Horrible company. I asked them to give me a bid on a project, they told me it would be $1500 for the bid because it required some leg work. I paid $1500, like 2 months later they finally got me a bid and it was almost double what I had told them my budget was. When I said I wasn’t interested they sent me another bill for $6700. When I refused to pay it they took me to small claims court. I thought for sure I would win because they really hadn’t done anything except give me a bid. The judge at small claims was partners with their lawyer so we lost. They bragged about taking people to small claims in a letter they sent me. I highly advise you to look elsewhere for a company that will treat you honestly. Use these guys at your own risk I guess!!!

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. I cannot emphasize this enough. Long story short, we asked this company to give us an estimate of what it would cost to build a small mother in law home. Not only did they not give us a definitive answer regarding permitting with Draper city, but they took the liberty of drawing up plans which we NEVER asked for or approved. Months later, we received a bill for $6,600+. They did not bill us bi-monthly as stated in their contract or we would've asked them to stop. We simply wanted an estimate (which we paid $1,500 for). Their contract is full of holes and essentially gives them the liberty to charge whatever they want. They were dishonest and deceitful and I am disgusted that there are people out there willing to take advantage of honest working people.

Wow, Our Kitchen and Home remodel is amazing. Working with Topp Construction team was easy and we made it through the whole process without any issues. Brandon & John worked with us on the upfront planning and costs. Once we agreed on the plans, John led us through the construction process step by step. My wife was his main point of contact, he worked well with her. John even met her at several stores helping nail down decisions. All of Topp’s crews were friendly, conscientious and cleaned up after themselves. They gave us good advice on the work they came in to do. As of writing this review I’ve been working with Topp Construction for just over 6 months now, planning, prepping, and building a detached garage with an apartment above it. Having renovated 3 houses and worked with many contractors I’d grown to be pretty distrustful of the whole building industry in general. Topp Construction has restored my trust in building contractors again with how well they handled the project I contracted them to complete. They’ve been a pleasure to work with, their workmanship is excellent, and I’ve never presented them a problem they haven’t immediately corrected without pushing back. I highly recommend Topp Construction, and I’ve sent their contact information to as many friends and colleagues as I could. My project has turned out better than I expected, and I’m more than happy I took this project on with Branden (CEO), John (VP), and the rest of the Topp crew. If you need a quality builder to help you remodel or build in the Salt Lake valley Topp is a great choice. Topp gets high marks on 5 key considerations that I’m going to break out in more detail below: Quality, Reliability, Communication, Flexibility, and Value. Quality The quality of their work is excellent. I’ve been very happy with how things are turning out, and I haven’t had an issue of needing to call out the quality of the finished product. My garage feels amazing every time I step inside it, and the apartment we built above it feels head and shoulders above every other rental in the area. Part of this boils down to the materials I chose, but even the best materials poorly installed would have looked bad. Every person I’ve had in the garage and the apt has been impressed with the quality and workmanship on display, and I’ve heard, more than a couple times, “whatever you’re paying these guys, it’s worth it.” A big part of builder quality meeting homeowner expectations is to have clear expectations to begin with. I’m confident Topp can give you the level of quality you want; you just need to be clear on what you expect and what you’re willing to pay, and Topp will make that happen. Reliability Over the years I’ve become accustomed to contractor time, which roughly works out to me multiplying whatever amount of time they tell me by 7 days. I’m happy to report here that isn’t the case with Topp. While we haven’t made our deadline, the miss is largely due to change orders on my end (such as installing a new, 50’ x 25’ driveway) and some holdups with work I’d been performing. Some of the delays appear to have come from Topp’s subcontractors, but overall on a 6 month project I’d say the delays caused by top are less than 2 weeks, which in my book is pretty well right on time. I’ve also been pleasantly surprised by how little effort has been needed on my end to ensure commitments were kept. If Topp agreed to something it got done and didn’t really require any prodding on my end to ensure it happened.They said they’d do it and then they went and did it. For anyone with a normal adult life of work and family obligations that reliability and dependability is huge. Communication Communication has been generally very good with Topp. I’ve never gone more than a couple days without hearing back from Topp when I have reached out to them about something or other, and their responses have been clear and provided timelines along with good expectation setting. We haven’t had any arguments either about anything really. Everything has been professional and honest, and I’ve been consistently pleased working with these guys because I have trust they’ll respond to me. Flexibility Really high marks here for the guys at Topp. I’ve made a number of change requests, large ones, and Topp has managed to include them without pushing the timelines too far out. I’ve also not heard any complaining about changes and updates to the plan. I modeled my entire project out in CAD, rendered everything so I could see it ahead of time, and had a detailed financial plan covering how I wanted to proceed, and I still found things that I wanted changed and added during the project. Just the nature of large projects, and I put a lot of value on having a flexible partner who can help accomplish those changes. Value Topp was good about pushing me towards better materials while weighing my budget considerations. Unless you’re at a point where money isn’t a consideration in your life you’ll always be trying to maximize the quality of every dollar you spend, and Branden and John were both helpful in spelling out the tradeoffs of different materials and approaches and to call out where more money didn’t necessarily result in a better finished product. I did pay what I consider a lot of money for a total of about 1,300 sq. ft. half of which is finished garage space. However, I think that is more a function of the demand for builders in Utah than anything else, and given the smoothness of the project, and Topp’s ability to meet my change requests the money has been well spent and my vision has been realized. That’s worth a lot when you’re talking about your home and where you hope to spend the next several decades.

Brandon Overy and Topp Construction did my remodel and it is wonderful. We had to gut the house and re-install the electrical and plumbing. We added insulation and extended the square footage off the back. It's so beautiful and I love my space now. All the contractors were such talented artisans. I am completely thrilled with my remodeled home!

As a colleague, not a client, I've seen the inner workings of this company. I know how the owner, Branden does business, and how he treats people. He is as honest & fair as they come. He is a man of integrity, which has become more & more difficult to find in any industry these days. Topp Construction has been in business for over 20 years, and Branden knows what he's doing. He does quality work, hires good people, and always puts his customers needs first. If I ever need a contractor myself, I definitely know who to call. I would wholeheartedly recommend Topp Construction to anyone, for any build or remodeling work. Professional, experienced, high-quality work, and fair, it doesn't get better than that.

I would not hesitate to hire this contractor. He is the type that does work as if it were for himself. I have recommended him to my sister, who did hire him and was very happy with the work. (Basement finishing and remodel). I also recommended him to my mother (added on to porch). She too was very pleased with his work and professionalism. When anyone asks for a good and reliable contractor, this is where I recommend they go. I have seen his work. It is excellent. So is he. I speak from experience and thinking highly enough of him to recommend him to my own mother and family members. They were very happy I did.

Branden and his team did a complete remodel of our unfinished basement. He was professional, endlessly responsive, on time and budget. Weekly check ins in person, by phone or text. Easy problem solving when small issues arose (which they always do in construction). I am very busy and I really felt good stepping back and letting him work. The end result was exactly what we wanted.

I have been doing work for Branden for a few years and he is very Organized builder and says on schedule I would highly recommend using Topp Construction you wont be sorry

I was extremely pleased with the work that was performed by Topp Construction. Also it was easy to communicate with the contractor and his subcontractors. His statements were always detailed and complete.

Topp Construction has built or completely remodeled 3 homes for me. I find them to be honest and very capable. The work they did for me was of the highest quality. The homes, when completed are beautiful. When it came time for the mantle to be placed in one of the homes the installer remarked that he had never seen a home built so perfectly square. The subcontractors on each home did beautiful work. I found the President of the company to be a man of integrity. He answered phone calls and questions quickly and would come to the job site almost daily to check on progress. If there was a problem he was very responsive and the issue was solved quickly and fairly. Even after the project was finished Topp would come back and fix issues at their own expense if necessary. My neighbor used Topp and was so impressed with them and gave them such a high reccomendation that I hired them . I have also recommended them to others who have used them and been happy. I have another remodel project coming up and I will definitely use Topp Construction.
