Above everything, John is an honest man. I am single and was looking for someone I could trust; someone who would not take advantage of me. I found that in John. He took the time to explain options and brought the best skilled people to the job. The trim work and tile were beautiful and I've had so many compliments from friends who are skilled in those areas. Also after clearing the lot, John found that there were some serious drainage/water issues. He did not put a bandaid on it and continue on; he took the time to bring in some experts to figure out the best way to resolve so that I wouldn't have trouble down the road. I don't think most builders would have taken the time to stop the project and find a viable solution to protect me in the long-term. You won't go wrong with John. Not only will you find a good builder, but you will find a good friend.

John is the BEST!! He has built concrete and rebar homes for over 40 years … He exceeded all my expectations and built me an amazing house .. he worked well with all my vendors and coordinated all the aspects of building my ocean front home …I highly recommend him … we also contracted him to build our ocean walkovers and to fix a walkover that wasn’t wide enough .. John can handle any job!!

I met John Mooring at Shoreline Tile in Shallotte during the early stages of remodeling/renovating my home on the coast of North Carolina. I had bought my house while living in Georgia and started remodeling long distance with a fellow that turned out to be more of a “con man” than a “contractor”. I needed a quality crew to assist in the completion of the work. John took time out of his hectic schedule that afternoon, listened intently and then offered to help. A plan was put in motion after meeting with his foreman, Chris, that same afternoon. John is one of the most sincere and genuine people that I have had the pleasure of meeting. His professionalism and follow through on my project speaks volumes as to the type of builder/contractor that I hope to continue to work with throughout the years ahead.

After we took possession of our new dream home, we discovered several major problems that John Mooring has refused to address. Our ICF house ended up with a non impact resistant front door that never should have been installed in the hurricane resistant home we hired him to build. Then, to save money, John Mooring did not use the recommended landscaping company, so we now have a yard full of dead sod patches and tons of weeds. Both of these situations are going to cost us a lot of money. If you decide to use this builder, check everything he does along the way or end up like us with major expenses when he’s done.

My wife & I hired John to repair/replace water damaged front of our recently purchased house in Holden Beach NC. The lead carpenter - Chris did an excellent job, replaced front stairs, deck and hurricane rated windows. All work performed in a timely & professional manner and within budget. Good follow up after the job on install of awnings as well. We would highly recommend John to anyone considering either new construction or renovation work.

I would like to say my wife and I love our dream home John built for us.. John walked us through the process as if he were building the house for his friends. He sat down with my wife and I over lunch many afternoons before the construction was started to translate her ideas into construction materials. He was able to see her vision and put it in a drawing. This was important because we were not residents of NC. He was very patient and solved the many site issues that challenged the foundation. He worked around a hurricane that slowed the prep of the site and a second hurricane with tornadoes during mid phase of construction. John kept us informed during the process over the phone and with photos. It was our desire to construction a custom home for us and to make it special. I am 77 inches tall and my wife is 60 inches. We both wanted spaces where we spent time to be comfortable in our retirement years. John listened and understood, then successfully incorporated these things into the house. This included something special from Japan. His roof design enabled us to take maximum use of the solar unit installation. There was added detail and special touches all over that we forgot we asked about during our lunch meetings. The house is great with all the comforts desired. We Love home.

It is with gratitude and enthusiasm that I write this unsolicited letter of recommendation for John Mooring of Green Fortified Homes. When we first met John we had a house plan and wanted to build an ICF home, one that would withstand almost anything Mother Nature could throw at us. After a few hours of talking and discussing what our needs were, we came up with a new plan, one that was more cost effective and better fit our needs, and of course, our wants. Also, I must mention that first impressions really do matter. When we left his office, we knew we found our builder. Working with John through this entire process, he continued to be the ultimate professional. He always assured us that we were his top priority, this was evident every day no matter what problem surfaced. Mr. John always had a solution and a means of working through it. When we first began this project I don’t think my wife and I truly realized the enormity of designing and building a home. However, John handled our project magnificently and professionally at every turn. John is a home builder, he does not just build houses, there is a difference and working with him you will see the difference. He aspired to ensure our home would be safe, energy efficient, and sensitive to our needs. I would classify John more as a house scientists rather than a builder. His emphasis on safety and air flow was explained to us in great detail and why it is so important, and that most homes are not built with this in mind. We were also delighted with the enthusiasm, attention to detail and care brought to the job by him every day. You can tell he enjoys what he does. We have been living in our home for 6 years now and already experienced our first hurricane, Irene. I was truly amazed at the safe feeling we had and how quiet and calm it was in our new home, we didn’t even lose a shingle. To date, our most expensive electric bill has been $120.00, while our neighbors are averaging around $300, not too bad considering our home is over 3000 sqft!
