Our large powder room was in desperate need of a redo. I hired Liz Dowling to handle the project for me and told her that I wanted to keep the Jerusalem Gold stone floors, the white Toto toilet and the white Kohler pedestal sink. Window treatments, wall covering/color, light fixtures, mirror and faucets could all be changed. After showing us many wall covering options, we chose to add decorative moulding to the bottom half of the walls (which was painted BM White Dove) and paint the walls a gray/green. Liz suggested that we replace the window treatment with plantation shutters. We used updated, modern/transitional sconces and an oval mirror. Both my husband and I are thrilled with the reasonably redesigned result. Thank you Liz!

Interior design is not my forte. While I know what I like, I don't necessarily know how to go about making choices when it comes to decorating my home. Liz Dowling from The Wry Home was a godsend! We walked around my home while I pointed out areas that I didn't love, but didn't know where to start with making any changes. I was overwhelmed by how quickly she offered suggestions for small changes that made a big impact. Her sense of space and proportion helped me to completely rethink my common rooms. Immediately we were moving furniture around. She held my hand in terms of ordering new items to spruce up tired spaces. I was also struck by her bold use of color. Most of all, I felt listened to and understood. I would recommend Liz for all your decorating needs, whether they be small or large projects.

The Wry Home professional, Elizabeth Dowling, is doing a project in my CT home that includes a general makeover of the public rooms. she has a very good eye- can tell at a glance what furniture can be moved to a better spot and what colors will highlight a room. She is very efficient; does not waste time, and has good contacts to obtain materials and samples. She is very good at her" responsible redesign" suggesting recovering, painting and sprucing up old pieces of furniture rather than purchase everything new. She does an excellent job and I highly recommend her.

Project was to update the living room in a family beach home, using a cost-effective and timely strategy without changing or modifying the room too much. (It is a multi-generational home and we did not want to unsettle elderly relatives too much.) The room is "open plan" with a peaked ceiling whereby the walls and ceiling are constructed of 60-year-old, knotty pine, which is warm in tone but can look a bit drab. People with similar homes have "pickled" the wood, but this wasn't an option. Instead, we reupholstering the existing furniture in bright, durable fabrics and added accent pillows with fun fringes and piping. We pulled the whole thing together with a soft, natural jute rug with a bold fabric border. The rug is durable, inexpensive, adds texture, and is soft on bare feet. Furthermore, a large fireplace at one end of the room is red brick. Painting it white could be beautiful but wasn't an an option so instead a sizable, Audubon print of a blue heron was moved from a wall where it was barely noticed and hung over the fireplace where it softens the red brick and brings the blue tones in the new upholstery to that wall. Everyone loves the room, most importantly the people who have been in the house longest! Liz from The Wry Home had great resources for ordering fabrics and the rug. The upholstery work was done very quickly and was very reasonably priced. At every step, Liz had great ideas and just rolled with every limit placed on her making the whole thing completely fun (and guilt free!). A great outcome!

A few rooms in my house desperately needed to be updated. I did not want to start over, just wished to pull together what I already owned in a stylish and interesting way. I chose to work with Elizabeth Dowling as she has a contemporary sense of color and design that adds a fresh perspective to any space. Elizabeth can walk into a room and immediately see how to enhance the layout as well the overall feel with the most simple touches – rearranging furniture, adding a lumbar pillow that plays off complementary accent colors, reupholstering a slipper chair with a fabric in a modern pattern or merely updating lamps and other decorative elements.
Elizabeth’s level of professionalism as well expertise at executing a project are outstanding. She has a warm personality, is incredibly enthusiastic as well as fun to work with. She is on top of the latest decorating trends, has a very intuitive sense of color, works with quality vendors and can easily adhere to any set budget. I felt like she presented enough options that I could easily narrow them down to what suited my taste. In each of our rooms, she created an inviting, cozy and vibrant setting which makes our home that much more comfortable for my family and myself.

Deciding to celebrate 20 years in business by designing my office was easy. Deciding where to start wasn't. I looked at websites, magazines, other offices, etc. but I couldn't pull it together and had no idea where to begin. Thankfully, The Wry Home with Liz Dowling's creative and unique ability to redesign and repurpose existing pieces along with selecting new pieces was the perfect match for me. I love the colors, flow, new creative area and the ability to now have clients visit my office without the 'cringe' factor. I have already asked Liz to help with my next space.
