The front of this townhouse was boring and obscured by overgrown bushes. We replaced the siding and shutters, installed a new front door, etched and stained the boring concrete step, added a curving brick walkway, built a lattice shield to hide the trash can, redesigned the landscaping and added a river birch.

By adding a small retainging wall to the side of this home, and extending it to a sort of, front patio, a quaint, lush, front space is created.

Modern front yard and exterior transformation of this ranch eichler in the Oakland Hills. The house was clad with horizontal cedar siding and painting a deep gray blue color with white trim. The landscape is mostly drought tolerant covered in extra large black slate gravel. Stamped concrete steps lead up to an oversized black front door. A redwood wall with inlay lighting serves to elegantly divide the space and provide lighting for the path.

Garden arbor and picket fence separate the side yard from the front yard creating outdoor rooms. The view to the front yard frames a sitting area with Adirondack chairs.

This is an example of a mid-sized mid-century modern drought-tolerant and full sun front yard landscaping in Orange County.

This front-yard landscape design has two drought-tolerant beds with plants and gravel, a new lawn, a stucco garden wall and railing fence giving it a modern feel.

Karen transformed her front yard with 100% drought-tolerant landscaping, using water-wise plants and a wide variety of natural stone materials. Cobble, rubble, pebble, flagstone and crushed rock were combined to create a dry streambed that adds a fluid movement to the yard. A basalt fountain water feature was positioned near the entry.
Since Karen’s home is part of a Homeowner’s Association, speed was essential to the project. She hired Laura Eubanks of Design for Serenity to facilitate the quick turnaround, completing the project in just 5 days. Design for Serenity designed and installed the beautiful landscaping and succulent tapestries, while Karen herself selected the stone.
Karen thinks of landscape rock as a form of art, considering it to be one of the most important elements in her project. She spent several hours with Laura’s team selecting the perfect boulders and materials from our Fallbrook yard. Her hard work paid off: Karen’s guests and HOA neighbors all raved about the impact of natural stone in this total yard transformation.

This garden is only a year old! Thanks to quarterly applications of compost tea it is really thriving. Healthy soil makes for healthy plants and a lush look soon after planting. Bright orange kalanchoe 'Flap jacks' and aloe blossoms contrast with the subtle blues and greens from the surrounding foliage of dymondia ground cover and other succulents.

Fountain in front of bay window is welcoming focal point accented by boxwood cones. Golden acorus grass adds color and texture year round. Annual bed is planted in warm months with lantana which attracts butterflies & pollinators. Perennial black eyed susan adds extra color in late summer. Extra texture is added via autumn ferns hugging porch which is a shady spot. Photographer: Danna Cain, Home & Garden Design, Inc.
