My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.

Kitchen renovation - COMPLETE!

Whew, what an undertaking! This kitchen had not been updated since the house was built in 1994, except for a previous owner's attempt to antique the cabinets by slathering them with glaze. Rather than buying new doors and stripping and sanding, I ordered custom cabinets, which were surprisingly affordable. To stay within my budget, I repainted the island myself and love it.

The only appliance we replaced was the dishwasher. I knew I'd probably never update the kitchen again so I went with soapstone, which I have loved since I saw the first slab. In all, we spent around $9500 for new cabinets, new counters (including the butcherblock on the island), new dishwasher, new sink and faucet.

My favorite vein in the soapstone. Yes it's soft. Yes it can scratch. I decided to embrace the nicks and dings and not drive myself crazy about it.

Stainless apron front sink - Kraus 33" double bowl from Amazon. Love it! It came with bottom grids to prevent scratches. It's so deep you can put a pasta pot in the bottom and not see it!

This shows the painted island - Benjamin Moore's Rushing River, which is my new favorite color. Walls are BM Pale Avocado and cabinets are BM White Dove.

Before. Behold the horrid glazing, white laminate counters and plexiglas cabinet front. The kitchen was so filthy, I scraped dried mac&cheese off the ceiling. Just sayin.
