Can the sofa be centered on the wall? How about some game boards as decoration over the sofa?

Wondering if you have tried putting the sofa on the other wall..it's a bit shorter and may not look so lost. Leave the mirror and centre over sofa, but you will have to drop it down. Ensure the coffee table is running the length of the sofa, vs how you have it now and add a larger decorative item and some great large books. Place the chair almost where the piano is and add a table with a lamp between sofa and chair. Now you have a more conducive area for people to chat with each other. Move the piano to the large wall - maybe centered and the guitar close by. Really important to add a large piece of artwork on that wall or a group of pictures to fill the space. The candlesticks on your dining table are too large. Place one on each side of the buffet. I would take the patterned pillow off the chair and put on sofa. A plain pillow from the sofa may be a bit nicer or no pillow at all. It's hard when you get used to a room to imagine anything different and fresh eyes help. Good luck.

Hi ! I think you need some touchs of colours : its to beige...and the windows need more curtains, something like your chairs or à bright colour to punch. Put a small colored carpet to the guitar space, like the news curtains. Behind the buffet, i suggest you to cover the wall with empilled creams stones or olds brics. You can buy in synthetics materials. Add texture on this wall to enrich the design. Print your wall picture on sheet and draw on it my suggestions : you will be surprise !

Hi, firstly thank you all for taking the time, I really appreciate it. @Rina I love the way you put the frames. I'll try to find something like it. @rainymorning the sofa can be centered on the wall but when you come into the house the first thing you'd see is the side if the sofa and is not very welcoming. I thought on placing a console with a mirror to mock an entryway if that makes any sense. What do you mean by game boards? Like game board inspired art? I'll take a pic of the entry to show you.

@Reilly I used to have the sofa on the other wall but it's too crammed in there. I would have to move the piano. The coffee table is square and is huge. It may not work for the space. I do need to style it like you suggest. I can try that and report back. I also like your idea about the chair but if I move the piano it looks very odd because it's on the way of the entrance and the stairs and family room. Not sure that makes sense but I'll do a top view to help visualize it. Candlestick on dining table don't belong there I currently have nothing on this table. Pillows all got to go. If you have any suggestions they'll be appreciated. :)

It's hard to tell in the photos you've posted but it looks like everything might be positioned in the four corners of the room? I would move the piano to where it looks best - even on an angle taking up more room. This is the focal point in your room to me. Then I would reconfigure the games table and the sofa after this. If you could post a floor plan of the room it would enable us to make better recommendations. Hope this helps. Good luck from Montreal!

@sabforbes right on. Too beige. My whole house is too beige. I want to change the wall color. What pallet would you suggest. I don't like red at all otherwise I'm really open to suggestions :). As far as the windows I plan on remove all curtains and install shutters instead. As far as behind the buffet do you mind posting a picture to give me an idea?? Thanks again.

Your beautiful piano deserves to be the center of attention with breathing room on all sides. How about as Reilly mentioned, swapping with the sofa, then angle the piano out into the room a bit toward the stairway from the corner of the long wall with the mirror behind it (vertically), making the piano and reflection of the keyboard and musician the highlight of the room. Throw a piano scarf over the end to add a color highlight to the room and a same-color pillow, lamp or other small items on the other side of the room to connect. The sofa and chair (and their occupants) could have a nice conversation over near the window corner fronted by the low table and an interesting mix of music oriented pieces composed on the wall behind them. Drape the lonely bare window same as others, pulling it to one side or both sides to fill the corner space and perhaps another panel between the paired windows to connect all 3 as individuals in a group. If all doesn't work spatially, then try it where pieces are now, but cluster music in one corner and a seating/conversation area on the other side, with the piano angled into the room a bit and mirror hung vertically in harmony with the window shapes. Your furnishings and soft neutral color scheme all look rather sophisticated and yet comfortable.

Display a game board as art, as suggested above. This is dirty marbles, and would look better hanging up instead of leaning. I used it as a table top in the past. Consider Chinese checkers or even a collection of the small wooden, solitary games found on some restaurant tables. I'm sure they have a name, but it beats me.

In my suggestion of game boards I did not mean art depictions of, but rather actual game boards; Monopoly, Checkers, Parcheesi, etc. to be hung in a grouping on wall.

Hi bebela ! I fond 3 Houzz's photos to show you. You have a lots of stones models, many colors,... So, you can look for Wood planks too ! Keep the 2 lights to upgrate the texture of the wall.
Look for nuanced naturels colors like the photo 4 or an grey and brown one, if you keep some walls in light beige. Now, to choose a punch color, i suggest to you to match with à new cushion and curtains fabrics : that easier to start with an accessories. Cause you can try at home, take picture to look and imagine the new ambiance. If you are not sure, try another one and take time to adopt the new concept. For the blinds, i prefer choose a natural white or linen and add colored curtains (think to the outside house's matching colors...many peoples forget that). Also, an important point for me, the stores lights are not the same of your house, the colors can look differents. Before you buy stone or wood...maybe to borrow some samples ;-))

Bebela, if you don't use the game board idea, another suggestion is to frame vinyl record jackets. You might do a theme such as all one artist or music genre or mix it up. Target used to sell inexpensive frames for record jackets. I'm sure they are available somewhere. Very easy to do a grouping with them. They are perfect squares and look terrific.

The piano is on an exterior wall, not good for its health, and is blocking the light from the windows. I know it is a big job, but the piano needs to be where the sofa is. Move the sofa under the mirror, lowering the mirror to about 5" above the sofa back. If the mirror is wider than 75% of the sofa's with, then move it on the wall behind the piano, and you might hang it vertically, just making sure it isn't higher than the window frames. I think the stairs will make a handy spot for the guitar player to sit and play along. If you can match the armless accent chair with a second one and a small round accent table, place them in front of the windows where the piano was. Matching drapes all around would be great.

You don't have to move the piano. It is only unhealthy for a spinet or upright piano to be up against an exterior wall. If your piano is away from the wall, which it is, and your windows are well insulated then it should be fine. Since the piano doesn't work on the sofa wall, how about two chairs instead of the sofa? Two chairs with a table and lamp between would occupy more space, and still look good as people enter.

Since you said the sofa is the first thing you see when you enter the room, I think we just found another reason to move the piano to that wall - it is or should be the focal point in this room!
