Each home is individually created for every project. James M. Hernandez, owner and principal designer of James Hernandez Design, has the distinct ability to create interiors with both modern and traditional elements that seamlessly transition into one cohesive vision. Based in South Pasadena, Mr. Hernandez has represented clients all over Los Angeles County as well as in Pasadena, Manhattan Beach, Hidden Hills Mr. Hernandez began his design career in 2000 as an apprentice at a design company based in Los Angeles. After completing a year length sabbatical traveling through Europe and residing in Barcelona, Spain. Mr. Hernandez returned to the United States to open his firm. Known for his high-end residential interiors, Mr. Hernandez provides creative consultation services for interior design, space planning, furniture design, paint colors, window treatments, and lighting. Mr. Hernandez also attends the European furniture market, Maison & Objet, in Paris, France gaining inspiration to incorporate into his design work. His interior work has been published in various print and web media. Most recently AD 2022 for Pasadena Showcase House, Vanity Fair, "I am Cait" Documentary series on "E", DailyMail.com, Realtor.com, The L.A. Times, Pasadena Magazine, Dreams Magazine, and Variety. He has also been featured on various television programs including, Kimora: Life In The Fab Lane with Kimora Lee Simmons and Better Homes and Great Estates on the HGTV, E!, and Lifetime channels. The most recent publication featuring his work was the July issue of Vanity Fair, "Call Me Caitlyn." Mr. Hernandez has also been a four-time participant in the prestigious Pasadena Showcase House of Design, the nation's largest Home and Garden tour. His work on the 2022 Showcase Home, the "Modern Sun Room " was recognized by Architectural Digest.

Working with James was such a great experience. He is talented and incredibly dedicated to his craft. Within minutes of seeing our home, he was able to give us a big picture design of how our 1930s home could transform without compromising its historical charm. He was able to masterfully develop plans and designs for us in each phase of our remodel. Best of all, James was proactive in ensuring materials arrived on time and was constantly coordinating with the contractors and vendors to ensure the work was done properly during each stage. James has another great quality which is that he fully listens to your thoughts and opinions and then develops his own creative designs around your tastes. For example in our downstairs bathroom, we wanted a yellow spanish tile design. Within a day, james had sent us an entire layout of tiles that created a beautiful flow throughout the bathroom, designs we never could have possibly put together or thought of on our own. We now receive compliments and “wows” on the tile work and design each time we have guests. Finally, and most importantly, James truly puts his heart and soul into his work. He’s not there to get things done and move on, he cared deeply about how the design fit in with our vision. He is full of life, energy, humor and is just an awesome human being. we loved getting to know him throughout the process. i would recommend james enthusiastically and without hesitation for anyone’s home remodel. At the end, your home will look amazing and you’ll have an absolute blast with James making it happen!

I am so happy I hired James to help with the design and construction of my outdoor space. It was very important for us to have a livable outdoor space to expand our family room. When my new door are open, you don't even see them and it gives the feel of such a vast and substantial living space - we could not be happier with the way it turned out. James took our brand new, totally bare high rise Wilshire condo from an empty shell to a beautiful, well planned and serene oasis. James was not only the designer, but also the project manager. He secured all our permits and did all the paper work needed to move the project forward. James' has exquisite taste but always was wary of our own design sense. He was never pushy and maintained a polite demeanor. James' subcontractors are very professional and the best in the business. Everyone he brought in did excellent work. James oversaw every detail as the work progressed. Best of all, James is a lot of fun. He is always happy and imparts that on those around him. He brings out the best in people. I have recommended him to others and they are as happy as my husband and I are with his work.
