as well and will happily work with them all moving forward. The construction process was so easy for us (and we were dreading it). We could not be happier with the outcome.

We finished our beautiful renovation just a few months ago and I want to heartily endorse Mark IV. They did a terrific job. They started on time and ended on time. The work is very high quality. They were responsive to my questions and their advice was sound. We bumped out and update our kitchen and turned a screened porch in to a family room. We also updated two bathrooms. It was a pleasure working with Mark IV -- Mark and Jim and Andy and Bob were all terrific and all of the other guys were great too.

MARK IV Builders helped us with 2 projects: an elevator addition, kitchen, and powder room. Mark’s people were fantastic to work with. They were reliable and their whole focus was to make me happy. That, and they were clean! They cleaned up every single day and kept the mess to a minimum. We built an addition while we were living overseas in Asia. Mark IV was in touch practically daily and regularly provided update-photos of work-in-progress by Skype. Mark IV was diligent, patient, provided great suggestions and advice, had great attention to details and finished the project way ahead of time and within the allotted budget. We relocated back to a beautifully designed and constructed home with no problems to speak of whatsoever! He and his team were solely in charge. I did not even hire nor have a third party supervisor. All my closest friends thought I was crazy to do this project remotely while I was sipping tea in Asia! But they did not understand I had hired, " Mark IV Builders". His team is great and I had great rapport with all of them ( Mark, Andy, Jim) because they always put customers first and always work to accommodate the customers the best they can which is, from my experience "always been the best". Thank you Mark IV team!

MARK IV went out of their way to get what we wanted done, and they did it right. They moved the laundry to the upstairs which allowed us to redo our family room. They built a new octagon-shaped study off the family room, and they replaced the siding and shingles. Everyone on the team was great to work with. I would definitely use Mark again.

I have contracted Mark IV to do two separate renovations to my home. Both were completed on time and on budget and my wife and I are thrilled with the results. Mark has a great team of contractors and his management of the jobs is excellent. Whenever you are renovating an old house you run into things that you could not foresee, and there is always cost involved. Mark IV does a good job of communicating these unforeseen issues and pricing them fairly, and for me this is the hallmark of a great renovator. You can't go wrong with these guys, my recent project with them is on Houzz and is called "Kitchen Remodel and Wine Room - Olney, MD"

Mark IV added a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom addition over the garage of our house, expanded mudroom, renovated kitchen, and added an all-season sun room to the back of the house. The quality of workmanship was excellent and they performed the job very quickly.

From the initial consultation and design phase through the complete project and even more than a year later - the level of attention, ownership and pride from them was really terrific. And the quality of work is really top notch. The team has a really high level attention to detail. Super friendly team - they became part of the family over the several months they were building for us. If you want top notch quality, all the integrity in the world and really, genuinely caring people with whom to work on your building project - Mark and his team are the best.

Mark IV did a great job on our award winning addition and whole house renovation in 2012: The Garrett Park house with screen porch. The project expanded a very small house for my wife, me, and our son who was born a few days after the permit was issued. We were ready to shelf our addition plans after a very disappointing experience with a different design builder. With a baby on the way, we were concerned a construction process would be too much to handle, and thought we'd be best to postpone for a year or two. We are very happy we didn't. The difference between the first builder and Mark IV was night and day. Mark IV is not cheap, but they are fair and a great value as they get things done well and are upfront with what they see, what things may cost, pros and cons of different options, and they do not go looking for change orders after the contract is signed. They listen to what the homeowners want to do and help the homeowners realize their vision. Mark IV ran a very organized job and kept to their schedule, finishing the project in an impressively short time period. The house has been great to live in and many visitors have raved about the kitchen, the screen porch, the master suite, and the entryway.

Mark Scott and his crews transformed our 1948-era rambler into an award-winning masterpiece in a 6 month whole-house renovation. The job was finished within a week of the date that had been projected many months before, the workmanship was consistently of the highest quality, and the professionalism and helpful attitude of everyone from the on-site supervisor on down made for a very productive working relationship. Like any renovation, hidden conditions often required flexibility and creative solutions, as did changes by us as the project evolved. These changes were accomodated with cheerfulness, but also with honest feedback on feasibility, costs, and available alternatives.
