Why is the shipping cost do ridiculously expensive?!?

I just tried to buy an item that was listed on google comparison as no tax and free shipping yet when I tried to check out, there was a shipping fee that was 50% of the cost of the item!

There seems to be a general theme with Houzz allowing gross overcharging for shipping. I had some recent dealings with them and have been trying to work it for a month or more. Highly dissatisfied and disappointed with my dealings with Houzz.

This site it NUTS tried to purchase items totaling about $89. and shipping was $99.

I wanted to order 2 glass door knobs on houzz. Cost were $14 each..$28. Shipping was $64!!! WTH! Obviously I did not order them.

Forgot to mention..ordered same items in a different finish that I'm returning to Lowes. I liked the set on houzz better. Shipping on Lowes site..$5.34. Would love an explanation on this one. And I don't live in Russia..in NC
